  • GO BUCKS!

  • I was three weeks shy of my 12th birthday, and was dumbfounded at how LSU could have blown this game, especially given the way it had mauled Texas A&M and Tennessee in the first two weeks. Jim Hawthorne, LSU's radio announcer--still is--was freaking out. The Tigers' hangover lasted through next week's game at Florida and through 58 minutes of the Auburn game the week after that. LSU didn't pull out of its funk until it scored a touchdown in the final minute to beat Auburn 7-6.

  • This game was a Bob Brodhead special. Brodhead was LSU AD from 1982-86 and he demanded the Bayou Bengals strip the weaklings from the non-conferene schedule--except Tulane--and start playing major conference foes. He negotiated a home-and-home with the Buckeyes for 1987 in Baton Rouge and 1988 in Columbus. He also started a 10-year series with Texas A&M and sgined a five-game series with Florida State.

  • 2:20 Those high-top hair do's are making a come back - I'm seeing dudes in the NFL with them.

  • SEC wont claim this because they use the BCS as a crutch, but they will still claim 0-9, so technically they would be 1-2 had they not been stripped of the win in the BCS

  • I remember when I was 4 years old. I was playing outside and was scared to death when from inside I heard my Dad through the shut doors and windows screaming at the top of this lungs. My first Buckeye memory and I wasn't even watching the game: 5:39.

  • I thought the Buckeyes had never beat the SEC before that Arkansas game... this is clearly a win.

  • @RedArmada actually were 1-9 in bowl games against the SEC

  • @RedArmada ur mistaken my friend. ohio state is 8-11-1 against the SEC.. and the big ten is 109-83-16 vs sec teams with 10 more national titles. :)

  • I was at this game, sitting in B deck. A lot of people had left because they didn't think we had a chance to win. Because of all the empty seats, we had moved down probably 20-30 rows as a result. It was the loudest I had ever heard the stadium. I will never forget Bobby Olive, #8, making that diving grab.

  • @smallrails My father was one of those who left early. Poetic justice!

  • my dad played this game, on defense. #95, John Kacherski. Pause at 2:56, he's on the right.

  • @AppleHacks11 thats awesome dude

  • my dad played this game, on defense. #95, John Kacherski.

  • Fuck off gridiron bitch ass skater dick

  • this is the world's gayest sport

  • @gridironisgay not as gay as you though

  • You have to update the description of the video now that Tressel has beaten an SEC opponent and Ohio State finally has a long overdue bowl win vs the SEC.

  • This was before those morons started their $EC chant. GO BUCKS !

  • i miss the old uniforms

  • LSU was never the same after this loss they would not even win another bowl game until 1995 some 7 years later. One of the greatest moments in OSU football history. GO BUCKS!!!!

  • I really have to give it to John Coop. here. I couldn't stand that guy as a coach...he just couldn't pull out the big wins. But this time, he looked like a genius! Go Bucks!

  • Great seeing some names I haven't heard in ages like Carlos Snow, Greg Frey, Bobby Olive, Mike Sullivan etc. I remember watching this game and being worn out mentally!

  • I was nine years old and sitting in 17c for this game. The 'Shoe came unglued after Olive's catch in the end zone! Still one of my favorite afternoons spent in Ohio Stadium.

  • No, you don't have to "down it there" - a kickoff is a touchback as soon as the football lands in the end zone.

  • They cleared the field and got both teams back on just so the ref could wave his arm to start the clock and let the final 2 seconds run off??

    Kinda assinine, don't you think???

  • @BigSwitz98 EXTREMELY asinine. I swear, some people simply have NO common sense.

  • I was at this game and rushed the field at the end. With about four minutes to go....I think about 30 to 40 % of the OSU fans had left the stadium. I could see them from C-deck heading out of the stadium. By the last minute I had moved down to about 15 rows behind the OSU bench. Still one of the best games I ever watched (P.S. OSU finished only 4-6-1 that year)

  • Is that Ken Squire?

  • Guess we got revenge 20 years later vs. the freakin' Bucknuts.......I'll take the 2007 National Championship whipping!

  • @puttytat88 I would call it an ass whooping, but LSU was the better team without a doubt, now Florida beating OSU was an ass whooping but I still believe that OSU was the best team that SEASON and just come out very flat for one game, just so happens that the one game was the National Championship and that is unacceptable.

