how do u know wen to stop training Evs for a certain stat cus I'm ev training a rattata (adamant) in attack but I also want to train for speed as it's going to be a u-turn lead so I don't know wen to start training for speed?
@SLiKZz01 there's a couple tests you can check for. one is to just attack train until you level up, but count how many attack evs you go. if you killed 50 seakings and only got +2 in attack then obviously it's maxed out. another way is to use a stat calculator to find the attack stat that your pokemon would have with maxed out evs. the third is just to give it protein and if it works then your pokemon has less than 100 attack evs.
Man... I was training my vulpix and I dunno if I was doing wrong but I was killing pidgey and rattata for spd ev and I got like 6+ in spd like twice and then it went back to normal. I got 252 ev in spd and sp atk and 6 ev in hp but I went to that lady to check if I maxed out my Ev but she said it needs to work harder.
I learned the max you can get is like 510 EV's and you need to defeat four EV giving pokemon to earn 1 EV in that stat. Is this right? Also, is it 510EV's per stat or between all 6?Because I've been fighting immense amounts of the pokemon listed on your list but it doesn't seem to help any at all...
No, it's 1 EV for beating one pokemon in each stat. (Or 2 for some. Like Muk you get 2 HP EVs, Seaking you get 2 attack EVs) It's 4 EVs to earn one point in a stat. (So after 40 points you get +10 more in that particular stat.) It's 510 between all 6 EVs. That's the total number you can have. It's 255 per stat, but there's no point in getting 255 because it's not divisible by 4 (and therefore does not increase your stats). So the true 'max' that's worth it is 252.
@Aldrius but whenever I get 4 EV in the stat it doesn't seem to raise one point. Not to mention whenever Ievel up the numbers are static. It's always +1 +2 etc etc.
It doesn't work the way you think it does. Basically, it'll go up by a certain amount BY level 100. You'll notice if you get like 100 EVs in a stat in just one level, the stat will go up by +3 or +4. (Or if you're much higher in level it'll go up by a lot more, because it has a lot more to gain BY level 100) A gain of a single stat point in general just isn't going to be that noticable. Just keep a record of what you've done, and it'll be noteworthy when it needs to be.
I decided Ev training only works when it feels like it. I was trying to improve my Alakazam's Defense by training just below Blackthorn. It was holding Macho Brace and I was battling mostly Gravelers with an occasional Geodude or Gligar thrown in. Yet when it leveled up (to 47) it got only 1+ Defense. I stared at my game and was thoroughly disgusted.
If anyone can tell me what is wrong, that would be appreciated. I'm new to this EV thing.
@NightmareTroubador that may be 'cause alakazam's defense is real bad, at level 100 the max def alakazam can have is 207 so don't expect to get lots of point when u level up, even with all the possible evs
is this necessary? it looks complicated.. if ev training is only for like wifi battles.. then i guess i dont need it, but for just the regular game you dont need this right? couldnt you just use the foods like protein carbos and the other stuff?
@Thoraxe555 I agree with you. You know how expensive is it for us to buy such items? EV training is basically for Wifi Battling. In-game is not necessary.
@jahnsmikey Well, ofcourse there are other places, but surfing in Dark Cave is 100% Magikarps which give 1 EV and the way I EV train with Pokerus and power items they give 10 EVs for each KO. Magikarp is easy to beat as well, which is why I recommended it.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting OMG WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO I JUST HATCHED A FUCKING PICHU AR'D UP TO LEVEL 100 AND NO IM STUCK FIGHTING A FUCKING GEODUDE LVL 13 TRAINER BATTLE OMG LOL
Actually, the best place to EV train SP. Attack is Route 43 (just above Mahogany Town). Depending the time of the day, you have a 30% or 40% chance of finding a Flaffy (2 points) and another 30% of chance finding a Girafarig (also 2 points). You still find some Marreps (5%, 10%) but it's only 1 EV point of SP. Attack. By far the best spot.
@IanFarias00 I beg to differ, Route 6 is the best. 100% of the time you'll find Pokemon that give special attack EVs. You'll find mostly Psyducks that give 1 EV and Golducks that give 2. Psyduck appears 90% of the time, Golduck 10%.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting I'm not talking about getting EVs always, i'm talking about getting more EVs in the least amount of time and I'm pretty sure you must agree that would be the best way to make it. The expected value of the EVs gained by training your way (route 6) is 1.1 per battle. In my method (route 43) the expected value varies from 1.25 to 1.5 EVs per battle, which means that even in the worst case scenario it's better to get the Sp. Attack EVs on route 43. It's all about the maths.
@IanFarias00 The way I EV trained was I'd use a power item and gain 10 EVs per battle with a Pokemon with Pokerus, so in the end all I had to do was battle 16 Pokemon to get maxed EVs after vitamins, that's all I'm saying, and no chance of running into anything that'd waste time. 15 with the power item, one without.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Dude, I'm ain't saying you got a bad method, just saying using mine you'll maximize your EVs faster, if your pokemomn got pokerus or you're using items, use in mine as well and you'll still be doing faster my way. You may think running into a pidgeotto is a waste of time, but in the end the amount of Flaffy's and Girafarig's found is gonna compensate and make it even easier.
I have a question, I got the Power Bracer for my Nidoking, do just keep Bombing on the seeking and Goldeen? just making sure i understand this completely.
For Speed, I prefer Fisherman Kyler. After a few rematches, he has 6 Magikarp. 6 Speed EV. + Macho Brace = * 2. If you're lucky and have PokéRus, that means 24 per battle with him. Power Bracer or whatever gives 20 with PokéRus, so yeah.
Head to blackthorn city and head to the woman on the right end. If she said that your pokemon worked stupendously hard then she will give you an effort ribbon. This means you are done ev training.
@The1satan It's called a really bad joke, Defense, C fense A fense if you don't see the really bad joke there then I have no hope for you. Also I don't really care if you don't like my "accent" it's just my voice and I'm stuck with it.

