If Pink Floyd would've kept their late 60's/early 70's sound and progressed on to the 90's and 00's, you'd probably wind up with something that sounds Radiohead-esque. Both excellent bands of their time(s,) and unlike many artists today, their sound has actually evolved. Most bands today churn the same shit out every year. Pink Floyd and Radiohead sound different with every album they make (made).
Songs with a lot of lyrics are nice but I also love songs like these. The kind of songs that are still creative and unique even without a lot of lyrics.
I very heavily disagree with this being the best album of the decade. Now, I am primarily a fan of metal, but I do tend to like music based on it's own merits and not the genre attached. It's not quite weird enough to be innovative in my opinion, and it's not quite well written enough to be amazing to me, in my opinion. If I go based solely on "rock albums", I'd vote "Deloused in the Camatorium" or any random album by Buckethead. That's my opinion though.
@Bassbait That said, I don't hate Kid A. I just don't think it's cracked up to be the album that people make it out to be. It's well written, but not enough for me to consider it as praise-worthy as other albums.
@wheniwasmike Fine, do whatever you want, listen to your terrible upper class garbage music and leave us pleebians alone. Now if you mind me, I'm gonna go get some Buddy Holly shades, cheap beer and hand rolled cigarettes.
@jenkinSL1 thom would never commit suicide, he's suuch a happy person. If you watch him in interviews he's always boppin around and smiling... kinda like an elf
Radiohead is the pink floyd of our generation. There very diffrent yet simular. I would disscribe the differance like this. Pink Floyd takes you to unexplored, dark, and mysterious, places, but with Floyd your not alone they travel with you, as to where radiohead takes you to the same places, but without the companionship. When I first heard Kid a I didnt know what the fuck was going on. It freaked me out, and I gave it to my friend. Then I had withdraws, and had to buy it again. Damn radiohead.
so i heard a magazine voted this best albumn of the decade. i think it is a very decent albumn with some original and interesting stuff on it, but not best of the decade.
@Simon0 it was rolling stone haha. idk man, musically i dont see any comparison in the 00's, to me, the relationship between what is heard and what is felt from this album is mindblowing. but im kinda a fan haha, so idk.
@esltr91 err not sure. this albumn in my oipnion is quite original. but i prefer both the bends and in rainbows, and probably ok computer to this albumn.. thats just looking at radiohead repertoire. by introducing other bands there would be a lot more possibilities. anyhow thats my opinion. it i squite subjective.
@esltr91 ok two possibles. Arcade Fire funeral. Elbow asleep in the back. in my opinion both those are much better than kid A. still probably not best of the decade though but i cant think of any others offhand.
Interesting to see the lyrics here 'Rats and children follow me out of their homes' as Radiohead described their later Hail to the thief album as having a Brothers Grimm theme to it (The Pied Piper of Hamelin?).
A lot of my non-Radiohead-listening friends say that the vocals in this song creep them out. I really don't understand it. It's just weird, and beautiful, and creative, and awesome and they don't get it I guess...
whenever i listen to this song i feel something i've can never feel with anything else im not lieing i dont know what this song does to me but i can only thank radiohead for allowing me to experience this. it's just simple beautiful
@MrMarijuanasmoke420 I slipped away I slipped on a little white lie We've got heads on sticks You've got ventriloquists We've got heads on sticks You've got ventriloquists Staring at the shadows at the edge of my bed Staring at the shadows at the edge of my bed Staring at the shadows at the edge of my bed Staring at the shadows at the edge of my bed Rats and children'll follow me out of town Rats and children follow me out of their homes Watch it
Cont.. I love Kid A, but then again, I like Scott Walker records like The Drift.
