Head Over Heels was one of the first records I ever bought; it is such a unique album. The production is like nothing else I'd heard, before or since. I am never usually a vinyl snob but I have to say that vinyl is the only way to listen to this album!
One of my favorite CT songs. I, too, bought the LP back in the '87...as an import at Tower Records in Hollywood. The artwork on the sleeve was the coolest part of the album...the smell...the thick plastic folder all imports came in...the sound when the needle hit the record...still have the LP...it's only been played a few times for recording onto cassette tape. I feel like a dinosaur.
Love this song - I saw them at the Brighton Dome in 1984, at the time it was one of the most boring concerts I'd been to, they stood miles back on the stage and didn't move. Sadly at the time I was no fan of Treasure I just loved the earlier stuff like this track and the first LP. Then a year or so later Treasure clicked in my brain and I badly wanted a replay of the gig!
I stand by what I say now as then Elizabeth Frazer is the hottest most alluring woman in music, she sjows no leg not one bit os skin but still manages to work me up. Apart from singing in esperanto a dialect of spanish, I once asked my girl if she minded that I listen to this whilst I was with her? she replied no I don't mind but then I don't think she got the sexual fantasy thing no what I mean sa matter of fact I am sure she did not get the idea at all so I don't listen to them with her
love the dark atmosphere, the bass line , the voice of the singer ..... the atmosphere in their songs , their first records was dark ....... and beatiful...
Wow, this is the very first song I knew of them. As beautiful as always, that was 1985-86, I was in high school. I listened a lot The Cure and the early Depeche Mode works. It's like a piece of time-space frozen. It's a shame I didn't saw this video before, Shum, thanks for posting!
The whole production on this song (and that goes for the whole "Head Over Heels album I think) is absolutely brilliant. I must admit that I've never been keen on bands using a saxophone.(it's the Antichrist of good soundscapes...yes, I am an uptight fascist twit when it comes to the sax and productions..so sue me ;-) )...but in this case surrender..unconditionally. It fits right in. It's used with such economy. It's flawless. Got 2 copies of the Lp on vinyl. One never played. HAH!! :-D
Haha, thats me getting carried away again wearing my Halloween mask....!! I totally agree mate, the Production of the whole album is awesome, and still gives me goosebumps.....HOH,was the first LP I bought of theirs in 83..wow..was it good. and WOW its still outstanding...!!! And that iconic cover....!!! Good for you mate buying 2 copies..... Now thats dedication my friend.....!!! Cheers Sandboge....
I had it on LP ... all scratched ... bought a new one and cared for it like a Baby. Still I bought the CD, so that I can play it on Vinyl on special moments - the best of the Cocteau Twins ever, I still believe! Keep it up Shum :)!
Fuck... This is, perfect, just perfect, thank so much for such incredible video. The magic of cocteau, the haunting bass and this fantastic piece of video, man what a mix. Again, Thank you.
This song is so haunting! LOVE the wicked bass... it just dominates and leaves a chill in my bones. Richard's horn add such a nice element too. LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!! THANKS SHUM!!!!
Oh, one other thought.... This song could come to represent my and many other Americans' mounting debt, growing 5, 10, 50X, while the wealthiest 5% or so of the Population controls 90+ percent of the wealth (and holds all the power). Also, our wheezing and sneezing may progress to pneumonia, but for those of us without health insurance, and who can't afford to see a Doctor or pay for prescriptions, we're screwed! God, I hope Mr. Obama wins, and at the very least starts to change things!
I tend to play this song when I have a cold, obviously for the wheezing/sneezing refrain, taken at least on a superficial level. Another good song, for those suffering from a headcold, is Nina Hagen's "Hatschi Waldera" - it's hysterical even if you don't understand German, and laughing makes one feel better. Nina sneezes and sniffles through the whole thing, and a video clip from the mid-70's of her singing it while sick in bid is a hoot. For those interested, it's in my Top Faves.
Such a nice job, shum. What's behind the draperies, then? Scary monsters? The National Front? Jehovah's Witnesses, or a vacuum cleaner Salesperson coming up the walk? Or maybe the only Elizabeth Fraser herself (that would be so cool!). I'd just hope she'd show up on a day when I've recently dusted the place, and thoroughly cleaned the bathroom! It never works that way with surprise Guests, however, in my experience...
always think of this song when its 10:54 as to me it sounds like
'wheezinansneezinan balls into a park, by 10:54 where gashion
girls play' but i'm[sure its]not.

@posypity Its so funny when we all interpret how we think the words
of a CTs song are, another great gift by Liz she likes us to put our
own ideas and thoughts from her songs, I aint a clue to most of the words
to their songs, but have fun singing along lol :)

@rachfatcat Hi there, I agree its a classic album thats stood the
test of time in everyway, with amazing production for sure, Im a vinyl

more flat in quality even though they have really clear sound quality.
Great tro hear from you my friend :-))