Might I suggest, for defense training, the grass on Route 26? Basically everything there is a Sandslash (And what isn't is usually a Dodrio), which gives +2 defense.
However, since they're ~lvl30, you get a few more exp points, which is why I give an exp share (or 2) to party pokemon. That gives them the EV's as well, while making the training last longer.
Oh, and you can rest at the little house right outside the grass
i dont really get this whole EV thing....wat if u have like a lvl 45+ pokemon and u try to train EV but the pokemon you're fighting are like level 10? wouldn't that take forever? someone plz respond or send me a message
@gtarhero Yes, it takes forever, but you get a massive stat gain at the end because you killed more of them. Level doesn't affect how many EV's you get from each pokemon, each species gives a set amount
Check bulbapedia for a list of which pokemon gives what
@megavictor388, KIND OF. You must defeat one Pokemon with the same Effort Value. For example, Krabby and Goldeen have one Effort Value in attack; so you can substitute them if they give the same value. If you want to learn more about EV training, feel free to PM me. :)
@itzbrandon212 EVs are not related to stat gains they are a hidden value... you have to keep track of it yourself and you will only see the full results at level 100. It's really not that hard.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting You see the results whenever you level up. For example, leveling my Houndoom to lvl 46 by battling mareep/flaaffy/girafarig on Route 43 yielded +24 sp.attk
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting i've been ev training with the goldeen and i've been getting +5 attack, but now that i'm 26, it doesn't work anymore for some reason
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting can you help me out. honestly ive been playing pokemon for years and this is the first time ive heard of EV's. now im starting to think are they a big deal. can you please tell me what they're meant for and are they worth working hard to get?
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Well considering the speed on diglett and dugtrios are both better then magikarp and since there are no chances of finding any other pokemon in diglett cave it is the best place to speed train.
so for special attack i beat a psyduck with power lens how many points would i get 5 or 4 and then if i beat a golduck how many points would i get 5 or 6 ev points? please answer im sry it must be annoying
@revolutionist2008 All of the power items give you an additional 4 points in the stat it corresponds with. So for your case, beating a Psyduck which gives 1 Sp.Atk EV, with a Power Lens, would give you 5 EVs. Defeating a Golduck would give 6 EVs.
i have a question, can i train my pokemon normally till like half an exp bar then fight like some zubats till lvl up or do i have to fight zubats from start to finish?
@SomethingWong You can do it either way. Just know that you would gain more points when you level up if you did if from start to finish, than just half way of the exp bar. You gain EVs for every pokemon you defeat, in this case Zubat. Let's say it takes 20 Zubat to level you up from "start to finish" and 10 from "half of the exp bar". If you beat the 20 Zubat you would get 20 EVs in speed, giving you 5 more points on the level up, rather than the 2 points you would get from beating 10 Zubat.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting ok i gotta scizor its probably the strongest ev trained pokemon ull ever see 394 att 299 def 188 sp.atk 259 sp.def 229 speed i wanna get my lucario to that but where do i train when i hit the 50s
ok i gotta scizor its probably the strongest ev trained pokemon ull ever see 394 att 299 def 188 sp.atk 259 sp.def 229 speed i wanna get my lucario to that but where do i train when i hit the 50s
@fungstyll , once the EV's have been maxed out you can train anywere you want. but until then train the right stats. also IV's (individual values) make a huge difference in how good your pokemon's stats are. (you can check your IV's in the game(if you have DPP or HHSS) by going to the Battle Tower and talking to the guy by the PC. he will give you an idea of your pokemon's IVs. (IVs are for the most part random)>>>>see serebii.net for more info
PS: i bet your scizor is way above average. check.
It should be noted, another good place for attack is the very first part of Mt. Silver. If you surf/fishing rod the water at the start, you only get Guaridos and Seaking, both which give 2 for attack. Another helpful thing is, if at night, u almost always encounter a Guaridos, and said Guaridos has a 100% chance of giving 611 exp, so if you ever lose count, you can just divide your experience and there you go.
@milun2 I don't see why anyone who EV trains would want to fish for EVs, it takes forever... There's better ways to go about it because all the areas in my description have 100% of that EV type essentially and they're all much easier to find than fishing since the fishing is practically the same as just going to a random area with Pokemon in it and waiting for the right one to show up. Also it's Gyarados.
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Ok ok sorry. But notice I also mentioned surfing, and doing so will give you a guaranteed encounter with Seakings (and very rarely Gyaridos). I think once I encountered a Goldeen there as well, but it's still a good location.
