  • People need to stop bashing the HSUS. I've known nothing but kindness from them, and the fact that people can't face is that THERE ARE TOO MANY DOGS. We can't find homes for them all and that's a fact. Some animals have to be euthanized. This is why people need to shut down puppy mills and buy from small breeders, or else many dogs will have to continue to be killed from over population.

  • I wonder how many of these dogs were euthanized? .... I guarantee you there were PLENTY... HSUS claims theres just not enough homes, not enough money to care for them.. Did you know HSUS doesnt even own ONE dog shelter yet takes in an AVERAGE of around $200,000,000.00 TWO HUNDRED MILLION $ a YR!.. If u take someones animals under the PRETENSE of rescue, U ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CARE!. U dont dump them off on some other OVER CROWDED shelter where many will be euthanized HSUS SHAME!

  • Oh my goodness. No dog or animal should EVER be born to such horrible conditions. Animals are born to love and care for their owners. Not to be breed over and over and be abused. They're helpless and they can't speak. They may bark, and you may think that's annoying. But that doesn't give you a damn right to beat it. It's their instinct. They're trying to warn you. Animals have a voice you just have to understand them.

  • I can't believe a human can treat an animal like this just for money. It breaks my heart to see the condition of the adult dogs. There are so many people out there that have no clue what a puppy mill is. We need to educate the public on this horrific subject. My Daughter is doing her senior project on puppy mills and we are doing a bake sale for the humane society to raise as much money for this horriable subject.

  • When HSUS raided this "puppy mill", where did they take the dogs ? HSUS doesn't even have a shelter.

  • This woman now has been caught operating a puppy mill in washinton county ohio

  • many times they will take them to a rescue...who then places them in foster homes while they are being treated and socialized, then they are adopted out to forever homes.

  • @patteel they actually set up a temp shelter and once all the animals were seen by a vet and treated, they were handed over to rescues, shelters, and even adopted out right after this happened... My mother has 3 of them that was rescued... i lived just 5 miles down the road from this place and i had to drive by it ever day... the woman herself was not very hygenic which explains the housing for the animals...

  • @CowboyStud092984 The point of my post is they take all the credit when in fact the vets are volunteers and the dogs are given to rescue groups and local shelters without the cash to pay for their care. Then HSUS uses the video they make of them "removing" the dogs to beg for money. Check out The Center for Consumer Freedom (Haiti) PETA kills and the HSUS kills puppies sites . Rescues dislike HSUS and PETA but sometimes they have to go along with them because of the power they have built up.

  • this is horrifying, I have a cavalier king charles ( one of the breeds they mentioned that abounded in the mill) and I couldn't imagine her suffering like that. I can't believe that people buy dogs from pet shops when they know where they come from! And for those who don't know - it's your responsibility to educated yourself before getting a dog!!

  • That is just horrible!!!

  • The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated

    -Mahatma Gandhi

  • Omg don't the puppies stay with their mum's? Damn, I can imagine it does smell. Poor dogs.

  • Note to the rescuers- YOU GUYS ROCK!

1000 dogs won the lottery that day. Way to go!

  • please come to china and save all the poor dogs here. Their condition are the same. I couldn't stand it to see how they beat the dog with a stick. They also take the baby from the mother when they are very young, same like u see in the vid. PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE....

  • BLESS YOU HSUS! My boyfriend is one of the vets assisting in the health care of these precious animals. I've got friends and family who want doxies........Thanks to you these animals will now have a decent happy life!

    3 Cheers!

    Rhonda

  • lottybs has a lotta BS to talk about. HSUS went in because the local animal control has reports of injured animals on her property. And since when is "health" a term applied only to a physical state? I thought health was a balance between mental and physical! Also the dogs are "well fed" because they spend all there time in wire bottom cages (hence their cleanliness) getting no exercise. Community involvement?! What have you done for your community? Sat behind a computer and blogged all day?

  • Quote from the article ---

Berry said the dogs at the kennel were not in life-threatening

situations, and she worked along with veterinarians to fill out health

certificates. They were well fed, somewhat social, with very few

    health problems.<<<<

No, but thanks for asking. I have been doing the things I suggested in here. I go talk to vets, animal shelters, pet shot shops, etc. about setting up pet education days, pet of the week days and other things along that line. How about you?

