Jesus they butcher one of my favorite prog songs.
They shouldn´t try to do yes, far to complicated. I mean come on Howe, Wakeman and Squire are virtuosos and technically top notch at their respective instruments.
Poor kids are so focused on playing their own hard part that they dont´t have any mental energy left to try to stay synchronized.
They should try to play some repetative proven chord progression pattern mainstream dull rock instead.
@1fisiu how do you expect them to learn by keeping them in the kiddie pool, throw em' in the deep end and they will learn swim . besides they looked like they were have a blast .
Really the criticism is foolish. The difficulty of this music is a testament to the craft of the original players. But these kids do a fine enough job. They should be proud at their efforts. Not many aspiring guitarists would want to have to tackle Steve Howe live. Or Chris Squire's bass lines. More than anything it is great to see this music passed on. When Bieber and Brittany are long gone this music will endure.
It's amazing that some people don't want a group of extraordinarily talented students even setting foot on stage unless they can play the tune as well as Yes. I'm gonna follow you guys around for a day and compare everything you do to the person who did it best, ever. That should be fun for you.
Anyone criticizing tempo or technique, come on these are students and kids - remember? How good of a rendition of this complex piece could YOU have done at at that age? (or now? HAH!)
btw, the guy post it as if the band were with jon anderson, but he doesnt appear here, the only vid in which school of rock and jon are together is when he performed with them "I've seen all good people"
I love seeing kids playing Yes music. I'm not sure if a lot of you appreciate how appropriate and cool that is. I'm an adult and I've tried playing some of these songs. I can assure you, there is almost not ONE easy part in any of their songs. Ok, maybe the intro to machine messiah. (for me the Yes that I love ends after Drama).
I agree w/ the first half of what you said. I love their early music so much, I wish I could play any of it. but my only resort is singing Jon's parts, and believe it or not, I'm considerably good at it...I know, I gotta prove it now, don't I..ayayay--ANYWAY, people my age playing YES is like a dream to me. anyone want someone who's inclined to sing Jon's role, let me know. preferably in the MA area, hehe..and btw a girl playing YES is as awesome as it gets..
here's the thing...i dont know any singer who sounds like jon anderson.. no1 can duplicate his voice...also..maybe they are trying to get their own sound with yes's m usic? unless u think u can outdo these teenagers then go film urself playing this stuff. I'm sure its a lot harder than u think
Yeah Larry! Im sure you are the maestro! Covering a Yes song especially this one is a pretty difficult thing to do. Why dont you post a video of you performing this song. These kids tore up the stage!
This is really good, you guys shure know how to play - and play very well. Its all there - all the notes, in the right place - and that is a HUGE thing, alone.
But i think you missed 'the feel' of the song. It takes more than the right notes - knowing how to play them (to put the feel into it) its just as important.
Hoping to make constructive criticism, anyway. Anyone who says you suck doesnt know the first thing about music. This is some decent playing.
4 all you snobish guys!!! the moral of the vid is simple : cool kinds playing cool music and of course tributing the best Prog Rock Band of all times : YES !!!!!
Agreed; I hate these idiots who slam the kids in PGSOR vids as if they could have done better at that age...these are EXTREMELY difficult and complex pieces of music, and I'm jazzed that these kids are even playing them now...think of the alternative! They are helping keep the music alive. It's a SCHOOL and they are LEARNING so lighten up critics. (where are you're own videos of you playing, btw?)
Don't ever worry about criticism. The first lesson For kids is to find four other people willing and able to cover a Yes song. We started with 'And You and I' and Yes eventually took over our lives. If you've ever done it you know how rewarding it is.
Not too bad for what they are, but Yes has nothing to worry about. Not Anderson, Howe, Squire, White or Wakeman. It's way too fast. They basically cut the song in half!
You managed to make Yes sound like generic throbbing club music, Bravo!
