  • @sinjin480 you made my point 4 me sinjin / this is what these fools do/ play other peoples music/ as 4 the pogues Shane Macgowan is the best song writer in the world and noo the band is not ROCK / its what ever you think it is / alan doyle is a joke when it comes to song writing

  • @redwingchief Excuse me for the newfie comment. I thought I was making a compliment. I'll study more about the canadian history. But I sure enjoy the GBS music. best regards

  • bring the great CHIEFTAINS to nfld

  • It cheers up the day. Go Irish folks, go! Newfie, me? With all that energy, I wish I could be one. For me it's a praise. I was born by he sea. Salvador , Brazil. And also Napoli, Italy. God bless all seas.

  • @olivierigiovani

Please do not call us Newfies, I take that as a serious offence.

  • I WISH THE CHIEFTAINS WOULD TOUR THE USA IN 2012

  • I wish GBS would tour USA in 2012!

  • the Chieftains are great musicians with tonnes of original stuff / gbs not so much

  • GBS & the Chieftains are the friendliest people i have met.

  • actually LUKEYS BOAT was painted blue not green

  • Both GBS and the Chieftains are great friends with GBS and I hanged out with Paddy Maloney, Matt Molloy, and Sean Keane of the Chieftains, As a matter of fact i had a pint with them all, They're all very nice people.

  • i cant believe that anyone could troll GBS so much

im talking about redwingchief and mrmegalitthh

  • alan doyle is a douche bag / a clown that can't write anything original

  • I can watch this video every single day....and it never ceases to make me smile!*S*

  • @theEyes629 / hahahahah / you fool / traditional songs have been around 4 hundreds of years. / they don't need GROVER from the muppets to keep them alive. / YOU EVER hear of a GREAT band CALLED // THE POGUES ? // THEY are the Band that REVIVED irish/ TRAD music ...... / not alan doyle

  • @redwingchief

I would like to say that this is not Irish music, the song is traditional to Newfoundland (it appeared in the Dominion Brewers Newfoundland Song book, 1978 (or there abouts)) And also that the Pogues are more of a rock band then traditional.

  • haha red you tell em / alan the douch bag hahaha

  • @onehappyautumn your a fool and an idiot. alan doyle is a moron. I have nothing against you if your gay. / means nothing to me . / i'm talking music and nothing more. / when they write a good song to justify all there braging i'll take it back. // but you and me know that will never happen hahaha

  • @redwingchief - You are so funny you make me laugh! If you offered legitimate musical criticism I would actually have believed you didn't like the band. However, all you manage is name-calling - like a bully would do. Which leads me to believe that you are either extremely jealous of Alan Doyle or you'd like to be with him. It's okay to be jealous (or gay). Just learn to deal with your inner hatred instead of displacing it onto Alan Doyle. You can start with self-acceptance. Good luck!

  • gbs suck / cover band douches

  • @redwingchief

lol, what do they cover? Sure, they do a lot of traditional songs, but they do them damn well and I can guarantee that GBS has exposed them to 10 times the audience they otherwise wouldd have been exposed to.

  • @TheEyes629

They modernize them. That is how they expose them to 10 times the audience. I won't dispute that they are good musicians, but I wouldn't call them a traditional band (which you did not, I know, but the implication was there), the modernization is not something that I particularly agree with, but what odds.

Yes I know this has very little to do with what you wrote, I apologize but I think that this should be said any ways.

  • Feck yeah!

  • alan doyle is a douche bag ,the very example of a douche, not an original thought in his head

  • @redwingchief You don't like the song, then don't watch the video, simple as that, and your the one who's a douche bag.

  • Dance lads Dance

  • this song makes me want to drink and sing loud even if im to drunk for anyone to understand

  • Way too much fun, this song is.

