Cool. I had all those games featured in this commercial. Pac-Man was sub-par though but I remember all the hype when it first came out. What a buzz kill.
This is from summer 1982. The one with "and now Defender" aired on September 18, 1982 (well the one posted to Youtube did, I'm sure that wasn't the only airing)
It is obviously a computer, it uses Microprocessors for pete's sake. What do you think it is? A toaster? An air compressor? You may not like this tech, but we had to crawl with computers before we could walk, run or fly with them. You realize of course that there were still people alive in the 1980's that never had electricity when they were children, right? I suppose you'll laugh at the invention of the wheel too.
@MrCorporalTunnel Wow, I was just laughing at the terminology that they used back then, of course I know that everything that computes something is a computer, that's why its called a computer. I never said I didn't like this tech, I honestly have no experience with it as I was born in 1991, years after this system was released, so I have no opinion on it. The fact about electricity is honestly still true. Yeah, the wheel is a funny invention it just spins and spins, it just has to be funny imo.
Well, maybe I got a little carried away. Sorry. Yeah, the marketing is hilarious in retrospect, but at the time this title for the system was effective. I think Atari was trying to coin the phrase with this approach. Kinda like 'TV' or 'DVD", only 'VCS.' Thanks and take care.

The pizza guy on the left towards the end of the commercial looks like the same kid in the Taco joint from the movie 'Toxic Avenger' No joke.
