@fatlip66 Come on you guys, if you only knew... money is so small, compared to the story of what's happened here... do you not think everyone is human, after all? They used the name Queen to be recognized (as being confused about personal identity), not to cash in.
@dhpmathmusic It's really hard to explain this experience... they never wanted to replace Freddie and do something new just like that; on the other hand, it's just music, it is what they do. But they really felt connected with Freddie through the music, you could see their smiles were really something else. However, it's next to impossible to integrate this into everyday jargon. To me, it was like they were showing their bereavement, lack of closure, and at the same time transcending it
can i just point out paul nailed the note on "fighting" in the first chorus in we are the champions, something freddie rarely did unfortunately. You can't deny paul is amazing. Saying that, Freddie was also pretty amazing. 2 very different singers, but they both do the songs justice in their own way in my opinion.
Of course it's different, that doesn't mean it's not good. I thought it was a great choice, just sorry to hear they've parted ways. Freddy is gone, and nothing can change that. Maybe they'll find someone to fill in (he can't be replaced, ever). Maybe they won't.
Not Freddie, but then, no one, absolutely no one will ever be able to replace him, so Paul must stand on his own merits, I think he does a good job and I actually like these versions!
Paul Rodgers never fitted in. Queen, with all of the great backup talent and the musical talent, has never, let me repeat, NEVER BEEN THE SAME without Freddie. Freddie has his issues, but, he WAS the vocal sound of QUEEN
I'm sick of this, all the people who have slagged off PAUL RODGERS over the past 5 years clearly never saw them perform live. Best shows I've ever seen, its a shame they aren't going to tour again
@lucrativeelfmongrel RIGHT ON . SAW THEM AT LIVERPOOL ....BRILLIANT . NO ONE MATCHES FRED, AND NO ONE COMES CLOSE TO PAUL. JUST BE THANKFUL WE HAD THE TWO GREATEST FRONT MEN IN THE BEST LIVE BAND.

I love Paul Rodgers, he was great in Free and Bad Company, but he's not got the right sound for queen. Freddie was a performer and an extrovert - he had a voice that was better than the usual rock star (no offence Mr Rodgers), but the only person who has come close to carrying on Freddie's crown with Queen is George Michael!
paul really did make the songs sound his way, differrent but still brilliant. Without JD its just not the original sound of queen. An explosion of rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that Q+PR is over, looking back in hindsight you realize it took quite a bit of courage for Paul to get up there and not worry and just put himself into the songs. You can just tell the guy just loves music above all else and the end result is a sincere performance that the people in the room felt.
Freddie was an impossible act to follow, and I believe Rodgers will prove to be a hard act to follow in his own way as well.
paul not trying to be like freddie, he not the showman and has different voice, he can sing though. where the hell is john deacon. i could handle the rodgers/freddie thing, different vocals add differences to band but no DEACON!!!! that not right.
John Deacon did not want to know, he has made his money and HE turned his back on the fans. What do you expect Brian and Roger to do for the rest of their lives?? Lay down and die???
I would walk a mile on broken glass to see Brian, Roger or Paul so having them together is amazing.
If you dont like them you are missing a great opertunity to hear Queen songs played AUTHENTICLY by members of the band.
This isnt a local soundalike band, they are ROCK GODS
Though as good as this is its will never be as good as the original! Freddie is, was and will forever be the best, however Paul Rodgers does this justice, if a little bleeded... if you get what I mean...
I was / am an "original" Queen fanatic. I was all prepared to dislike the Queen + Paul Rodgers version of the band. However, you have to give him credit. He does an amazing job, and openly acknowledges that he's not trying to copy Freddie. How could he? But he has lent the songs his own style and I admit to having become a convert. After all, better to contiunue to enjoy these live performances than none at all !!!
i just watched adam lambert and though he does have a good voice i have to agree with ß4parrw, he has a long long way to go before he can match paul or freddie!!!!
