Hey Nutn, how about some more clothing and flashlight reviews? i live in NYC so picking up guns and knives will either cost too much or bury me in paperwork. keep up the good work!
lol, nutnfancy, i actually kind of like shooting in the cold so i can test my cold weather gear too. In fact, i actually shoot better on cold days since my eyewear fogs up too much on hot days
Now friggin way. I just went to ll bean tonight and picked this fleece up without knowing of this review. Just thought i'd see if there was any information out there on it on youtube. Low and behold Nutnfancy does a review on it. I instantly knew I made the right choice.
@Kylemagg88 hey I'm wanting to get one online. Any recommendations on sizing? I wear an XL shirt size, would you recommend an XL Wind Challenger or XXL?
@The1Epistle They seem pretty true to size. I wear a large and it was plenty big. I usually have an isse with the arms being to short. It was not the case with this jacket.
Picked one up with a hood based on the review. Got 10% off and free shipping. It now has WEATHER GUARD BEHIND ZIPPER. I wear a T-shirt and fleece pullover under it and can withstand 20 degrees due to the DAM factor. Or where in the office. I don't mind spending the money if its worth it and this is and will last. Love it.
Dude! This fleece rocks I hardly ever have to take it off, and wear it 24/7! It has great DAM capabilities which allows me to wear it 24/7. The only thing I do not like about it is the inevitable vacuum effect of lint and fur.
I got one of these super cheap last year on sale at a Bean outlet store and it is hands-down one of the most versatile fleece jackets I've ever used. The wind block often makes it much warmer in "real world" conditions than a theoretically warmer 300wt. fleece that the wind just cuts right through.
It's also worth pointing out that the windbloc membrane gives this jacket better overall water resistance than most fleeces but does make it a little less breathable vs. a conventional fleece.
I just ordered the new version from llbean. There are improvements to the interior pockets and drawcord hem, but they have used lower quality zippers. I had one of the pocket zippers fail on me the first time wearing it in the field, so it didn't make me confident about the rest of them. The previous version did it right with the zippers.
Love the vid. I used to work @ REI and employees would sometimes debate merits of North Face/Patagonia versus cheaper fleece options (those brands are often 2X as costly)... I can attest to the construction quality of NF & Pat - have 2 fleece jacs that have lasted ~15+ years, & not a frayed stitch. I've had LL bean jacs as well but for whatever reason they vanished, either for cool-factor, or just not used as often. Love 2c more reviews of performance fleece/baselayers too. Keep it up Nutn
In the storage theme, i think the mesh pockets are made to dry-out gloves or similar types of gear. This is only my opinion and i may be wrong, but i works for me:)
so this is a dedicated fleece jacket, or more like a softshell? because of the wind blocking ability it seems more like a softshell. I like that, I'm not sure if I get that jacket or some softshell. outside the us you get ripped-off by all the us companies, they price it extremely high. buying it in the usa is way cheaper.
Very good review, and Very good products. I have used many L.L.Bean products and they LAST! I have noticed the sleeve length issue, but only when I have bought a clearance item that was NOT offered in tall.
I love these fleece jackets from LL Bean. And your right they do last a long time. Like the change up in this type of vid. keep up the great work Nutn.