I was wondering something, if anybody can help, is their a diference between battling lots of pokémon who gives not to many evs or to battle less who gives more evs? Help is appreciated;)
Can someone explain to me why it's important to EV train early? Can't you just level your pokemon up to 50 then start? I want to EV train them in the stats that they're strong in anyways. Sorry if this is a n00b question.
@SparkPlugs186 You know, EVs are not that difficult to understand. You can EV any Pokemon at any time, you always gain EVs when you gain experience in battle. If you have those EV reducing berries you can undo all the EVs, but that will take forever if you don't cheat for berries, which at that point you should just use Pokesav and not bother with EV training. You can EV at any time, but you got to make sure you remember all the ones you gain while you level up but in gen 4 levels are pointless.
Before I trained my Ralts on only Bellsprouts, (lv.6), i gave it vitamins for each stat, namely attack, and it holds a power bracer, and a naughty nature, then i trained it untill it was about lv 13, then i succumbed to my lazyness. began training on normal pokes. like lv 23 geodudes and gravelers, STUPIDLY. now its lv 30 Gallade, Attack is at 109ish, is that good?
@waffle12996 Uh. No. I really don't see why people make mountains out of mole hills when it comes to EV training, it's the simplest thing ever. Vitamins can only give you 100 EVs, so you can only have 10 of one before you can't have any more. 510 is the max you can have, 4 EVs = +1 stat point at level 100, so 252 is the highest you should go despite 255 being the limit for each stat, why waste 3 EVs? If you really need help understanding this still, download Pokemon Online or any other simulator
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Oh okay. I gave my scizor a bunch of vitamins and it wasn't gaining as much attack as the other one when I was training it. Thanks for explaining everything lol
Question with EV training: Let's say I have a freshly caught/bred pokemon with no EV's allocated anywhere. I get how to raise its EV's to 252 and etc but once I hit 252 for two stats and 4 for the other, (in order words, I use up all my EV's) can I just keep leveling it up at that point regardless of which pokemon I fight or methods I use? Like, it's EV's don't get reallocated or anything after I fill up the initial 510 right?
Is there a better spot for Defense cuz i feel that the graveler and geodude give to much experience points hence you lvl up quicker which makes for a only decent defense level up
so i got a Blaziken and a bagon and a electabuzz with the electrizer
all with perfect iv's in their attack stat and i was going to release them but i figure someone out there might want to train them and keep them. so if anyone out there was looking for any of those three or even all three let me know.
message me if you want all three or just one of them.
i recommend viridian forest for speed. weedles there are +1, but theres a combination of pikachus and pidgeottos that appear way more frequently than they did in their red/blue counterpart. pikachu is +2 and pidgeotto is +2. best for speed, watch out kakunas don't give speed evs though.
i have to ask a few things... 1. Why does everybody bring up Pokerus if it is almost impossible to get? 2. How do i know what i want to max out? why should i choose my attack over my defense? 3. If i am trying to max out my attack, do i have to face the same pokemon over and over or can i take a break from EV training and come back to it? 4. I have already played this game and got all 16 badges. My pokemon are in the 60s, is it too late to begin EV training?
@batcow10 you can train them anytime before lv 100 i think. then again your stats will go up without you even levelling up so im not sure. but evolution doesnt matter
can you just use rare candies to level them up to a high level then battle say a bunch of goldeens to up attack. just wondering would it work the same or would it be better to train before you level up or evolve your pokemon
hey thanks for the video. I had stopped playing pokemon for about 4 years. But then, through watching this video, it made me feel that I should go all out on this again. :) post more videos! happy new year!
so i got a question. i got a couple of Pokemon that are in the high levels already but not level 100 yet and i just figured how to Ev train right. so i was wondering when using those berries to take away the Ev's should i also use the ones for hp because ism not sure if hp counts towards the total of Ev's you can get for a Pokemon
@stijntje09 k cool thanks. now i can level up the rest of my guys. also hey haven't tried this method before but
technically you could use rare candies to level them up high and then ev train from there right. its the same as the usual method right. just need to make sure because i think i am can get my new scizor up to max attack 381
If you go to Mt. Silver, and surf on the water to your left, Seaking will show up 90% of the time, and goldeen the other 10%, plus, it's more experience. :P
@PhoenixDjinni96 Yes, but the whole idea of EV training is to get as much points as you can into 2 or 3 stats. If you want a balance in all the stats, you might as well not even EV train and fight whatever Pokemon you want to.
another AWESOME place for sp. attack training is in the grass near lake of rage. girafarigs and flaafys gives 2 evs each.