  • @MrHORSEtheMAN Ya that's what happens when u lose your playmaker on the first play of the game. As for the LSU season, I think its funny how everyone mocks OSU for losing that game, when in reality we were in a rebuilding phase for our program with a first year QB. Somehow it ends up we're "bad" because even on our down years we win 11 games, our conference and end up in the top 2. And that game was pretty close, we punch a few redzone chances in we could've won it.

  • @puttytat88 cleatly was not a whippin with a nine pt loss

  • ....and this was the last time any SEC ventured north to Ohio Stadium.

We have Tennessee (the only SEC team with balls to play a decent OOC opponent) in 2018/19 I believe, but come on. The SEC is just too afraid to travel north of the mason-dixon.

    GO BUCKS!

  • In fairness, Alabama has visits upcoming to both Penn State and Michigan State.

  • Reason is Nick Saban has balls! Look at the SEC non conference games the last two years. Not to mention there havent really been any great teams besides Florida and Alabama the last few years. SEC is way over rated!

  • @takeurlumps actually the last sec team came north and that was vanderbilt in 06 when they faced northwestern.

  • how stupid could LSU be... Passing?? lol

    run the clock out!! lol

    anyway, GO BUCKS

  • WOW.....you stuck on this. If I was an Ohio st fan I would forget about the 2006 National title game against the LSU Tigers to.

  • it was 2007, and that was a rebuilding year

  • "If I was an" lol. And we played LSU it was in 07

  • ourhonordefend said: Dog on John Cooper all you want, but he has more victories over an SEC school than Jim Tressel. In this classic, the Buckeyes, under first year head coach John Cooper, stage an impossible rally to best the #6 ranked undefeated LSU Tigers. Before that point, the Tigers had won 14 straight road games.

What got him fired was his 2-11-1 record against Michigan

  • ...one of, if not THE greatest heart surgeon in the world, Dr Debakey, and the founder of yahoo. Pretty good for a city of 72,000, and 180,000 people in its metro area. I would be willing to BET that lake charles ALONE has more cultural impact than the entire state of Ohio. You obviously do not understand what culture means. Again, its not about the people you produce, its about your impact on people outside of your society and your uniqueness and flavor of living.

  • Now go look at your rebuttal and look at the people I mentioned. These people didnt have an impact OUTSIDE of our society? I guess Yahoo is your claim to fame. Milan Ohio has a population of around 1600 where Edison was born. I guess you are certain that he had no influence on the outside world. Flavor of living? Go tell that to Norman Rockwell and his discription of Americana.

  • *yawn* this was how long ago? sorry i KAndun no mayuth, im just a dooomm southunuuhh, but heyyy? who won the last meeting? oyaaaah... dem derr ell ess yous.

sour fucking loosers rofl. suckeyes are a joke, win a big game sometime?

  • The Buckeyes have a winning record in BCS games. Thanks for asking.

  • not in the last what... 5 years? what?

  • The SEC is dominant because they don't have academic standards. Half of your players cant spell there name let alone graduate with any kind dignity. Let the NCAA crack down on this and you will lose half of your players. This is the south we are talking about. Why doesn't the SEC ever come up here to play? Every bowl game is in their backyard. Eliminate the derelicts you have and play on equal ground and you might have an argument.

  • Whatever helps you sleep at night... The SEC is dominate because of the prospects, yes, but not because of low academic standards given to them. It is a fact that African americans on average, produce more successful athletes in football than the average Caucasian in almost every position. Thats just the way it is. And it just so happens that the south east has the largest african american population in the entire country by an abundant margin. Your hasty generalization of the south is absurd.

  • So this has become racist? I said the South. WE all know your claim to fame is Jimmy Carter but come on. Anybody that is anybody in the south has migrated from the north. Again...why doesnt the SEC come up here to play? Get out of your backyard. oh...name one SEC school that has academic standards other than Vanderbilt or possibly Auburn?

