Only 12 were *perfect*, she didn't make it completely up on the last rep. Very impressive though! As a suggestion she can try the bar suspended on chains in the power rack... it takes away the leg assist effect completely!
@TheCrazyPurpleLlama I agree, if the only factor that where different was weight not the muscle/bodyweight ratio then it would be a different story. It's definitely a lot more to do with the muscle composition! But people like megatron like to have a way to explain away someone else's success ;)
You need to do them slower and not let yourself go down as much, this will cause joint pain and letting the biceps to relax. This is not what you want them to do, you need them to be under stress during the workout. Two seconds up and two seconds down.
it is great you can do so much for a girl but the thing is when you straiten your arms fully when you go down there is no point continuing doing chin ups because every time you straiten your arms muscles relax and you wont gain any muscle mass !! just a tip!!
Holy Cats! So tired of seeing guys rep out useless 'half-chins' -- you almost never see (a) full chins or (b) girls who can aren't using the Gravitron. You go, girl!!
I feel ashamed lol. But for the posters here that are having trouble with chin-ups/pull-ups, one thing that helped me get my first pull up was negative pull-ups; start from the top of the chin-up (use a spotter; no spotter? use a chair/stool etc), control your descent to the bottom over the course of 6-8 seconds. In 6 weeks, i went from not even being able to lift myself, to doing 4 full pull-ups at a time ( my form still needs work though).
@Lyoofa I did the neg pull-ups once a week alongside shrugs, rows, curls, and deadlifts. 4reps/4sets and extra reps just to push forward a little bit; rest period was a minute for the first couple of weeks. As soon as you can do the first one, keep adding them into your sets. Also, try not to drop at the end of the rep; I'm still very weak from a deadhang (not to mention, i've been eating junk and not keeping it up haha).
@1x0randomdude0x1 Thanks for the advice! I was curious about how others go about building up a base of endurance/strength. So far I've been using the assisted pull-up machine and I've got the wt. level set @ about a 45, so I figure I have a long way to go still :S By "once your can do the first one" do you mean once I can do a full pull-up? That's definitely my goal but the progress seems so slow, even if I'm doing the negatives once a week :\ I work 1 musc. group/week so I do p-ups on back day!
@Lyoofa Yeah, it's keeping your workouts barely manageable and constantly increasing weight/reps etc. You'll get to the first one eventually, just keep it up :D.
Doesnt have to do much with strenght more like endurance. Note that her bodyweight is 2 times the half of that of an adult male. So its easyer for her to do more chinups cause she doesnt have to lift alot of weight. But still good going.
That's very impressive, especially for such a pretty girl, which just strengthens the value of this video as an ANCHOR and benchmark, and point of comparison and contrast. I wonder how much she can do with a one handed lat pulldown ( to make comparisons with one handed pull ups ) ?
yes they are full pull ups, i practice my pull ups everyday, thats how i do that many. i usually do 25 leg lift pul up, 3 ests of em but on my last 2 i do 15 and 10 leg lift pul up.
trust me dude i am not fat nor big buff guy but slim and sort of muscular.
@Mrrunescapeaddict100 good- it's anoying how many people think going from 90 degrees is a pull up...
Since you can do so many, It would probably be a good idea doing them uneven, get a rope or towel and hang it over one side of the bar, as you get better, lower your grip- do it for both arms!
@Mrrunescapeaddict100 I didn't word it very well- but now you can do 25, you're not going to get anything out of doing them, exept bigger numbers.
If you want to get stronger, and work towards the one arm pull up- you've got to increase the load on your arms, so with the towel, one arm would grip that, the other the bar, and since the towel is giriped lower than the bar, the other arm will get stronger- do it with both arms though (each set has left arm and right arm hanging of the towel)
Good job, but control on the way down next time. Don't "pop" your shoulders at the bottom.... keep about an inch off of a dead hang. Dead weight on your shoulder socket is bad, and over time will mess you up.
Wow. Sexism is still rampant according to these comments.
Chinups/pullups by a girl is much more impressive than a guy because guys have more weight and muscle in their upper bodies. Girls have more weight in their lower bodies so this is much harder. Fantastic work.
@misstinwhistle ... Cite your goddamn source for that brilliant piece of urban myth. Guys are heavier, that means it's easier for them. Yep, makes sense.
@Deetozine He could have worded that better. He was saying, "Men have stronger upper bodies," and "Women have stronger lower bodies." And yes, that is how our bodies are structured.
Note the hand positioning. To begin working of pull-ups, this is the most ideal. 13 wide grip military with full arm extensions would be pretty impressive.
@spiderman1321 im a pretty big troll but you sir are a much bigger troll. If your not trollin then your foolin urself cos shes doing them better than most guys i see doing at the gym. Respect when respect is due
@mrsolofeo Where do you see her using her body momentum? She is tightening her core on the last couple of reps to help her squeeze her back muscle harder. there is a no cheating going on here.
she is not using momentum & lifting herself up, great job! Neutral grip, supinated & probated grip are all resistance based & challenging so no reason for the hate
