sure enjoy yourself its later than u think and reformations throw up all sorts of questions..what ive seen of the gigs..they sound great..however the big elephant in the room regarding The Specials is no Jerry Dammers..hes a key player here..i wish it could be sorted..just on Capt Crankys comment the Buzzcocks disappointed..i saw their first reformation in 1995 and they were fantastic..sometimes they work sometimes they dont..umm Mgazine are another example of nailing it during a reform.
I totally agree with devillpiss, it was a gig not 2 be missed and totally unexpected that they would be better than they were back in the day..who woulda thunk it? Seriously...they did not look or sound like silly old men..it was an absolute treat and the crowd went mental...we basked in nostalgia...forgot all our troubles and sang and danced to every track like we were teens again...it was like coming home..it was pure quality and magical. I'm sorry Jerry wasn't there 2, but I couldn't miss it.
so u went 2 c other bands reform but didnt try n get tickets for your favourite band.u aint no rudeboy health and saftey stops u going on stage now because they were 2500 rudeboys dying 2 go on that stage u missed out bigtime devillpiss knows dont argue.
I totaly agree with MOONSTOMP here, I have seen The Buzzcocks, The Stanglers, Madness, The Sex Pistols and The Doors (with Ian Astbury taking over from Jim Morrison) In the last few years. Every band I have mentioned was a total disapointment, I have so done with watching bands from the 60s 70s and 80s doing these gigs, you DO walk away wishing you had not botherd. They can not make the magic happen 30 years later, they should be rememberd as they were.
But devillpiss, I have watched so many bands what keep reformin and at first you are glad about it but then once you see them as old men tryin to do what they did so well all them years ago you look at them in a different way. You walk out of the place wishin you hadnt fuckin botherd. Ive done it loads of times and I dont want to do it with the Specials. Type in 'Skinhead moonstomp- the specials' Watch at the end when all the kids jump on the stage then compare it with this. Comes nowhere near.
I'm so upset about this! The Specials were the best band in the world. They have spoilt everything by doing this. I refuse to go and watch them. No way can it ever be like it was in the early days how can it be? This is nearly as embarrassin as the Pistols reformin, not as bad though John Lydon makes such a tit of himself now that it makes me feel sick, such a shame because he was so cool in the 70s. Never thought The Specials would do this. I see Jerry is not here, must have more sense.
call urself a specials fan guys like u wont b missed at the concerts fckn kid on rudeboy check the videos on you tube c what u fckn missed out on.best live band ever.
I did not realize they reunited. 2009 tour? Where? I live in Los Angeles. Will they be out here? I tried to go to the website...nothing. This video is fantastic!!!
So far a UK tour, an Australian tour, and a few dates in Japan. I'm not holding my breath about an American tour, although it would be great. I'll let you know how the Tokyo show is ;)