  • Never said it was, your still grouping an entire region that comprises of 10 states... TEN, into one group, thats just utter stupidity. If its not stupid its down right ignorance. All o the major bowls are in regions that can attract a crowd... who the hell wants to visit the "north" in the middle of the winter? Here we go with trying to create prestige for your entire region by naming influential people. Jimmy Carter? I would personally disown him, but you know better than to use him as a label

  • Region that will attract a crowd? Big Ten has three of the five largest stadiums if not the top three and fill them every game. Believe me it will sell out. And for people wanting to come to the "north" yes if they are from the south they might want to experience what a white christmas is all about. Instead of a bowl game how about scheduling a game for the SEC to come up her in Nov. to play a regular season game?

  • Its not about stadium size, its about filling the stadium. While your point that people from the south would like to see a white christmas is a good point, because i myself would love to experience real snow, its not good enough of one obviously for the businesses who make the decisions as to where the bowls are located. You act as if the SEC controls it. Also, you must remember that the majority of sec OOC games are scheduled at the beginning of the year, so its very unlikely to go up in nov.

  • I know the SEC doesnt control it but as structered with the BCS , to prove the true national championship it needs to change. Long ago it was a reward for us to go south or west for winning the Big Ten and treated it like a vacation. Us midwestern boys would never dream of going to California or South or if we did it was once in a childhood. Now with airfare being so cheap its not so much of a challenge. So lets make it fair and bring one BCS game up here and yes it will fill.

  • Oh, and trust me, i want a playoff system just as bad as you. Its all about money and nothing about true results, and thats disgusting. Oh i believe yall go crazy for OSU, and trust me when i say the entire state of Louisiana is all LSU, you cant drive from one place to another without seeing atleast several vehicles decked out with LSU something, that or even houses decked out with lsu apparel. I wouldnt have a problem with say, the rose bowl alternating between cali and ohio or illinois.

  • I dont want a big playoff.. I just want it spread out. The Rose Bowl is a tradition and want to still play there as you in the Sugar Bowl. We just have to live with the traveling and still reward these kids with that trip. But as far as the other minor bowls spread it out. Let them play out the Bowls and and the top two from there play again in the BCS championship game. If they cant figure out the top two after the bowl games im lost. I am a traditionalist and want the best of both worlds.

  • Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Ohio, and Alabama are the top seven states in the country in production of football prospects. Five of these states feed into SEC football programs. This gives the SEC the lead in talent, having the greatest talent gives spark to attracting greater attention to football over other sports, having greater attention to football attracts heavy focus in spending more resources on top coaching and facilities, and so on. I'm sorry if you cant handle that?

  • Uh...sorry...its Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois. Any gains the south has had in talent has been due to the migration of northerners who have lost employment here and yes its bad. Dont think we are migrating to the swamps though.

  • 2006.

  • Ha Ha, Gary Bender seem somewhat confused & lost towards the end of this game. They are called timeouts Gary. And who said the Buckeyes can't beat the SEC.

  • How nice of LSU to heave an incomplete pass with 1:40 left and the Buckeyes out of timeouts. "Breakdown in communication," nothing, what was with that playcall??

  • Was that Herbstreit at 6:35?

  • are ohio st fans as bad as colorado fans?

  • r stars wars fans as bad at finding a girlfriend as you are trying to get attention. shut up faggot, kill yourself

  • "Dog on John Cooper all you want, but he has more victories over an SEC school than Jim Tressel"

The Buckeyes also havent played the SEC in the regular season since Tressel has been there. Cooper was winless too against the SEC in bowls.

  • Texas went to the "shoe"...what happened that game??

  • OSU went down to Austin and what happened?

What does OSU v. Texas have to do with this video?

  • come up in December and play SEC

  • LSU looked just as gay back then

  • HAHAHA......Did they looked gay when they beat that ass in the national championship........LMAO!!!!!

  • yeah, actually they did... all purple and yellow like a bunch of homos... LMAO!!!!!!!

  • HAHAHA......Somebody is a sorry loser!

  • LSU = Loser State University!

Go back to doing your Civil War Reactments you hillbilly redneck

  • Louisiana has more culture than ohio could ever hope for. How can a program with the mascot of a TYPE OF NUT put down anyone else, what a laughing stock!

  • HUH? Lets see...Eight Presidents, the man who invented the light bulb, the three greatest union generals in Grant, Sheridan, Sherman, the men who invented the airplane, the first man to orbit the earth, the first to walk on the moon and so many others. What do you have down there? Justin Wilson?