It doesn't matter if she's doing them wrong or right...she's still DOING THEM so deal with it. If YOU don't have a video showing better but commenting hate like a loser...that just proves your a loser. Snap.
It's great work and I'm really proud of her. If she has a nice attitude and good personality would love to meet her. I bet a good woman (as she may be) could work out in the gym and also work out in the kitchen so don't put her down fellas....I remember when I could do 13 pullups...and I still work out a little to this day....so she got me beat with the pull ups...it's a fact. I'll try later today but I only do 30 push ups so 13 pull ups ain't gona happen I don't think. Peace!!!
very good lift. all i can do is recommend bending your knees more. it helps to keep you from "kipping." the more strict form will help to keep your abs/legs from doing the lift. also adding weight helps.
Cool! The highest I ever got was 11, and that was with a pause in between the last 2 or 3. I'm out of shape, so now I can only do 6 pullups, but I'm hoping to get my butt back in gear and start working them again. I'd like to be able to get 20 one day.
@GameOf2Halves You can't just say which ones are harder. For instance for me the neutral grip is easier and if that's the way she always does her pull ups then it's probably easier for her too. But hey I'm a freak so I'm just one of those exceptions that there always are. I curl with the inside handles too because I think it's easier than than the outside handles of an easy curl bar. Most people I hear think inside is harder so more freakishness. BTW she could probably two more with a hang rest
@GameOf2Halves it depends on witch is easier between different people on which muscles are stronger then the others i might find one sort of pull up easier and someone might find it harder
For all of you saying "it's not impressive because she's going faster than a snail's pace, and her feet are rocking back and forth an inch or two," you need to stop being jealous. Just because a female has out-balled you, doesn't mean that you have to try to overcompensate by insulting her form. I'm not sure why some of you seem to think that a super slow rep is the way to become strong. The CNS is engaged by powerful exertions of force, and that's the most efficient way to gain strength.
@Fordragon at last someone who knows what he's talking about. i'm tired of all those ignorant fools bitching because you don't look like a robot doing an exercise and you actually try to be explosive as you should. 70's bodybuilding training philosophies and muscle mags have ruined everything. SO many misinformed people it makes me sick
Impressive, but to call them "perfect" I think she should focus more on the negative side of the reps, slowly going down, instead of falling most of the way.
@newcaptivate As long as you control the descent enough to not injure your elbows or shoulders, then you actually don't need to go down slowly. From the videos that I've seen from this "JasonFerruggia" guy, he seems to focus a lot on muscular power. Going down slow is just a waste of oxygen and phosphocreatine. It's good if you want to be a bodybuilder, because you get time under tension and the fiber tearing effects of a good eccentric contraction, but these were perfect pullups for strength.
This is an excellent showing of pulling strength. I don't see how anyone can dislike this video. Checkout grapplegrip pull ups you might be interested in trying them . Great Job
@GameOf2Halves chin ups are "easier" to do at first because they use the biceps more, which are more developed in most ppl. but for me pullups are a lot easier now. i admit i do them more, but in general, i believe back muscles and triceps (which are recruited more with pullups than chinups) have more potential to improve, so you can get more reps more easily. chinups is a bit of an unnatural movement and also feels like that for me.
@driver6969 Driver you say tricepS, but it's only the long heads which aid in shoulder extension right? So I guess the plural is okay since there's a long head on each arm...
Actually nah, tri means 3 heads, so if it's just the long head.... I actually don't know what to call it, we don't really have individual names for the tri/bi in the arm like we do with the quadriceps or biceps femoris do we? =(
@Nyanih Really? That doesn't match my experience anyway. Palms facing are easier for me as my biceps are well & truly activated compared to the other two. Strongest position for me, that's what I know.
@GameOf2Halves The reason that neutral grip is easier for a lot of people is because a supinated grip involved a lot of biceps strength, and a pronated grip involves a lot of lat strength. A neutral grip is basically as it says- in the middle between the two. It's easiest to do a movement that is being done using multiple muscles that assist each other.
@sphinxman90 There's already an existing definition of average. Go to the gym and keep an eye on the pullup bars for a while. Most guys can't do more than 4 or 5 dead hang pullups with ANY grip. Even the ones who claim to be strong (the "I bench 225, brah" guys) can't do more than a couple.
@Fordragon That is true, I have seen those types at the gym and many gym that I have been a member of. True she is doing the easier type of pull-ups, still impressive for a woman.
@JasonFerruggia These are WAY easier than both chins/pullups... for me at least. and thats what you see most people at the gym doing so therefore its easier, because people tend to go for the easiest of exercies verses the harder ones
AWESOME!! I'm a girl too and worked very hard to do my first chinup. I can't wait for the day to be able to do this much... I'm afraid it won't be soon but it will come:)