I agree with the others. It would be awesome if you did a layering video for either the current seasonal weather, or the entire four seasons in different videos. I loved this review though, and I am a big fan of L.L.Bean when it comes to affordable good quality items. Although my first choice is usually Marmot.
Hey on the tag it says no fabric softener. You said you use a dryer sheet. I got your back Nutn. LOL I love your vids man, and value your opinion on a lot of stuff.
Are the fleece gloves LL Bean sells any good for cool weather shooting? When it is cold enough out to need gloves to shoot, the mechanix gloves just don't cut it for me.
Hey Nutnfancy, can you (if you haven't already) do a video on the layering system some time? I don't know too much about that. I think you can help out a lot of people if you make a video about your layering philosophy. There are probably a lot of variables that you need to keep it mind when it comes to layering for different seasons, temperatures, weather etc.
Thanks for the great videos and being pro-freedom, my friend.
Another great video! I think you should have started with a separate section on Philosophy of Use, as you do in your other videos. You mentioned it in passing, but it's important for this type of garment to address it separately.
I find polartec stuff not breathable enough for a mid-layer, but great for some purposes as an outer layer.
Patagonia seems really expensive upfront, but their stuff is so high quality that it lasts for 10-20+ years. So it always turns out to be a good investment IMO.
fleeces rock, i'm wearing one right now for two months and have no complaints. Don't really think there are big differences between the label of a fleece, though. And another thing: the less zippers and stitches the better.
sorry nutn man i have no interest in winter clothing because i live in the hottest continent on earth and its the driest soooo.... keep up the good work
@nutnfancy : you should definitely look into getting a carbon fiber tripod to save weight on your trips. The one you have looks excessively heavy. You'll love the ones made by Gitzo.
D.A.M its so educational, and this music is just jamming it gets my head bobbing and makes me want to buy a fleece =)
Rock on Nutn can't wait for the Condor Micro Fleece Jacket review, and thank you Veri for the heads up on that, I picked one up that same day and used the TNPCAV code for 10-15% off Awesome.
My father, my sister, and I all have one of these jackets, and we all love them. Great for a mid-layer when it's really cold, and makes a very lightweight and non-bulky jacket the rest of the year. Plenty of storage room, repels water pretty well, and definitely blocks the wind. Is wearing well, and Bean has a great return policy/warranty. Can't beat it. I personally have the hooded version, but I like hoods on most of my jackets. If you don't wear them, I would get the normal version.
Oh and definitely shop sales at the end of the season, or go to the outlet stores if you have one nearby...it's even sweeter when you get it for half price. L.L. Bean also does Daily Markdowns on their site, you can get some good deals that way too. Thanks for the vid, Nutn. I definitely agree.
Veri, Firenzi thanks you. Yes, he's named after the centaur in Harry Potter. But I think I spelled his name wrong--one disadvantage of listening to books instead of reading them!
Hey! Veri has a Youtube channel! Dudes, check it out, it's awesome!
Well, Firenzi is a beautiful boy..I'm such a dog lover, and goldens are the greatest.. My chihuahua is named Malfoy from the Harry Potter books too! Hubby named him cause he is a typical chihuahua...evil and scheming. I love him to death. Thanks for the channel plug! -- Veri