  • hmm.... perhaps you should go to your local KILL shelter & volunteer. Maybe, just maybe, then it will become clear to you about how much these puppymills NEED to be stopped...

ALSO: I do NOT support BSL's... I am fighting those tooth & nail!!

  • Glad to hear you are fighting BSL. I'm aware they need to be stopped. I'd like to see more places do the way it has been done in my area. They don't go to kill shelters. granted we've never had one around here on this scale I'm glad to say. They are sold here through a sheriff's sale. All buyers have to be pre screened before they can get a buy number. All have to be s/n, and buyer's sign court papers to do so and to get any vet care needed that hasn't already been done while awaiting the sale.

  • In the court papers you agree to provide proof of care by the county at any time during their life with you. You can't sell or give them away. If it doesn't work out, you contact the sheriff and depending on your reason, will get a refund or not. They take the dog back and rehome it unless it has serious health or aggression issues. Those ones will be euthanized. I just see better ways to handle these things than sending them to kill shelters.

  • This just makes me want to cry... I want so much to adopt one or two of these pups- to just save them all... Those poor little things..!!!

  • I will always fight against HSUS. The bad they do far outweighs the good. The good they do is a means to and end. When asked if he envisioned a future without pets: "If I had my personal view, perhaps that might take

hold. In fact, I don't want to see another dog or cat born." Wayne Pacelle quoted in Bloodties: Nature,

Culture and the Hunt by Ted Kerasote, 1993, p. 266. "Animals for the most part just need to be left alone." Wayne Pacelle, President of the

    HSUS, LA Times, 07- 19-08

  • your an idiot

  • Let's see..I posted constitutional rights should not be violated, communities, shelters, and lawmakers should work together on laws and animal education, gave info about Maddie's fund, and pointed out that this seizure was in violation of federal seizure law. Oops..the other post should say "pet shops" If guess if those things make me an idiot, I'm proud to be one.

  • people need to learn animals are not disposable. I've heard the city/state officials do nothing, shelters are filthy, and people dump their dogs and pups on shelter doorstep, shelters have no funding. What you are saying is the community have no respect for each other, so how can they have respect for their animals? The community allowed her kennel to get that big because it doesn't sound like you work together AS a community.

  • I do not condone anyone owning the number of dogs she had, but ARists with ridiculous legislation is what is killing dogs. Maybe if you weren't too wrapped up in how many are coming in, you would get in the trenches with those of us who are working to stop the REASON shelter kills are going up. Maybe you would know how the shelter systems play the shell game to move them around shelter to shelter to GET kill numbers up in some shelters.HSUS is driving the movement along with PETA

  • The vets reported to the press that NONE of the dogs were removed from a life threatening situation and all were well fed and in good health. In order for animal seizure to take place, the animals have to be in a life threatening situation, and then ONLY those in danger can be removed. Whether you or I like it, the vets say this was not the case. There are some lawyers looking into it now on a pro bono case possibility. If it exposes HSUS.great! She won't get the dogs back

  • No Ma'am. I am caught up in fighting an organization who is working hard to make sure none of us can have pets. If you think large operations like this are the only ones they are closing down and stealing from, you're wrong. They make sure everyone sees when they hit a large operation like this, but they are doing it to people who don't even breed. Some are private owners and some are rescues and the use the same MO as this one. If 200 were put down they may have a problem..to be continued

  • Lottybs - It seems your caught up with how HSUS is conducting business, I'm more concerned on the fair treatment of animals. The problem is there are no laws governing how people treat animals. The truth is MOST pupply mill breeders don't take good care of their animals. If these dogs were so well taken care of, why were 200 euthanized??? I dont' necessary support the HSUS, I support the animals. You obviously are too caught up in the organization itself rather than the animals.

  • Obviously the people who have posted here that see nothing wrong with what this woman is doing don't own pets or are just as bad as this lady. Puppy Mills are no different than manufacturers. There's a big difference and it's obviously a waste of breath with ignornant people such as yourself.

  • JEN1266: It's you who don't get it. It isn't about whether I think anyone should own this many dogs. It's about truth, lies, and theft. HSUS doesn't know how to tell the truth. They lie and they steal and do it for more money than this woman will ever see from her dogs. Like it or not, the law says the dogs are her property. She didn't abuse them BY LAW. This was just another ploy for HSUS to push towards NONE OF US to have and love our pets. They want them gone. Period.