  • Great Big Sea are good friends of mine. I met Matt Molloy and Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains. Great Bunch of people

  • @Superbanshee666 u talk about ass licking a lot. Is thst ur favorite past time or what? Chill ur tits dude

  • GReat big sea ROCKS!!! I will always remember seeing thing in Concert at on canada Day in Sudbury. That was the best DAY EVER THEY ROCK SOOO HARD. how can you not smile with this music

  • GBS and the CT's are two great bands. Matt Molloy plays the flute very well and Paddy Maloney is a tin whistle master.

  • Alan Doyle...yummy!! ♥..

  • @matthewosmond1984 alan doyle and original songs hahaha that doesn't sound right. // what has russell crowe written ? / he's a 2 bit actor from ozzy . FUCK YOU you stupid MUPPET / alan doyle is a useless singer who couldn't write a good song to save his life / he's an embarrisment to nfld / an ass licker

  • @superbanshee666 I agree with you when you said that the Chieftains are a great band, your right.

  • the Chieftians are a great band but great big sea SUCK. / alan doyle is the cheesiest useless singer ever. / what has he written as a song writer ? / not much worth mentioning / all gbs does is play other peoples songs because they can't write anything good themselves .

  • @superbanshee666 Listen here you piece of chicken shit. Alan Doyle and Russell Crowe has released a songbook of songs they both have written themselves so Shut the Fuck up.

  • Paddy Maloney is a true master of the tin whistle

  • Hey super shithead don't like it don't listen to it and get the hell out

  • @doretoredgoblen Exactly my point. If they don't like this great music by these two great bands then they can shut the fuck up and they can get the hell out of here.

  • Love this tune..when my son was just a little guy, he thought the name of the band was the "Ahh Me Boys"... ;D

  • great big sea are boring with no song writers in the band./ all they do is play other peoples songs and say // we're nfld ambassadors / no your not . / your cheese heads who can't write anything original

  • @superbanshee666 You watch your mouth Motherfucker, your a fuckin jackass, and keep your moth shut and listen to the best type of music on earth.

  • Are Great Big Sea playing the song At Murphy's Pub In Dublin?

  • great big sea are crap / cheese beyond the beyonds as FRANK MCCOURT would say/ ALAN DOYLE is an ass licker ever ever there was one / bob hawlett is tone deaf / 3 stOOGES

  • @superbanshee666 YOU SHUT THE HELL UP Great Big Sea are the best Newfie group in the world, I don't see you making as much money as they do. I happen to be a Newfie and My Wife and I are good friends with them so keep your opinions to yourself DAMMIT.

  • Is it just Me, or is the snare drum (and the drum kit in general) more defined in this version than the actual one on the album? Where can I find this one because I prefer it a lot.

  • This is the best version of the song I've heard, better than any other version by Great Big Sea. The two groups work well together and make great music.

  • I'm a newfie and i'm damn proud to be one

  • Who is the old man in the video?????

  • Luckey you freaking idiot

  • @ATeamsHannibal I know but is it his real name or was he just lukey in the video

  • What is it called i cant find it any where

  • @ATeamsHannibal "Lukey/Lukaloney" from The Chieftains' album, Fire in the Kitchen.

  • friends... beer... campfire... if this song plays and you don't sing along, you don't have a mouth...

  • I love the instrumentation.

  • Yes bi

  • I was just introduced to these guys a few days ago. I can't believe i've never heard of them, they're amazing! ♥

  • @jackdavenportsbaby11 They are really good. You should see their live shows on dvd.

  • @SweetChuck008 I usually don't like watching live performances cuz of the audience noise, but I've seen all of these guys' videos on youtube, including the live shows from the dvd and the audience adds to their energy.

  • Aw you Newfies.. There ain't not'ing in the world wrong with yas :)

  • Great big sea is incredibly uplifting, glad to be canadian at times like these

  • Ahhhhaaaaa What a great song...

  • like # 956, why the hell did it take me so long?

  • best video ever

  • 18 people derseve one split in a ten pound tub ... a-ha me boys ...

