Unfortunately basic means only the head. No lens, no viewfinder, no on board microphone, no power supply, no batteries, not even the tripod plate adapter! Add everything up and for the basic stuff comes close to $50,000 to be able to push the record buttom and record something. Pocket change indeed!

with a P+S technik adaptor, or similar, you can mount 35mm film lenses on it.
is it better than red? if you like tape, certainly. if you like proven, reliable technology, definitely.
if, however, you think you are going to produce in 4K resolution, then it is not "better than the red"