Great review! I, being from Maine, personally love to where L.L. Bean products. They have great quality and a quality guarantee hard to match. Not to mention a fantastic return policy. 5*
perfect review nutn, I fell that I have the same standards as you, as the vid was rolling i was talking to myself exactly what you were about to say! i find that with most of your vids Great job!!! really enjoyed this review!!
Don't get me wrong, hickok45 is a great guy with great videos. I really like this aspect of Nutn's vids as it adds variety. And I have found the content very interesting and helpful. I own a handful of fleece jackets already but still learned some things to make better purchased in the future.
problem on nutn's channel is that critics aren't allowed. i think he appreciate good critics but fags who just don't get it always downrate if you say something against his video. i mean - this video is just boring to me - my opinion - and whoooops 3 downrates.... kids tztz
agreed. I do see that on other vids/channels though. Watching a rtak II review and someone asked if Ontario and Rat Cutlery were the same thing and they were thumbed down about 4.
Sometimes I think the thumbs down is not that it's a bad comment, just that some disagree. Maybe their way of giving their opinion. But ya, I think in all channels there are the "thumb down happy ones."
great vid, Gotta love it. It's good to see you getting back to the basics. Don't get me wrong I like run and gunnin, It's nice to see video's on true survival. Thank you for your hard work....TNP ..... Rocks.
This is something youre wearing, something thats attached to you and will play into factor towards how you perform on field. Would you want to wear something thatll disentigrate on the fields ?
Just like Nutnfancy, it is absolutely exhausting to try to find high quality clothing in tall sizes. I am same height and weight. As always, your opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Windbloc is NOT windproof. It is about as effective as Wind Pro but less breathable. Contrary to this review, this jacket should be used for insulation ONLY. It won't be an effective outer layer except on a calm day.
A wind layer should have a hood. For a good technical shell, look to Mountain Hardwear or Patagonia. LL Bean just doesn't have it.
I agree. The Patagonia R4 is close - it actually has a laminate sandwiched between the fleece layers, but that sacrifices breathability (it has pit zips). For winter camping, my top layers include a polyester/merino long sleeve crew, a Wind Pro fleece jacket, a light Primaloft jacket (15 oz), and a Gore Tex Paclite shell (11 oz). I've been toasty in -20F w/40 mph wind.
short sleeves isn't a problem limited to LLBean fleeces. the fleece i wear all the time is from Old Navy and the only problem i have with it is that the sleeves are a tad bit to short
hey nutnfancy. i saw one of your glock video and i love the paint job... i want to paint my ppk but i dont know where and how to start. i dont know if i should just use regular heat protected paint then a clear coat over it... im afraid that painting my gun would resault into a uncomfortable sticky feeling. please help me out
It's not regular spray-paint bro. What Nutnfancy uses is called DuraCoat. Search his videos for this keyword and you'll get plenty of good results, including "DuraCoat Firearm Finishing Intro by Nutnfancy"
Yo, nutn please look at some of the patagonia stuff and add your $0.02
In my experience a lot of their stuff has been bombproof and best performing in field - regardless of cost. North Face was like that in the past but IMHO has fallen off. Quality is quality, and the best stuff should be acknowledged. If it's not 'value' fine - make that point. but people would benefit to know what the best working stuff in the field is. Just good gear that kicks butt. Love all your stuff. Keep on.
Even his dog watches his vids. Doggy has his own USK! I'd like a review on said dog and his kit with data points in later vids. If disaster strikes I want my beagle Davey to be ready for the aftermath. Cool vid though!
i subscribed cause i liked the knife reviews. 10 minutes and i was well informed. those were the days. Now, i get excited when a new video comes out only to be disappointed that its a 30 minute vid about fleece. reference fleece. wow. he ran out of ideas long ago. peace nutn. it was a blast. this is me unsubscribing.
I get perplexed with the comments that the vids are too long. I get that you may not be into this particular vid or that you had the info you needed at 10min, but you are in control of the computer and tell it what to do. You don't have to watch the whole thing. I think there is enough people though who enjoyed the content/length of vid. I guess I just don't see this as worthy of unsubscribing.
Bob, you can look at the video length before you watch any video on youtube. Nutn's reviews about anything are generally indepth and some would say lengthy. We get mail saying make them longer and we get mail saying make them shorter..in the end, he makes them as long as HE sees fit..but you're welcome to watch them or not.
Well, now you're acting like a big boy. That's exactly what I would recommend. As I stated, you can check the length of the video before viewing and make your decision accordingly.
@Verilioness Wow you are so COOL! Dude what the hell, I said I'm not watching a 30 minute video about a jacket. What's wrong with that? Because 30 minutes is a long time. And yeah I did check the length of the video isn't that obvious? You are the one who thinks he is cool for talking back about what you think is right and that I am sooo wrong. So what the hell is your point?

