@shadow80926 Damon Albarn and his collaborator in Gorillaz, cartoonist Jamie Hewlett (who also created Tank Girl, but that was probably before anybody currently alive was born) created an opera with Chen Shi-zheng based on Journey to the West. Hewlett and Albarn created this sequence for the BBC to use to introduce coverage of the Beijing Olympics. The sequence titled Journey to the East uses characters from the opera. There is an album of the music - you can learn all about this on Wikipedia

Dragon Ball was based off Journey to the West, an old chinese tale my father used to tell me all the time when i was a child. journey to the west is at least 5,000 years old

@MasanoriFukushima It very well could be that some of the folk tales that are incorporated into Journey to the West are very ancient, but the novel was based on an actual pilgrimage to India of the Buddhist monk Xuanzang between 626 and 645. The novel itself was written almost a thousand years later.

Your right, around 500 years ago. Still pretty old. Journey west is Taoism/ Buddhism.

@MasanoriFukushima It's based on 玄奘, who lived in the seventh century during the Sui Dynasty. While some parts of it are taken from oral tradition and may be older, 5,000 years is a bit too optimistic. ;)
