Hey, would this be a good radio for some one who's just getting into radios? I'm looking for a quality 2 way radio primarily for outdoor activities. What radio would you recommend?
It's Yaesu's proprietary take on internet linked repeaters, kinda like IRLP/echolink. As far as I can tell, hardly anyone outside of Japan could give a crap.
It's easy to accidentally turn it on on Yaesu radios and it will proceed your transmissions with an access tone.
@DdraigX Hi! Sorry I didn't see your post for some reason. WIRES is Wide-coverage Repeater Enhancement System, with more info at bit dot ly slash 9x7daB
You can use it to access repeaters that are tied into the internet. I never use it, but I know others that do. An acquaintance that moved to another state still gets to participate in a local network using WIRES.
Fantastic video! You solidified my decision to purchase of this radio and I'm very happy with it!

Your reviews are great but in the way of one small correction: The FT-60R does in fact have WIRES.