  • How the fuck can 18 people dislike this? This song just negated my whole crappy day in three and a half minutes.

  • @DanPat121 because those 18 people are retards

  • @DanPat121 As far as I know, there are some people with irrational beliefs about opinions, namely that theirs should be the only ones, and so they go around doing stupid stuff like disliking music just because of the kind of music that it is, and trolling.

    They're wrong. We're right. Right?

    Right.

  • @DanPat121

    Amen brother

  • @DanPat121 I was just wondering the same thing, how can anyone dislike this

  • @DanPat121

    Well put :)

  • i was born in western newfoundland, close to cornerbrook. and sinjin480 was right about the variations. theres quite a few.

  • I love GBS & Alan's voice & this song. It just makes me smile

  • Newfoundland english/ accent is really a mix of English, Scottish and Irish, though really favoring Irish. But really no particular accent can be called THE Newfoundland accent, as just about every mile along the shore has a variation of it (mainly dpending on what groups settled in that area most). St. Johns accent is quite often called The Newfoundland accent, but is easily confused with the Irish accent. Yeah, I'm just ramblin' on now

  • @sinjin480 ahhhh it irish

  • @sinjin480 Also first nations and french.

  • @sinjin480 You're exactly right, i'm a newfoundlander and there is no such accent called the newfoundland accent, it's a mixture.

  • They sound scottish.

  • @marcomorphs no they don't

  • @marcomorphs They are from Newfoundland. Totally different dialect all together. sounds closer to Irish.

  • @marcomorphs They are from Newfoundland Which has a totally different dialect of its own. Mostly sounding Irish to me although they say its a mix of southeastern Irish and Western English.

  • One More!

  • Kraków czeka cały czas

    :)

  • cape breton here bi

  • hahahah yes b'y

Thats a dead give away right there...lol

The Rock is proud of ya GBS keep doin us proud

  • This video has GOT to make you smile...inside and out!!

  • Having lived on both the west and the east coast, there is nothing that beats the friendly, down-home celtic-style music of the Canadian Atlantic provinces! I lived in Newfoundland as a child, and now I'm in Nova Scotia. The music from the Maritimes can't be compared! I love our way of life!!!

  • @Strive2Be123 Amen to that!

  • Why don't somebody help Lukey push his damn boat! Lord Thunderin!

  • Fuck the people that dislike this!!! AHHHHAAAAA mee boys

  • this is my favorite song by em

  • Whose boat is better? Lukey's or Giddeon's?

  • @PKM113 Gideon Brown's Like no other!!

  • @jahzcat But Lukey's is the prettiest you've ever seen!

  • i love newfoundland

  • The version on the Fire In The Kitchen album is different though, the video one is the best.

  • This version appears on The Chieftains CD Fire in the Kitchen, released 1998

  • This is why Great Big Sea has been around for close to 20 years.

Add the Chieftains and what a great version to this song.

  • the fast "vertion"?

  • which album was this on?

  • @rhymebomb: This is on the Album called "Fire in the Kitchen." Hope that helps

  • @rhymebomb It's from "Up". Bought it right there in St. Johns back in '98; back then, no-one could buy this CD in Europe since it was on Warner America. Got a few extra for family and friends. ;-)

  • @rustinpieces haha i have Up, along with every other GBS album. it's this version with the Chieftans that i wanted. thanks IrishRage3316

  • just saw them in roseberg oregon and will have to say im addicted

  • is there anywhere i can get a good quality audio file of this exact version???

  • I live in Toronto and I have to say I have never met a newfie I disliked. I'm glad their little island is in my Country.

  • @LoOoNaT1C We are lucky, almost all of my good friends are newfs..two of my newf friends built my deck for me..took two week-ends and would not take a penny. they will drink free at my place for a long time. lol

  • @03kenseth lol thats the exact same thing our newfie friends did!

  • @ALX753 it may have been cheaper to pay them...24's and rum don't last long when they are here. lol

  • that

  • this song is sooooo awesome!!!

