Wow, I also noticed that the grid on the game is actually 1989, Not 2004. I sucked royally at this game on 200 laps, but I still love it, even though i can't get past Tero Palmroth's car without crashing out (Palmroth is #56, Black and Yellow car).

Lol, I got addicted to those games (especially the hidden episode Keen Dreams) when I saw my older cousin playing them. I caught him playing Indy 500 a year later, and you might say that I live on that game now. (a good strategy is to go on 10 or 30 lap, go the other way, and slaughter all the cars just like Castroneves)

Thanks for this, fabulously funny. Crashing in this game was the best, my favorite thing to do was start a big pile up on one side of the track then driving across to the other side and look from there how there were fountains of debris thrown into the air.

Great video! I loved this game and Stunts. I think the farthest I ever got in Indy 500 was around lap 70 before crashing into one of those pesky backmarkers.

Did anyone who played this back in the old 386 days ever manage to complete a actual Indy 500? I attempted a few times but always crashed and popped a tyre about mid way lol. Another good game from this time was stunts, you could even build you own track lol

Stunts was a huge hit with the fellas that made this video. We loved the physics bug that allowed the Indy Car to achieve maximum speed and fly indiscriminately through the air!

I won twice. In the Yellow Penske and the Blue March Cosworth. The red Lola Buick always blew up on me. I remember when I won the the Penske it was after recovering from a tyre blow out! 200 laps? easy!

I finished that race several times and once I won it with the Lola Buick because all the fast cars resigned with engine problems or sth similar. #70 was the 2nd.

the best part is mentioned by others already: the huge pileups.

This is surely one of the best sims all time... And real breakthrough of 3d.

I played this game a lot and learn to do some setups also. One of the best features in this game are huge pileups. I managed to wreck all 33 cars out of the race just on single crash :)

Thats my favourite PC game of the past. The field is from 89 race - car liveries are real. Yellow car is #4 Pennzoil Penske of Rick Mears. Player gets the same car with #17. Rich Vogler who qualified 33th isn't there - its player's place. If you can win the full 200 lap race (of course damage and yellows are on) you are tough. I have done it several times. My top lap speed is 239.42 mph. 4 lap average in qualifying - over 237. I haven't raced with wheel. I believe with the wheel its much easier.

Indy500 is one of the first games I played...that and Prince of Persia. Maybe the next video should feature some commentary on that old game.
