I suppose you're not familiar with the word devout. In any religion there are multiple interpretations to the laws found in their respective books (for example, in judaism "thou shall not boil a calf in its mother's milk" is commonly interpreted to mean don't mix meat and dairy, but there are many more interpretaations). It is said that each word in the Torah has 1000 meanings. It is similar in islam, there are multilple interpretations to one law.