CybeRogue23 10 months ago
i dont really get this whole EV thing....wat if u have like a lvl 45+ pokemon and u try to train EV but the pokemon you're fighting are like level 10? wouldn't that take forever? someone plz respond or send me a message
gtarhero 10 months ago
@gtarhero Yes, it takes forever, but you get a massive stat gain at the end because you killed more of them. Level doesn't affect how many EV's you get from each pokemon, each species gives a set amount
Check bulbapedia for a list of which pokemon gives what
CybeRogue23 10 months ago
do you have to kill one Pokemon over and over
megavictor388 10 months ago
@megavictor388, KIND OF. You must defeat one Pokemon with the same Effort Value. For example, Krabby and Goldeen have one Effort Value in attack; so you can substitute them if they give the same value. If you want to learn more about EV training, feel free to PM me. :)

I keep battling grimers with the power weight but my Dusknoir keeps only getting +2 plz help
itzbrandon212 10 months ago
@itzbrandon212 EVs are not related to stat gains they are a hidden value... you have to keep track of it yourself and you will only see the full results at level 100. It's really not that hard.
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 10 months ago
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting You see the results whenever you level up. For example, leveling my Houndoom to lvl 46 by battling mareep/flaaffy/girafarig on Route 43 yielded +24 sp.attk
CybeRogue23 10 months ago
@CybeRogue23 Is it better to EV train Sp.Attack at Route 43 or Route 6 O-O" I need to know ^ ^

Actually, the best place to train for speed is Diglett Cave. But nice video.
NinjaMichiko 11 months ago
@NinjaMichiko I still think the best place is Dark Cave where you surf and only Magikarps appear, but whatever...
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 11 months ago
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Well considering the speed on diglett and dugtrios are both better then magikarp and since there are no chances of finding any other pokemon in diglett cave it is the best place to speed train.
NinjaMichiko 11 months ago
@NinjaMichiko Magikarp gives as much speed as diglett and is 100% findable when surfing in dark cave, same difference and Dugtrio is rare
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 11 months ago
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting You can find Dugtrio in Diglett cave. But anyway, nice video. And thanks because i needed a defense EV training spot.

so for special attack i beat a psyduck with power lens how many points would i get 5 or 4 and then if i beat a golduck how many points would i get 5 or 6 ev points? please answer im sry it must be annoying
revolutionist2008 11 months ago
@revolutionist2008 All of the power items give you an additional 4 points in the stat it corresponds with. So for your case, beating a Psyduck which gives 1 Sp.Atk EV, with a Power Lens, would give you 5 EVs. Defeating a Golduck would give 6 EVs.

i have a question, can i train my pokemon normally till like half an exp bar then fight like some zubats till lvl up or do i have to fight zubats from start to finish?
SomethingWong 11 months ago
@SomethingWong You can do it either way. Just know that you would gain more points when you level up if you did if from start to finish, than just half way of the exp bar. You gain EVs for every pokemon you defeat, in this case Zubat. Let's say it takes 20 Zubat to level you up from "start to finish" and 10 from "half of the exp bar". If you beat the 20 Zubat you would get 20 EVs in speed, giving you 5 more points on the level up, rather than the 2 points you would get from beating 10 Zubat.

