Wonderful, toda rabba! I hadn't though of Leroy Anderson for so many years - 40 or more... And then suddenly all the tunes were back in my mind again. (It was thinking about typewriters that did it!) As I have always loved Tom & Jerry, this was a perfect pairing. But it was nice to be reminded what a charming melody it is... What a pleasure, eze oneg - kol rega.
I played this song in my college's Symphony Band this past spring, & ever since then, this has been 1 of my favorite songs by Anderson. This is a very fun piece. From 1 cat lover to another, this is a true example of cat behavior.
Interesting interpretation, 'gozala'. I think you forgot the part at the very end where, despite trying to outrun him, the dog grabs the cat's tail, and pulls him towards his inevitable doom...I hope your students appreciated your vision of it!
I wonder what Hanna and Barbera could have done if they had been allowed to animate their own interpretation of "The Waltzing Cat" in the early '50s.....?
I wish another would interpret that music, I used to tell a story while it was played in school as a music teacher, it was about a party that a cat was doing while a mouse was watching, continued with a chase and when the mouse was cached the cat returned to his dance with the mouse in his hand, all that was finished with the dog's barking...
OMG I HATE MY GRAMMA

Are the meows and barks written into the score?

mhmm =] We're playing it for our spring musical.

How did you play it, are you playing in an orchestra? I am on a keyboard can't play it, I wish I could.
The meows are for the strings, the barks are real one (recordings).
gozala00 2 years ago
@gozala00 yep you are right, i just played it too with my orchestra :) but at the end after the crescendo part, a girl sang a beautiful "meoooow" :P
