I remember this song so well. I was fifteen, and this was the *first* song I learned to play and sing on the guitar. I haven't heard it in 45 years. But I was stunned by how truly accurate is still is. The bad news is that not much has changed. The good news is - we're still here. At the time this song came out, the fear that the "button might be pushed" at any minute was still very real. Two steps forward, one step back. Here's hoping it improves over that ratio.

I remember this song so well. I was fifteen, and this was the *first* song I learned to play and sing on the guitar. I haven't heard it in 45 years. But I was stunned by how truly accurate is still is. The bad news is that not much has changed. The good news is - we're still here. At the time this song came out, the fear that the "button might be pushed" at any minute was still very real. Two steps forward, one step back. Here's hoping it improves over that ratio.

Great song. I like the music from this period. But I disagree with it's message. He is more than a little raving. For example no one will push the button because of the M.A.D Mutually Assured Destruction. Things are not as bad as he paints. I' m a child of the 60's and as I think back as a small boy this song rang true in my ear's loud and clear, I was maybe 12-13 than but I knew ever word. Today I fell it is closer to a reality than ever.

This was written in the early 70's, and the lyrics are so poignant, they can apply to ANY generation. One of the best lines is: "Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace" ..shows the hypocrisy of it all!!