fungstyll 11 months ago
@fungstyll , once the EV's have been maxed out you can train anywere you want. but until then train the right stats. also IV's (individual values) make a huge difference in how good your pokemon's stats are. (you can check your IV's in the game(if you have DPP or HHSS) by going to the Battle Tower and talking to the guy by the PC. he will give you an idea of your pokemon's IVs. (IVs are for the most part random)>>>>see serebii.net for more info
PS: i bet your scizor is way above average. check.

very good video.
mgoodwin10 1 year ago
It should be noted, another good place for attack is the very first part of Mt. Silver. If you surf/fishing rod the water at the start, you only get Guaridos and Seaking, both which give 2 for attack. Another helpful thing is, if at night, u almost always encounter a Guaridos, and said Guaridos has a 100% chance of giving 611 exp, so if you ever lose count, you can just divide your experience and there you go.
milun2 1 year ago
@milun2 I don't see why anyone who EV trains would want to fish for EVs, it takes forever... There's better ways to go about it because all the areas in my description have 100% of that EV type essentially and they're all much easier to find than fishing since the fishing is practically the same as just going to a random area with Pokemon in it and waiting for the right one to show up. Also it's Gyarados.
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 1 year ago 3
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Ok ok sorry. But notice I also mentioned surfing, and doing so will give you a guaranteed encounter with Seakings (and very rarely Gyaridos). I think once I encountered a Goldeen there as well, but it's still a good location.
milun2 1 year ago
I was wondering something, if anybody can help, is their a diference between battling lots of pokémon who gives not to many evs or to battle less who gives more evs? Help is appreciated;)

Can someone explain to me why it's important to EV train early? Can't you just level your pokemon up to 50 then start? I want to EV train them in the stats that they're strong in anyways. Sorry if this is a n00b question.
SparkPlugs186 1 year ago
@SparkPlugs186 You know, EVs are not that difficult to understand. You can EV any Pokemon at any time, you always gain EVs when you gain experience in battle. If you have those EV reducing berries you can undo all the EVs, but that will take forever if you don't cheat for berries, which at that point you should just use Pokesav and not bother with EV training. You can EV at any time, but you got to make sure you remember all the ones you gain while you level up but in gen 4 levels are pointless.
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 1 year ago
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Ok, thanks for explaining
SparkPlugs186 1 year ago
Before I trained my Ralts on only Bellsprouts, (lv.6), i gave it vitamins for each stat, namely attack, and it holds a power bracer, and a naughty nature, then i trained it untill it was about lv 13, then i succumbed to my lazyness. began training on normal pokes. like lv 23 geodudes and gravelers, STUPIDLY. now its lv 30 Gallade, Attack is at 109ish, is that good?
Muirbidul 1 year ago
@Muirbidul I've heard that you shouldn't give it vitamins so early because it maxes out the EVs and it won't gain as much.
waffle12996 1 year ago
@waffle12996 Uh. No. I really don't see why people make mountains out of mole hills when it comes to EV training, it's the simplest thing ever. Vitamins can only give you 100 EVs, so you can only have 10 of one before you can't have any more. 510 is the max you can have, 4 EVs = +1 stat point at level 100, so 252 is the highest you should go despite 255 being the limit for each stat, why waste 3 EVs? If you really need help understanding this still, download Pokemon Online or any other simulator
TheGuyWhoIsSitting 1 year ago
@TheGuyWhoIsSitting Oh okay. I gave my scizor a bunch of vitamins and it wasn't gaining as much attack as the other one when I was training it. Thanks for explaining everything lol
waffle12996 1 year ago
Question with EV training: Let's say I have a freshly caught/bred pokemon with no EV's allocated anywhere. I get how to raise its EV's to 252 and etc but once I hit 252 for two stats and 4 for the other, (in order words, I use up all my EV's) can I just keep leveling it up at that point regardless of which pokemon I fight or methods I use? Like, it's EV's don't get reallocated or anything after I fill up the initial 510 right?
AnbuXSwordsman 1 year ago
@AnbuXSwordsman
Yes, after you have allocated your EV's, there is no changing them unless you eat specific berries.

Is there a better spot for Defense cuz i feel that the graveler and geodude give to much experience points hence you lvl up quicker which makes for a only decent defense level up

i recommend viridian forest for speed. weedles there are +1, but theres a combination of pikachus and pidgeottos that appear way more frequently than they did in their red/blue counterpart. pikachu is +2 and pidgeotto is +2. best for speed, watch out kakunas don't give speed evs though.

i have to ask a few things...

PhoenixDjinni96 1 year ago
@PhoenixDjinni96 Yes, but the whole idea of EV training is to get as much points as you can into 2 or 3 stats. If you want a balance in all the stats, you might as well not even EV train and fight whatever Pokemon you want to.