Great job! Perfect form!

@GameOf2Halves chin ups are "easier" to do at first because they use the biceps more, which are more developed in most ppl. but for me pullups are a lot easier now. i admit i do them more, but in general, i believe back muscles and triceps (which are recruited more with pullups than chinups) have more potential to improve, so you can get more reps more easily. chinups is a bit of an unnatural movement and also feels like that for me.
driver6969 1 year ago
@driver6969 Driver you say tricepS, but it's only the long heads which aid in shoulder extension right? So I guess the plural is okay since there's a long head on each arm...
Actually nah, tri means 3 heads, so if it's just the long head.... I actually don't know what to call it, we don't really have individual names for the tri/bi in the arm like we do with the quadriceps or biceps femoris do we? =(

@GameOf2Halves
Actually, most people find neutral grip pullups to be the easiest form, easier than chinups even.
Nyanih 1 year ago
@Nyanih Really? That doesn't match my experience anyway. Palms facing are easier for me as my biceps are well & truly activated compared to the other two. Strongest position for me, that's what I know.
GameOf2Halves 1 year ago
@GameOf2Halves The reason that neutral grip is easier for a lot of people is because a supinated grip involved a lot of biceps strength, and a pronated grip involves a lot of lat strength. A neutral grip is basically as it says- in the middle between the two. It's easiest to do a movement that is being done using multiple muscles that assist each other.

@GameOf2Halves Not that I'm arguing with you, or anything. I was just explaining what "Nyanih" was saying.

@JasonFerruggia
Nearly three times more than the average adult male is capable of doing
Really? Define Average please
sphinxman90 1 year ago
@sphinxman90 There's already an existing definition of average. Go to the gym and keep an eye on the pullup bars for a while. Most guys can't do more than 4 or 5 dead hang pullups with ANY grip. Even the ones who claim to be strong (the "I bench 225, brah" guys) can't do more than a couple.
Fordragon 1 year ago
@Fordragon That is true, I have seen those types at the gym and many gym that I have been a member of. True she is doing the easier type of pull-ups, still impressive for a woman.
sphinxman90 1 year ago
@JasonFerruggia These are WAY easier than both chins/pullups... for me at least. and thats what you see most people at the gym doing so therefore its easier, because people tend to go for the easiest of exercies verses the harder ones