  • didn't know they boys did a video with the chieftains. brilliant two of my favorate bands together.

  • I got to see these lads in concert. The place was really rockin' and the dance floor was springy so it was that much more fun. this is my favorite song they do.

  • @Sheldon66 same here, my oldest boys name is lucas but all of his uncles call him lukey, he likes it too. now i am calling him lukey as well.

  • they're not perfect, they're Canadian.

  • The Newfoundlanders......their island just happens to be in Canada!

  • such a good song

  • i have a neon green car that has lukey boat on the side of it with a ancor on one side the hood says ships and dips inspired by these b'ys and there song

  • For Gerry and for Paul

  • What is best about this video is they all later admitted that they were visiting the bar for drinks between takes and they said they were all a little bit drunk...and they had a great time making the video.

  • God bless ya bunch of keel haulin' seal clubbin' drunkin' Irish bastards!!!

rousin' good tune and while we're at at screw greenpeace!!

  • lol, he takes it to go to the pub, yet hes walking the whole way, so it doesn't make him go any faster, in fact, it makes him go slower

  • has anyone bin to Botwood or Northern Arm?

  • Alan's going to be in the upcoming Robin Hood movie! Can't wait~~~

  • MacKeel is AWESOME!

  • If you like GBS, you might like the almost forgotten likes of Mackeel!!!

  • Shant I ever get lukey on Maine's Land

  • im a newfie

  • Im just a northern California gal, but I LOVE this song! its got a catchy tempo & chorus, and the sheer JOY of the song carries it well beyond the campy lyrics. I also LOVE the Chieftains, and am so thrilled that I was exposed to so much great talent because of their willingness to perform with other acts. I have several of the Chieftains' collaborations (Long Journey Home, Long Black Veil, and Fire in the Kitchen). I recently saw a wonderful cover of Redemption song by Ziggy & Chieftains!

  • irishgrl you are one smart cookie, this version of lukeys boat rocks. Alan Doyle of GBS has a unique but very strong voice. These guys are Irish desendants as well .Speaking of irish decendants there is also a band you can check out called "The irish Decendands"...they are an amazing band. take care

  • @03kenseth there are other bands too Like Ryan's Fancy and Evans & Dohrerty... i think is spelt it wrong but Have an awesome St patrick's day:)

  • @03kenseth Don'forget the Fables.

  • you need to go to George st put that on your list of things to do before ya die

  • This is a folk song from the Maritime Provences. If you like this one you will also like a lot of Stan Rogers' stuff. I particularly like his originals like Barretts Privateers, Athens Queen, Mary Ellen Carter, Harris and the Mare, etc.... Cheers

  • Ah, Stan Rogers... The writer of Canada's Other National Anthem. Just have a listen to "Northwest Passage" and see if you don't think so.

  • what year was this video filmed?

  • @AerosmithAngel31 I would say around 1998 since that is when the album with this song came out.

  • thank you!

  • Best video from GBS...

    Derek Harrington

  • pure class

seen them in london,,next time in canada when immigration pull their finger out and let me emigrate

  • NEWFOUNDLAND ROCKS YEAH!!!!

  • God Alan Dole just does it for me. Seen the boys 3x in concert and was once close enough to see the colour of his socks. Some chick with a cigarett in a tube top almost poked my eye out though and I had to grab her hand so it (cigarette) didn't burn my eye. I thnk Alan caught the action and gave a bad look like I was bugging the barbie doll looking girl. Broke my heart really.

  • @CORYARTART Maybe he was angry that the girl didn't see she almost blinded you! Have hope.

  • Yes. How else would he get to the pub?!

  • I've loved GBS's version since it came out, but my 4 month old boy has just discovered it and LOVES it. I miss home in Newfoundland, Ys by' I do.

  • I love this song. This band is amazing. I love the spirit of maritime Canada. *swoon*
