I say: Keep playing kid. Practice is the key to improvement. Work on your phrasing, try to make your licks say something instead of just being groups of notes, even if they fit into the music. Get out of the box & work on some lateral patterns, down & across & up and across type stuff. Never listen to the douchebags & keep on playin!

Your off to a good start but you need to work on your soloing. What might help you is to study as many different scales and arpeggios as possible and learn how to mix and match them more. Eddie van halen is excellent to study and learn from as with so many other greats out there.