  • and Neil Armstrong

  • Ok, im pretty sure you cannot compare Ohio that has a population thats ten times greater over the history of its existence as a territory with Louisiana over the amount of influential people produced. Secondly, the people produced by a state has little to do with the culture of a state. Louisiana's culture > Ohio's, thats a fact. The GLOBAL cultural convention is being held in Louisiana this year, give me a break. And just to go along with you, my own city, lake charles, itself has produced...

  • Ohio became a state in 1803..the Louisiana Purchase was 1803. The majority of Ohians were Pennsylvania Dutch and later German immigrants and Louisiana was French. Dont go saying we dont have culture here. As far as the convention I am sure its to help the rebuilding effort due to Katrina in which we helped. Dont go ripping the people that has been helping you. Oh, the football hall of hame is here for a reason.

  • Im talking about average population over its existance, its much more complicated than that. Ofcorse you have culture, but nothing that comes close to what we have in louisiana. Louisiana doesnt have much to bragg about, culture and excellent sporting is about it. Im sure ohio has more as far as other things to brag about. And yes, the football hall of fame is in ohio, but i think the reason has more to do with the creation of football and the schools in the vicinity who were successful100yrsago

  • It has everything to do with the creation of football. You wouldnt even believe what it is like here in Columbus in the fall. We live OSU. Remember we dont have pro sports here except for the hockey team. You would get the same thing in Lincoln Nebraska. All I am saying if you want a true national champion which the BCS is trying to achieve spread it out. They say home field is worth three points so if thats the case we would have at LEAST two more national championships.

  • home field is worth 3 points, why? because of the crowd. In all bowls, the tickets are sold 50/50 between teams... so where it is has very little effect on the game. USC lost to texas in their backyard, Florida traveled further away to destroy ohio state in arizona, sure the superdome is close to baton rouge but i know damn straight that lsu's crowd didnt have an advantage over the rowdy osu crowd. So im sorry, im just not buying the argument of the bowls giving anyone an advantage.

  • But you are forgetting about travel. We are sleeping in strange cheap motel beds in a different environment and the home team is sleeping in their beds. We are sight seeing while the home team goes about their daily lives. Totally different experience and no about the 50/50 deal. I remember from every Rose Bowl game it was more like 70/30. We had our little section and they had the rest.

  • Home field worth 3 points..lol

  • Fact is, Ohio State simply doesn't lose to SEC schools in the regular season - 7-2-1. The SEC teams are sissies and don't travel across the country to play anybody. The bowl games against the Big Ten are in SEC country. Come up to the Shoe, you pansies!

  • This was the first Ohio State game I can remember watching as a kid.

  • Comment removed

  • I was at the game. Pretty awsome. Second largest crowd at the shoe at the time.

  • This was the year that LSU had that Earthquake Game vs Auburn!

I've been waiting a LONG time for somebody to upload this! Thank youuuu!

  • 4-6-1 that year but a huge, sweet win. What did Michigan have during its dark season? Nothing. LOL

  • But still not bad enough for an SEC road win. Always remember, SEC bowl games are home games.

  • WAS THIS COOPER'S GREATEST VICTORY? I'm thinking...YES!

  • No.

The Rose Bowl against Arizona State after the 1998 season.

  • Actually that was after the 1996 season.

  • Thanks for everything you post!

  • I mean November 10. oops

  • If Coop could have beat Michigan, he would have been one of the greats. Many hearts broke under his tenure, yet he could recruit and coach. Still can't get over Ron Zook. I'll never forget November 17 of 2007.

Great post again, and keep up the good work.

    GO BUCKS!

  • great video!

  • Notwithstanding the win, I still think Cooper hurt our program. I also remember the win against LSU the following year. Frankly, I'll take Tressel any day of the week.

  • Losing to Michigan was Cooper's only problem at Ohio State.

Cooper was an outstanding recruiter and fielded many top squads. But he always struggled to beat Michigan.

Ohio State coaches have to beat Michigan. Games vs. Michigan are MUST WINS.

If you're an Ohio State coach and you keep losing to Michigan, you're gone. It's that simple.

  • Is that Lee Corso doing color commentary?

  • It's Dick Vermeil and Gary Bender on the call.

  • Can you do some more '02 games, please? Penn State, Washington State, or Wisconsin would be great.