  • If the fumes are so strong, why isn't the exhaust fan running? If the kennels are filthy, why are they not wearing protective clothing and masks? If it's so hot, why aren't the workers sweating or the dogs panting excessively? If all the dogs checked out healthy, well fed, and sociable, what right did anyone have to go there and coerce them with threats of jail and felony charges of abuse and neglect? It's not about how many dogs, but fraud and coercion and an HSUS photo op

  • Have some of you lost your mind??? If you think this is the way animals should be treated, why don't you try living in a cage with little food and water? These animals are used strictly for profit. No the dogs aren't dirty and wagging their tails isn't a sign they're happy with their conditions, there darn happy to be rescued by someone. Private property??? Since when is a living, breathing creature a commodity? I just can't believe these posts from clueless people

  • Yes, they are private property and that property was stolen. Seems there are already a few lawyers looking into a pro bono case since it was released the animals are healthy, well fed, sociable and removed from their owner under duress of felony charges of abuse and negelect. Yes, she had a lot of dogs, but according to the law and the constitution they were her property and they werenot ebing abused or neglected by federal welfare standards.

  • I guess this will help pump up the number of purebred dogs claimed to be turned in to shelters. I find it pretty judgmental of some people who have not looked at a single breeder's report from this woman can know without a doubt that all dogs in this kennel were bred constantly. Can you also tell us by way of your telepathy (and that of the HSUS) how many puppies each one has had? Did your telelpathy also tell you the lady has vet records showing all her dogs were UTD on shots? She does.

  • OMG. Have you EVER volunteered in a kill shelter? OBVIOUSLY not, if so, you would realize that they do NOT need puppymill busts to get purebred dogs. I volunteer in a SMALL TOWN, middle of nowhere shelter, and the number of purebred dogs put down every week....it is just staggering. I see purebred dogs ranging from labs, beagles, doxies, poodles, collies, border collies, boxers, pitbulls, great danes, greyhounds, etc...the truth is..humans (like yourself) are ignorant & supporting this problem!

  • Do you know where each and every dog came from at the shelters you worked at? Can you say unequivically none came from those busts? From breed bans? From pet limit laws? From mandatory spay neuter (instead of low/no cost)? These are what are pushing up numbers of purebred and mixed both. They are also what is decreasing adoptions. Before you call others ignorant, so some research on what is being done to increase numbers over irresponsible breeding!

  • Well, being that I AM the transport/rescue/adoptions coordinator, I KNOW where the dogs come from, I see thier intake forms.

And this county does NOT have breed bans, we do not have mandatory spay/neuter. most of these are owner surrenders, or strays,or pups dropped off by people from thier unspayed dogs.

The HSUS does a LOT of good. They have helped with SEVERAL dogs at our shelter who needs vet work. That is where public donations go. I went to help on this bust. I live an hour away.

  • Some of the dogs were as young as one day old. **Then

please make an emergency contribution today to support our rescue operation.**

Tragically, hundreds of thousands of dogs still suffer at the

hands of this industry that traps them in a dismal cycle of suffering. These

are the animals our rescue teams are trained to save.Thank you for all you do for animals.

    Sincerely,

  • This was a snippet from the H$U$ letter, which was too long to post here, requesting funds more than once. NOT an endorsement of H$U$'s unlawful stealing of someone's property!! Criminals...all of them!!

I'd love to know where they are "warehousing" those dogs and puppies! WHO is caring for and watching over them? Please keep 'em away from Ingrid, PETA and the dumpsters. "PETA Kills" and they like it!

  • What ammonia?? I smell a CROOK! I see overcrowding, but they all look clean, well fed, and friendly to me. This person broke no laws. H$U$, keep your hands off of other people's property! Friends don't let friends give to H$U$.

  • Um if you call this humane living conditions you must be a nra deer hunter who could give a shit less anyway.

That aside are you to ignorant to realize there saying theres a strong smell of pee in the air where it's been allowed to fester. pee contains the strong smell of ammonia thus why he said the smell was overwhelming from lack of proper conditions to control waste removal.

  • You must be right..I guess that's why it was reported by one of the workers helping the examining vets fill out health certificates said the animals all checked out to be well fed, healthy and sociable...because they were living in those horrible conditions! (That was sarcasm) and yes I do like deer meat..and beef, pork and chicken too!

