Marty Wilson-Piper came over to my place the other day and took my entire record, tape, video, magazine and book collection. I just wanted to be free from all the music I've been carrying around for years and have it be taken by the right person. Marty is the right person, and so is his museum 'In Deep Music Archive' (do a google). If I hadn't watched this clip, I would still be stuck with my record collection....
Love Marty.....always have and always will. Used his song, Forever as the first dance with my bride/ wife at our wedding...............and our second daughters name is Terra [think "Terra Nova Cain].......just a couple of examples. Ever seen the video Goldfish, Magic, somthing...something or something like that? Some funny clips of him having fun with Steve [Kilbey]. Good stuff..........going to go get some of these records...thanks MWP...you rock!
This would have to be the best WIMB yet! How knowledgeable and natural is Marty. Very engaging. I too wish the interview was longer. Am now going to iTunes to listen to The Church.
I just want to point out that if this is Martys channel I want to say that there has been talk about a brown dwarf in our solar system cming our way but I spect your thinking whats this got to do with record collections well after listening to Outshine The Sun by All About Eve who wrote those great lyrics? They must of been as psychic as Nostradama cos are they singing about Comet or Brown Dwarf Elenim? Outshie the sun do you get it? do the research now
Before this video I'd never even heard of the Church. I just watched it because I like the What's in my Bag? feature. It's one of my favourite one's so far, Willson-Piper picked some really interesting records and was pretty engaging. Seems to know his stuff. Also, his band sound great. So I enjoyed this video and have found a new band because of it. Cheers Amoeba!
Sailcat, Jack Davis album cover art, cool! Marty Willson-Piper is so much more fun than Peter Murphy at Amoeba...I mean he's in the vinyl section for starters, then his whole stack is obscure and interesting stuff. Murphy looks like he's been spoon fed CD's from the College Music Playlist from Rolling Stone.
I can sit and watch the "What's in my bag?" videos for hours on end - I just wish we had Amoeba in the UK - I spend my life in there buying vinyl but instead it's just good old ebay for me :(
That Renaissance album is kinda lame by today's drug standards, but still cool. I like that he was looking at Big Star at the beginning, too. And FUCK pavement.
he is really a record collector... :D

It's nice to see our favorite musicians just being unabashed music fans.

During a live set, Kilbey said "It's a little known fact that Marty has one of the largest collections of prog rock known to man"
