  • This was the first very RPG I ever played, beat and enjoyed from beginning to end and my first formal introduction into the crazy world of Japanese Animation. I thought I was the only person on this green Earth that played and owned this game on Sega CD way back when. Thanks for the memories...

  • Wow. This brings back memories.

  • they need this on the PSN

  • I remember in the Making OF LUNAR CD (PlayStation) Ghaleon's voice actor recalls drinking a lot of milk to get those noises. XD

  • This game looks so outdated but, because the Japanese are masters of advertising, I can't help but want to play it.

  • At level 60 and above Alex is so OP he can easily beat Ghaleon alone with melee attacks while you have the rest of the party do nothing.

  • SOOO ILL

  • *labored breathing, coughs up blood* I'm not finished with you yet! You'll never... make it.. out of here alive... Dragon Boy. COWER IN FEAR... AS I DEMONSTRATE MY TRUE POWER! *yells, transforms into weird monster* BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA *deep, insane laughter followed by an unearthly howl*

  • okay... someone is on crack at the beginning... OMG IT'S GUYVER ZOANOID!

  • okay.. someone is on crack...

  • one of the most epic final bosses ever. such a beautiful and ritious game.

  • One of my favorite RPG's! I didn't like the PSX version as much. Probably because I was so attached to the original Sega CD version.

  • was that purple stuff blood in the Japanese version?

  • Man, I really wish there was some way I could play this game. As a huge fan of the PSX versions, I want to see the origins of that great game. I know there are probably huge differences and this vid shows one, as Ghaleon doesn't do that transformation in the remake.

  • this game is way better on playstation!!!

  • .... How could you kick Ghaleon's ass so quickly??? He's so damn hard to kill!! You must be some kind of god or something! =D

  • this is like the best 2d rpg ive ever played

  • @slaveknight Clearly never played Suikoden 2, there, skipper.

  • I don't think I could possibly play this game... I love oldschool rpgs, I don't much like the style so this is one I'll have to skip. Loved Grandia <3

  • hey Lunar fans its Andylong99 here i have great news for u all Lunar Silver star story has been Remade for the PSP its called Harmony of the silver star if u wish to know more send me a mail and ill tell u about it

  • They shuld make this or put this on the iPhone and itouch I'm trying to tell apple to du that jst like they did with the first final fantasy and the second hopefully they will listen

  • crisis core is much better and looks cooler. but this does look really cool I might get it a lot of you say its fun.

  • I remember at the part of the game right after the final battle that in order to reach Luna/Althena, you have to play the harp in order to soften the lightning attacks.

Why they took this out in the remake is beyond me..

  • @pookieizzy7 HOLY CRAP, I never knew that! If I recall correctly, I just stocked up on a shit-ton of Althena Herbs and soldiered my way up there.

  • @Phandral Yeah, I actually did an LP of this and its sequel last year and you get an instant Game Over if you don't heal.

  • Epic theme btw ^^

  • this was prolly my favorite turn based RPG ever

  • Ah this does brings back memories..

  • what is this SCD stands for?/

anyway i didnt know galeon has another form like this OMG

i was like hell if ikeep seing galeon turn to this i will never admire him anymore ahhaa!

  • Sega CD

  • @darkariser07 SCD = SegaCD?

  • level?

  • time to die ghaleon is more ugly here in sega cd version but is more hard on psx version both are awesome

  • Tuesday january 12th this game comes out for PSP in 2010

  • ok question where do i get this game from game crazy doesnt have it so where can i buy it at cause my birthday is a week and a half away and im dyin to get it for psp so if someone can send me a reply that would be great

  • how come this wasnt in the ps1 version

  • The PS1 version changes some of the events.

  • @Terestrasz yeah and i like the part where galeon didnt turn oout some kind of ALIEN hahah!

  • One of my favorite RPG's ever. Always will be. Great Job AR.

  • I can see why the battle that came out of nowhere was cut for the remakes, but couldn't they leave the music? The one they used wasn't even exclusive to the final battle.

  • The music isn't exclusive for this battle. Although it is exclusive to the last few battles. Xenobia, Ghaleon 1 and 2.

  • its also in the battle vs the skeleton of the black dragon as well.

  • Wow, they didn't even bother to try syncing the cutscenes like the did in Eternal Blue? It's a good thing they learned from that. She's talking with her mouth closed! XD

  • It's just out of sync here. Playing it on the actual Sega CD was synced for me, as well as with my emulator on xbox.

  • Ooooooooh. I played Eternal Blue but not Silver star. (cousin didn't own it)

  • Ghaleon gains a demon form in the original nice XD

  • Ghaleon's 'you'll never make it out of here alive, dragon BOY' line still gives me chills.

  • Wow. I didn't use Calm Defender at all... I struggled with this battle, and hammered him constantly with Athena's Light and other Dragon Master spells. You make this battle look too easy :)

  • This is one of my favorite end boss fights. Totally epic music and scenery!

  • definitely like the sega cd version best

  • i would prefer for ghaleon to hav looked like this on ps1 version. he doesnt look threatning at all when hes not the magic emperor. his last form here+final battle song from ps1 version=awesome.