I've been wearing this jacket for 5 years. I just got the new updated version. The great thing about LL Bean is they have 100% guarantee!!
The first jacket I had the stitching began to fail after 2 years...sent it in and they sent me a new one. The second one had a zipper that went south after 3 years...sent it in and they sent me the newer version....gotta love LL Bean! Oh, and the best part is they offer "Tall" sizes which is what I wear.

Don't get me wrong, hickok45 is a great guy with great videos. I really like this aspect of Nutn's vids as it adds variety. And I have found the content very interesting and helpful. I own a handful of fleece jackets already but still learned some things to make better purchased in the future.
Cr0cket20 2 years ago 2
problem on nutn's channel is that critics aren't allowed. i think he appreciate good critics but fags who just don't get it always downrate if you say something against his video. i mean - this video is just boring to me - my opinion - and whoooops 3 downrates.... kids tztz
Wiggling 2 years ago

The only reason why Nutnfancy likes LL Bean, is because he likes saying the word Bean. LOL JK!

This is something youre wearing, something thats attached to you and will play into factor towards how you perform on field. Would you want to wear something thatll disentigrate on the fields ?

I spend a lot of time outdoors in cold weather. I love fleece and find it a big part of my layering system.

LL Bean just doesn't have it.
icychap 2 years ago
or look to cabella's. but DON'T COUNT ON FLEECE FOR A GOOD OUTER LAYER.
mrbeligos 2 years ago
I've been toasty in -20F w/40 mph wind.

short sleeves isn't a problem limited to LLBean fleeces. the fleece i wear all the time is from Old Navy and the only problem i have with it is that the sleeves are a tad bit to short
schnips074 2 years ago
Ah, this is excellent info — pls. do shells next! I'd be interested in your opinion on eVent vs. Goretex vs. DWR.

hey nutnfancy. i saw one of your glock video and i love the paint job... i want to paint my ppk but i dont know where and how to start. i dont know if i should just use regular heat protected paint then a clear coat over it... im afraid that painting my gun would resault into a uncomfortable sticky feeling. please help me out
ramiel2000 2 years ago
It's not regular spray-paint bro. What Nutnfancy uses is called DuraCoat. Search his videos for this keyword and you'll get plenty of good results, including "DuraCoat Firearm Finishing Intro by Nutnfancy"

hope he is wearing his NORTH FACE hat......
mrbeligos 2 years ago 2

Now, i get excited when a new video comes out only to be disappointed that its a 30 minute vid about fleece. reference fleece. wow. he ran out of ideas long ago. peace nutn. it was a blast. this is me unsubscribing.
fluffychest 2 years ago
Nutnfancy isn't just a knife reviewer, he's a GEAR reviewer... And a fleece is outdoor gear so it is subject for analysis by the TNP!

I dig the versatility of Nutn's reviews and the length of the videos is perfect.
SFSideburns 2 years ago 2
I get perplexed with the comments that the vids are too long. I get that you may not be into this particular vid or that you had the info you needed at 10min, but you are in control of the computer and tell it what to do. You don't have to watch the whole thing. I think there is enough people though who enjoyed the content/length of vid. I guess I just don't see this as worthy of unsubscribing.
Cr0cket20 2 years ago 8
@JonoNZ100 No, it isn't.
bobandfredpuppet 2 years ago
When nutnfancy does a review, he will tell you everything there is to know and consider about the item/subject.
I think it pretty awesome.
Usually you get short changed by the reviews that leave out the details. I'll sit and listen.

Is a 30 minute long video really necessary?
bobandfredpuppet 2 years ago
yup, extensive reviews. better than not having questions answered at all. he atleast covers everything if not most of everything
flynhawain 2 years ago 6
For some people, no; for others, yes. Nutn is just being thorough, which really isn't a negative critique for a reviewer.

Thou dost not enjoyest having all the info laid out for thee? Get thy @ss to Wal-mart and ask them for help :)
Unless you're in the market for a fleece, no totally NOT necessary. Useful.
By all means don't watch if you find the vid too long.
30 mins is relatively short for Nutn BTW :)
jake262144 2 years ago 5
Bob, you can look at the video length before you watch any video on youtube. Nutn's reviews about anything are generally indepth and some would say lengthy. We get mail saying make them longer and we get mail saying make them shorter..in the end, he makes them as long as HE sees fit..but you're welcome to watch them or not.

@Verilioness I don't care. 30 minutes is too long for a video, so I won't watch it.
bobandfredpuppet 2 years ago
