In my opinion one of the best soul vocal performances ever, and so sadly overlooked by a lot of people. Frankie has got to be up there with otis, luther etc.
Was told a lot of stories about him from my dad who knew him and just so great to see exactly what he was talking about.
every now and again I go looking for other versions of this song on youtube. But I keep coming back to this one... What a beautiful moment this is; I'm so glad it was caught on film. Tasty guitar playing too. But man, 2"49' through 3"11' just about brings me to tears every time. Awesome.
I have followed Frankie from the middle 70s as I used to work with his now ex brother in law, and he was brilliant live, the concert in Glasgow city halls in 1978 was great with his best pal the big yin (Billy Connolly) in attendance. He fell ill in 1994 and was in a coma but he managed to battle back but can no longer perform his skills. He was always at war with his record company over musical differences and this contributed to less exposure, He was better thought of in America than in UK.
THE WEE BIG MAN IS WAN I THE BEST SINGERS IN THE WORLD AND GLESGA. HE ONLY LIVED TAE SING. THE WHOLE OF GLASGOW STEPPED BEHIND FRANKIE. HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING. HE STAMPED FOR GLASGOW. AND THE WHOLE OF GLASGOW FOLLOWED ON. WHY COS HE SANG THE RIGHT TUNEI

Nice one man, I gotta thank you for your contribution to Frankie's music, one of the best on youtube without a doubt.
please view, enjoy and comment on my two latest additions, "The Rose" and Baton Rouge", both from the "Long way Home " album...... spread the word... cheers
This is dedicated to all those annoying wannabees on X factor who go crying off with the slightest sore throat ...LISTEN UP, THIS IS WHAT A REAL VOCALIST SOUNDS LIKE!
@undunboater unfortunately it's hard to find but it's worth the trouble. I wish I could give you a pointer other than that I think it's on a album called ''Sticking to my guns''
@oscarittofi Thanks so much I will take a look.....heard that Etta version on blues radio station and been looking ever since.....Not to dissapointed now that I have Freddie's version....LOVE THAT SONG!!!!
@undunboater Done much earlier, in the late 70s or early 80s by Delbert McClinton on his album entitled "THe Jealous Kind" Etta did a straight copy. Frankie Miller's version is GREAT!

yes, i know what u mean, our tea is OOT! great sense of blues, and timing and blessed with the voice... he was agreat actor too... pity he left us too soon, like lots of others...this is very enjoyable, thanks for posting x
I love Ray and I love Delbert, but Frankie more consistently gets my blood up. In this song every note, every inflection, timing, phrasing shit you name it is just perfect. Right on lukessummer!
Can anyone tell me where I can get the studio version on disc. I bought the CD and it doesn't come with the bonus tracks. Bummer, my alltime favorite song now!
Easily the best vocal performance since Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" at Monterey Festival in '67. My pal Boab and I used to see Frankie Miller in The Stoics back in the late 60's in Sauchie and Alloa. Shit hot then, even better now. Rock on, wee man!
Good track but Joe Cocker's version is way better!

Fantastic white soul voice. Perhaps the best. Beautiful understated and soulful guitar playing from the great Ed Deane too.

Delbert McClinton had a pretty good run with this. I'm fond of everyone's version.

this is pretty faithful to the Joe Cocker version from Stingray. It's a hard call, they both sing it so well. I'll go with Frankie cos his is live.