  • This final battle was too easy in Sega CD, even when I was 9. I'm so glad they made the final battle better and actually harder.

    Lunar, best rpg ever.

  • wonder why they changed ghaleon so much between the other versions and this, he makes a good devil impersonator imo, though I'm not sure what their intention really was.

  • Ghalleon was never really evil, but was rather misguided to think he would benefit Lunar. In lunar 2, he ends up helping Hiro.

  • thats what I thought about him as well and he showed that in Lunar 2 with helping Hiro and co. against Zophar. he just thought that he was helping the world in the first one but he was doing it the wrong way. imo Zophar is more like the devil of Lunar lol

  • If you really want to get into it he was only really trying to better the world.

The way he saw it when Dyne gave his life to transform Althena into a human Ghaleon believe that without a god to lead them the humans and Vile alike would be unable to continue with their lives.

So in a fit of sadness and courage he decided that if Althena couldn't guide them and Dyne was dead he would do it.

  • Dyne wished that the human race would be able to take care of itself without a goddess, which proved to be totally possible based alone on the human will and spirit. Therefore, Althena wasn't really necessary in that time period the game took place in. Hinting at a God/Goddess wasn't necessary to save humanity.

  • Yeah. But then Ghaleon, who was so convinced that a god/goddess was needed for human survival, grew into a depression at the lose of his dear friend. He blamed the goddess for not being able to control the fates and scorned her as an enemy claiming that he could do a better job of ruling.

What it comes down to is that Ghaleon was never essentially evil, only extremely misguided.

  • You can say that, but he's still undeniably cruel and ruthless. In the ending he boasts about taking pride in the fact that Luna is Althena again, but also that he feels he's torn her away from Alex.

  • I agree with you; but even though Ghaleon was very misguided rather than being evil, he took things to the next level: Killed the dragons, kidnapped singers, etc... He just crossed the line there.

  • @Artificialraven :D the human heart and love would prevail. and it did. >_>

  • Ghaleon just doesn't stay down. You beat him once he just badly hurt (considering how he acts) but not dead. You beat him and he returns in the squeal, in which he mops the floor with you the first time you fight him just like in this game.

  • No kidding, he was even lying in his own blood after the first fight.

  • He's a stubborn villain.

  • Indeed

  • I Told You He Had 2 Forms

    1 HP4500

    2 HP6000

  • Doesn't he only have one in the PS remake?

  • one what

  • Only one form.

  • Well there's the Magic Emperor illusion then the real Ghaleon who kicks your ass once and then you get to kill him.

  • i played and beat lunar dragon song i think it is for the ds its nothing like this game

  • After watching your Vay final battle video I knew you will do Lunar: Silver Star final battle sooner or later. Two great RPG's for the Sega CD. Plus you gotta love that cutscene before the final battle.

  • oh yeah, I'm lovin it, it's awesome. I got the end battle and ending to the SCD version of Lunar 2 but I probably won't be able to upload that until next weekend. I'm screwed as far as free time goes until then.

  • Yup, and in eternal blue for thoose who didn't

notice THAT is why the skin around Ghaleons left Eye is all weird and scaly

  • Ghaleon is...SATAN?! Man they shoulda kept that in the ps1 version, its more bad ass. Man, his voice kicks ass. XD

  • @bohemianjoe Technically Zophar is, but that is another story...

  • Sega CD has excellent games and this is one!

Awesome battle, perfect graphics and sound!

    99999/5 stars!!!

  • hehe thanks SJ, glad you liked the vid :D

  • wow i'm surpised that so much was changed from the sega cd on to the ps1 version.

  • Soooo...Is it just me or does anyone else agree that SCD cutscenes should NOT have existed. lol They are so awkward and weird.

  • Yeah I dunno. Technically it could be considered a rough draft for the PS1 version. If you've watched the "Making of Lunar" feature for the PS1 version, you'd understand that the SCD didn't quite have the technology needed to realize the creators' vision of the complete game.

  • I'm not saying you personally didn't know it, but in that video, it's noted as fact.

  • Oh... No I didn't know that. I guess there's a reason behind everything. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

  • You're welcome. I used to have Lunar and Lunar 2 for the PS1 but I sold them a long time ago, I would've kept them if I known how much they sold for for nowadays lol. It ain't cheap.

  • Ouch that really sucks =/ I totally know what you mean about some of these old games, though. My friend is an avid collector for games such as those and constantly tells me about the deal he got or how expensive things are nowadays... Anyway, keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your vids ;)

  • When this game came out, it was thrilling just to hear real voices in a game.

  • lmao...Ya I think I jumped the gun on saying it was crap. I continually forget how old the thing was back then.

  • it was 1 of the first games that had voices in back then.

  • @WatchMaster23 Please remember that this game was released in 1992 when the biggest competition at the time was the SNES. This was revolutionary in my eyes back then, with the closest thing to it being the voiceless and static Ninja Gaiden cutscenes on NES.