Hmm, and I would have expected to hear they were wracked with respiratory infection from the strong ammonia fumes.

  • Looks like H$U$ is grasping at straws here! They must need donations and this emotion based video is just the ticket.

Overcrowded YES, abused, neglected, undersocialized NO!! I wouldn't trust their counting abilities either. A 1000 count is meant to evoke sympathies and DONATIONS!

There is nothing "Humane" in H$U$! They don't own an animal or run shelters. That would be hypocritical to the "Master Plan" of NO animals. They are both "Political Machines"

    Those owners should SUE!!

  • I have just reviewed the tape again. There is not a single animal dirty, underweight or depressed. Do I approve of a (so called) 1,000 animal puppy mill NO! Do I approve of H$U$ staging a "bust" to solicit funding THAT WILL NOT GO TO THESE ANIMALS NO! Contrary to H$U$ and PETA PR there is a shortage of desirable puppies. No question that H$U$ will under the guise of "rescue" confiscate the now-valuable pups of commercial breeders. No fan of commercial breeders but suppor the US Constitution.

  • OK so the opening line is "I think we should take all the full-term pg ones."

Is it just me or does this sound like those used car ads with the guy in the cowboy hat and polyester suit. "Come on down...." What BS. Soon, I hope really soon, the public will come to know HSUS for what it really is and stop donating to them and focus on animals in their local communities and not fund the extremist animal rights agenda of PETA and HSUS. Yes they are in the same camp.

  • I agree with many that the puppies looked happy and healthy. The newborn pups were in a clean area and looked like contented newborn pups. All the dogs looked happy, healthy and people oriented. . Not only do I not give the HSUS, I don't give to any of the organizations they own, like the Doris Day Foundation, or Save the Whales.

  • Wow, what a publicity stunt. I agree, too crowded and I would not recommend this situation for any dog, but I don't see what laws were broken?? And when did the H$U$ become an arm of the law? You know H$U$ has already sent out a plea for donations to care for the animals. Maybe they can use all those *deferred funds* from Katrina???

I hope the "Commercial Breeder" sues them for their stolen property!

  • Yes they are way to crowded. But who is thin? I dont see any afraid , matted or sick. If its 100 degrees why arent the dog panting and the worker sweating? All i see is covered dogs and indoor dogs. All fat ,all friendly . I even saw toys in one cage. WHy the HSUS? Why not local animal control? I dont approve of the conditions. But what was the law they broke? Were the owners allowed to comply FIRST ? For a more clear video i went to the Humane Societys page

  • It was in the upper 90's in that area that day. I live close to this shelter.

The local animal control does not have the funds, workers, supplies, or space needed to do this bust. Local dog warden & humane officers have wanted to bust this place for a few years, but never had the public backing them, luckily they got ahold of the right rescues!

  • You sure did! If your goal is to increase shelter intake. From everything I have heard and read on this story, from comments concerning the shelter system in the state, and what you have just written yourself, you addressed what is causing your problems with animal owners, breeders, and sheltering in your state. You don't need HSUS to accomplish what needs done. You need what all communities do. Respect between community, shelters & city officials & education and...

  • First, i don't live in WV. I live in Ohio. I dont' volunteer at parkersburg. I volunteer at a shelter in southern Ohio.

I just happen to know a lot of people who rescue and I work with one of the directors of the HS in that area!

Sadly MANY counties don't have the community supporting them. this is why I want to END puppymills, and get more people to adopt & spay/neuter! I will no longer argue with you. You are set on downing the HSUS, I am here for one reason and that is to save dogs.

  • If communities don't work together amongst themselves, things will only get worse. Doesn't matter whether you live there or not. You said you were working with them? Going in and helping move dogs and not finding ways to work with the dog owners instead of against each other will not solve anything. The community has always had the power to keep control..all communities, not just yours, mine or theirs. Education, leash laws, welfare laws, and law enforcement of those laws. Was it you who said..

  • that they wanted to close her down a long time ago? Did they try to work WITH her to cut down or did they try to push her to do it? Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Physics. If you push people, their reaction is to push back. You push MSN, people fight it. You ask them to do it and offer them a way to accomplish it, S/N goes up and shelter intake goes down. Pass BSl & you punish innocent people and dogs and they fight back. You punish the deed and people help. Intake drops.

