  • Looks like early 1980s to me. You know, I remember watching this but I had no idea at the time it was the Four Tops. Unfortunately, three of the four original members have passed away: Lawrence Payton in 1997, Obie Benson in 2005, and Levi Stubbs - the lead singer - in 2008. Only Abdul Fakir, standing to the left of the other three, is still alive.

  • What year and decade was this from?

Because i know one of the members died

  • I've been looking for this video for forever! Probably the most memorable song ever from Sesame Street for me. And I still sing it to myself when I'm waiting for the bus as an adult!

  • Love that reveal at the start!

  • Four Tops...LEGENDS. What great voices they have.

  • I SO remember this!!!

  • Black guys use to sing doo wop and harmonies on the street corner, not they just rap nonsense. Look how cool The Four Tops are, they way they took their coats on and twirled around stylin'. I like the little turn Lawrence Payton did at 0:15.

  • These young cats today can't sing a tune like Levi and The Tops. Wow, Levi's voice was so real, soulful, and passionate. No lip syncing, no technology making him sound better. He could sing how much is that doggie in the window or Old McDonald Had A Farm, and I would love it. These singers today have no soul.

  • haha big bird as the driver

  • hoots the owl sang this song on one of the sesame street albums

  • aw man i loved this song!!!

  • I always loved this clip :) But who is who here? lol

    Levi is singing...I know.

  • i don't see how 1 person CAN dislike this...

  • 1 person DISLIKED this?! I guess 1 person missed the bus, eh?

  • if they had put this on wax back then, it would have gone platnum!!

  • I haven't seen this since I was little. I thought it was always the Temptations singing this song.

  • This is the best Four Tops song ever!

Frankly, nowadays I take the buses to get around.

I take the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) buses.

I've been on bus route numbers 32 Forest Hills via Hyde Park Avenue, 39 Forest Hills via Huntington Avenue, (Boston) 214/216 Hough's Neck via Germantown, Quincy), 215 Ashmont Station via West Quincy, (Quincy to Boston), 230 Montello Commuter Rail (Brockton) to Quincy Center.

  • saw these guys live twice in the 70's

they could sing about shit in a bucket and make you wanna eat it

Levi - truely one of the greatest soul voices of the20th centuary

    god bless you all

  • Levi and the Tops rock even on Sesame Street. How cute!!

  • doo wop

  • At 1:54 he said "Now sing it with me Tops," and they said "sure will."

  • At 1:54, what did Levi Stubbs say? It sounded like he said "I said it with me Tops" or "Sing it with me Tops" but, I'm not sure what he said.

  • At 0:19, it looks like "The Four Top" all the way to the left on the end is either tired or not interested in starring in this skit for this song because, he yawned like he was either tired or bored where at the same time Levi Stubbs hand signaled to him not to do that. However, after Levi Stubbs hand signaled to him, I wonder what that meant when he was pointing to the left and what he was pointing too.

  • love the posting the ending cracks me up every time

  • Music when it was performed with CLASS! These gentlemen defined class, and their harmonies and style will almost certainly never be duplicated.

A real classic. Thanks for posting!

  • And what more? A song that I can use! :)

  • Thanks, this brings back a lot of memories.

  • levi doesn't have his trademark white and black beard/mustache so that's what throws me off on dating the timeline. he had it in 1985. levi looks the way he did in 1983 at motown 25.

  • It's no I'll Turn To Stone but it's a good'un.

  • What year was this from?

  • i love this song lol B.U.S.S.T.O.P wah ooh Bus Stop sign lol LMAO! this song cracked me up all the time as a toddler

  • let me find out the Four Tops take the bus too! and Big Bird drives it lol im kiddin but love this!

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I had been waiting for someone to do so for quite some time.

  • Man, this is too awesome. When they showed those blue suits, I damn near lost it.

    BTW, what year was this?

  • Sometime in the '80s I think. The Four Tops looked the way they did here during that decade.

  • My guess this skit was either in the year 1990 or 1991 because, I watched Sesame Street everyday and I remember seeing this skit either in the year 1990 or 1991. If I am wrong, then maybe it was in the 80s as you have mentioned where I must've missed watching a Sesame Street episode.

  • I remember seeing it in the late 80's. I love this song. BTW, That looks like a proto-type version of "Around the Corner."

  • R.I.P.: Lawrence Payton (1938-1997)

    Renaldo "Obie" Benson (1937-2005)

    Levi Stubbs (1936-2008)

Long Live Abdul "Duke" Fakir (1935-)--my all-time favorite Top!

  • I KNEW I didn't dream this up!! :-D

  • Fantastic Post!

  • Levi could sing the phonebook and it would sound great!

  • @kibbit1 I completely agree! His voice always gives me goosebumps..even on something slight like this. It was so effortless! One of my faves!

  • @kibbit1 I agree. I liked the Four Tops better than The Temptations. Levi will be missed.

  • THIS is what I was looking for!! This is awesome, I knew i didn't imagine it. I love the Four Tops, not many groups like them anymore sadly. Good song.

  • I remember this so well! Too funny!

  • What a great song. It's even more entertaining than I remembered. I think the Four Tops ought to have put this on one of their albums.

  • Haahaa I totally remember this clearly... I find it weird they put the coins in Big Bird's ass though LOL

  • I also remember this song. The first time I saw this skit was when I was 9 years old. Also, when I first saw this skit, I didn't know they were putting the coins in an invisible slot behind Big Bird, I thought they were just giving Big Bird a pat on the back to say hi.

  • Excellent!!!! I haven't seen this since 1986! Thank you for posting I thought no one would ever find this long lost classic. I'm from Detroit Michigan, Motown, and proud of our legendary Four Tops. This clip reminds me of the Detroit D-DOT bus stop service here in the City of Detroit. But Big Bird don't pick anybody up!

  • I am so happy to see new posted songs of my favourite group and especially Levi whom I miss so much ! God bless !

  • Oh, Shoot! I forgot about this.

I just sang along with this at my desk at work. (i remembered most of the lyrics)

    This made me smile =)

  • YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY! Looking for this for YEARS!

    LEGEND!

  • Kind of reminds me of "Standing In the Shadows of Love." Maybe that's what they were going for.

  • Hurray! It's back at last...thank you so very much :)

  • R.I.P. Levi Stubbs (1936-2008)

  • I remember this song.

  • Me too!
