The band director at my school is from Green Bay. I love hearing her accent! It's so freaking amusing! And I love teasing her when she says "draygin'" in place of "dragging" and "bayg" instead of "bag." XD Here is my database so far: dragging = draygin', bag = bayg, flag = flayg, root = ruht, roof = ruhf, measure = mayshure, swag = swayg, water fountain = bubbler, traffic lights = stop'n'go lights (of stop lights), Northern U.S. = up nort', A = eh ("Let's tune to a concert EH"). XD
When I saw the first video I was thinking "...you don't have an accent at all." but then you said you lived by Milwaukee...I live in Wauwatosa so that pretty much explains why I heard no accent.
i AM SO LONG i AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT GOES THROUGH PEOPLE THINKING MY WISCONSIN ACCENT IS FUNNY! The odd thing is I just moved to Illinois and people comment on it all the time..its sooo annooying!
i AM SO LONG i AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT GOES THROUGH PEOPLE THINKING MY WISCONSIN ACCENT IS FUNNY! The odd thing is I just moved to Illinois and people comment on it all the time..its sooo annooying!
I think it's funny how people from other states pronounce Wisconsin. They say it so elegantly like, "Wis-Consen." and I'm just over here like "...Wisconsin."
For what it's worth, I grew up after the age of 2 around Madison- the only obvious accent you put on anything is on a few words- such as about sounding like a-boat and oohver for "oh-ver". But the irony here is that I've been told that I sound quasi-british by some, and then today some twit in Nebraska tried to tell me I said "aboot"...like hell! I said "aBOUT" really fast and his hick self got confused I guess lol
Im from Wisconsin but spent most of my live in Tennesse.. I dont see your accent as being anything but typical mid-western. Im sure it sounds weird to a hillybilly, but c'est la vie.
; I'm from Fond du Lac. I agree we don't have it. We drink too much to have an accent. ;) bahahaha. ps. i disagree, i think you are as cute as your first video.
superior has a different accent then like milwaukee because were almost in minnesota nd stuff so yea wisconsinites have a unique accent aapparently to ppl
im from superior and do we really have an accent? look at us SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS! WOOT WOOT! yeaaa that was like 6 months ago but lik were still coool....
@TheTellytubbie101 Look at us?? I dont remember seeing you make any great plays. Look at "them" as in professional athletes who come to the state you live in to play a sport you like, would have made more sense.
@MrEmersonChris Um who cares? u dont even no who i am so mayb i hav made great plays u dont no anythin about me AND im saying us becuase were greenbay packers everyone says us obveioulsy ur not a sports person if u dont no how to talk
Wisconsin is awesome! Ppl know were I'm from when I speak to them lol an I go how do you know? I can't tell you have an accent probably cause I'm from milwakee lol
I'm from the south (Georgia, to be exact). And I'm constantly being told that I have a "funny litttle acceeeent." I have never been out of the south. I have been asked several times if I am from wisconsin, although some people have asked if I am from chicago. I came to listen, and see if they're right, and listening to all these "wisconsin accents" I'd say these people were right on it, because I don't hear it. It sounds like me, and this is the first time I've heard someone that sounds like me.
I really don't get it. I'm from Green Bay and when my friends or family travel everyone always says we have a distinctive WI accent and I don't really hear any difference from how I talk compared to how anyone else talks...
You spelled Kenosha wrong. I just thought it was funny. But YAY on spelling everything else right. I live in Kenosha and can't spell Milwaukee without spellcheck. lol!
I think its cute that people from Wisconsin don't think they have accents. My friend is from Milwaukee and she didn't think she has an accent until she moved to Georgia then she realized she had one. However before that she lived in Seattle and thought everyone there sounded like her- and she used to get upset when the Seattle locals would point out her Wisconsin accent to her and couldn't understand why because she thought she sounded "just like them"
I agree. The SE corner is all German influenced. And the more north/west you go you get the strong Scandinavian influences: cat becoming kyeat, that becoming 'thyeat'. Though, the whole state has the characteristic 'o', turning soft a's into hard a's (bag becomes bayg) and highly stressing their r's (Go 'fur' a walk).
I couldn't tell you're from the midwest from the way you talk. You could come from California (except they say "dude" alot). You have absolutely no accent at all. None. You're from WIsconsin. No accent. You're normal.
@TheFoxFan i never noticed that how we say that and thats true but i still dont hear the wisconsin accent :P even tho i am from wisconsin all i know is from ppl telling me is that we talk faster and pronounce things different
@TheFoxFan The hell we do! I lived in Wisconsin most of my life and have never heard that or said that-I say MIL-WAU-kee, Wis-CON-sin (not WES-con-sen or wis-CAHNNN-sen as people seem to think we do..I say "so", not "sooh", "aBOUT", not "aboot" or "aboat"...yet people hear I lived there and try to say I do when I can clearly hear that accent and know what it sounds like. I grew up with a mom from NY, an Estonian born, German accented grandma...so there's no way I have any wis-KAYN-sen accent lol
@sonbuhitsunei Eric Szmanda is a prime example, he's curbed it as CSI has gone on but in the begining and even now words like power, fire etc it's so obvious he doesn't think he has an accent either but you guys really do XD
@TheFoxFan Not at all true- SOME do, but most dont. If you'd live there for a while you'd quickly realize that. II know what the accent sounds like because it sounds weird to me too when I hear it - and I grew up there. It all depends on your parents and who you learned from in the first few years of life. Mine were from entirely different parts of the world, and my extended family, had German accents and Estonian accents. Yeah, he probably says power like "pAHwurr", right? I don't.
@TheFoxFan Lol well Yes I can see. We come from different places and are accustomed to the different ways of talking and accents and we hear someone from somewhere else and its like "OMG thats so cool!" lol :)
A Wisconsinite will often be heard to say, 'Muh-waukee' instead of 'Mill-waukee'. I've lived in NY for 30+ years and I still have much of my Wisconsin accent. No big deal.
The best part of this video is your classic Wisconsin 'O' when you say 'vide-o' at 0:05 and how you have an extreme Canadian vowel raising when you say 'about' at 0:18. It basically sounds like "a-boat".
Your hair's still beautiful and your accent seems to have gotten thicker (it's probably just coming out more since you're talking a bit more natural in this vid".