  • If you want to get kill rates down, you apply for things like Maddie's Fund grants. It's there to help shelters work on low/no cost s/n programs to encourage voluntary altering of pets. The first grant is $40,000. What would that do to help your shelter? Used as intended, the grant amount gets larger to help improve your shelter system towards no-kill. You pass MSN, you don't qualify. Many ways to do good without alienating pet owners. Educational seminars, adoption day, pet of the week..

  • Thieves! While this breeding operation is far too large,in my personal opinion, it's clear from the video that the dogs and puppies are in excellent health, clean and well-fed. They have shelter, they are not cringing or afraid; in fact, they look friendly and happy. The "rescuers" are going to sell these dogs and puppies for a lot of money: it's a profitable situation for them. What gives them the right to take a citizen's property like this? Their actions are unconscionable.

  • DO not give money to the HSUS . They did not do the right thing with the money for KATRINA. Donate to your local Animal control

  • @spot90808 actually they did help the dogs from katrina

  • @spot90808 What do you mean? What did the HSUS do with the money?

  • @spot90808

They did exactly what They were supposed to do. You need to look up your info correctly before saying shit. By the way before you say that I have no info. My sister was down there during that! They did what they could. Get over yourself and let the past go!

  • Why can't people get real jobs instead of being lazy and forcing these imprisoned dogs to breed and pay their way? Disgusting. Puppy mill owners should be jailed.

  • I also have to note that I've never seen a happier, bouncier looking bunch of dogs and pups who are purportedly 'suffering'. Maybe it's time people look at the dogs themselves and and listen to THEM insteading of what you are being spoon fed by a group with a no-pet agenda. I do not personally believe anyone should have this number of breeding dogs, but Animal Control and HSUS need to have proof of abuse before removing animals from anyone..including YOU. Unless theres a limit, she broke no law.

  • If it's so great. why don't you live there? Puppy mills are HORRID! The animals live in horrible, inhumane conditions, are overbred, and suffer numerous health and behavioral issues. The only reason the puppies are jumping is not for the "joy" of living in a crowded wire cage on a wire floor (with no REAL shelter that is A/C or heated, but for the attention and to try to get out of there. Read up on puppy mills-of course there is a horrid ammonia stench and abuse. Please become more informed.

  • Continued from my previous post: If the stench in the puppy house was so bad, why were workers not wearing gloves or masks and why did all the puppies being handed over and putin crates appear clean and fat? Not even their feet were dirty! Face some facts folks. This woman has run her kennel in the same place for 47 years. Timing is everything when HSUS and other AR groups are trying to make points. They couldn't charge her with abuse so the made a call of pollution. They aren't the EPA!

  • While the kennel definitely needs downsized considerably, the gullibility of the public never ceases to amaze me. Not one dog or pup in that video appears unhealthy or neglected. All kennels had a roof overhead and not a dog appeared to be suffering heatstroke or dehydration. The facilities weren't fancy but all dogs were clean and none shown were in their own filth. The puppy house had outside runs off the whelping areas as pictured by the female standing in the doorway of hers.

  • If you currently own a pet and shop in a pet store that also sells puppies, PLEASE DO NOT SHOP THERE IN THE FUTURE! If you are outspoken enough also tell the manager of the store why you will not shop there in the future. We need to STOP patronizing stores which sell puppies. Anyway you slice it, these puppies are from mills no matter what the store managers tell you! If you are looking for a puppy please vist your local shelter or reputable breeder of pure bred dogs, Thank you!

  • wow... that sucks. i sure hope 1000 people step up and adopt them. i love dogs.

  • WE should all remember each time someone buys a puppy from a pet shop, they are feeding this madness. It is puppy mills like these that supply the pet shops. If we dont buy from teh pet shops, we kill the demand and therefore can stop this horrific abuse

  • I agree. There are many caring breeders out there who are VERY particular about who gets their puppies. Everytime I see dogs in a store, I can't help but think of puppy mills. I've had two rescue dogs who have been the most AMAZING pets.

  • this is ridiculous. whos responsible?????

    darkside monsters, thats who.

blessings to all those who helped.

  • aww poor dogs

  • It would really help if I could hear.