I have this taped. was their first thing on TV before they did the chapions tour. accept Rodgers for what it is. things change. what u want em to do sit around wanking. or reignite the fire inside. no body can replace no body so just get over it. and stop moaning. i hate hollyoaks so i just dont watch it. if u hate the new queen bugger off
@number1cherfan There's something I don't get, though... Ok so they reignite the fire inside, but where does this fire go afterwards? It seems like it's blazed out so fast. Maybe it's just my impression. But I wonder about these things. This was so spectacular, & at the same time more intimate as they played smaller venues. But do people understand anything? We only fight emotionally about Paul or whatever...
you gotta be fucking with me?! freddy mercury was one of the best rock singers of all time, and to say he's have issues keeping up with adam is like saying Hussain Bolt would have issues keeping up with chris farley running. FREDDIE LIVES ON FOREVER... LONG LIVE FREDDIE...YOU ARE THE SOUL OF QUEEN!!
utter crap!! adam is nothing compared to both of them they are both absolute legands he is just a 2nd place looser of a talent show, unlike mercury and rodgers he couldnt even become famous on his own
Rogers just doesn't have the *right* voice to do this. His range is not high enough to play duet with the guitar, which is one of the signature moves of this song. No doubt Adam Lambert would do this better, perhaps even outsing Mercury.
Adam Lambert is the guy that won American Idol, and showed a great voice with great range. He is indeed a very gifted voice.
But I just don't think Adam is on this overall level of Paul (or Freddie for that matter). He doesn't have the dynamic or presence to stand on this same stage.
@zenmachinefilms Adam just comes from a very different place, the musical theatre, but he's a tremendous act all on his own, I don't think he would work as a lead singer. Maybe if he was just starting out, he could have played Galileo in WWRY. Ring of Fire, Tracks of My Tears are my favourites.
I gotta say this. Queen + Paul Rodgers just split-up today..and some of the Youtube stuff lets it down. However this is the 1st thing I saw...and it's just as good now as it was back then! People who think Queen shouldn't tour with Paul are idiots! In fact Freddie was a great friend of Pauls and used to want to sing like him. Like it says: It's Queen + Paul Rodgers! Obviously he is good enough for Brian May and Rodger Taylor...and that is all that matters.
Paul Rodgers is in a class of his own that very few singers achieve. Freddie was in there as well along with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Singers that no matter what they sing sounds fantastic.
He's good, I'll give him that. I just wish they'd left it as it was-it's not the same without Freddie imo, and I still haven't forgiven them for letting 5ive do one of their songs, that was a tragedy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
None of you know what you're talking about. Paul Rodgers is the best rock singer ever, too good to be with Queen but hey never mind.
Saw them live last month and again this month, they were brilliant. There's no comparison between Paul Rodgers and Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers wins every time.
Nobody is too good to sing with Queen. I agree that Paul Rodgers is a great singer, but you can't say he beats Freddie Mercury, simply because he doesn't
freddie mercury was one of the best singers the world has ever seen. no one will ever be able to compare to him, queen will never sound the same. but, i still would like to go see this band. i think its better that they are still getting out and rocking with this singer (who is good) then quitting altogether.
Bleh I definitely admire Paul Rodgers for not trying to sound like Freddie (Like every Journey singer after Steve Perry), but it's still not the same. Eh idk with some time, I think I can come to appreciate him more.
when i heard about this album that is the quesiton that raced through my mind. after listning to the album the awnsure is: queen-freddie murkury= a decent rock band with queen-like guitar riffs, but nothing else that sounds like the old queen.
so its just, another band. they should change there name because this just isnt queen, its not awefull, but it sounds like a completely different band. also, obviously, the music dosnt even compare to the old queens.
I still don't know whether i like Queen with Paul Rodgers... I know Freddie's gone but Queen + Paul Rodgers just isn't Queen without Freddie.. I think i'm like most fans, missing Freddie like crazy but this just isn't the same, no John and no Freddie, its really only half.. Maybe a new band name would fit them better.. I love you Freddie xx
i think its funny when people complain about Paul Rodgers, Brian May and Roger Taylor. Freddie is dead, he died just shy of 17 years ago. He was a great singer and will never be bettered for queen songs, but he is gone. You can complain all you like, but its missing the whole point.Queen+Paul Rodgers have been highly successful so far, doing 2 sellout tours and having a No5 album in the uk. Its not about trying to better freddie, its about having a good time and playing for their many fans again
i was waiting 19 years to see Brian may and Taylor playing live and Q+PR has given me that chance and im sure there are many like me around the world.
gngerlove5: No, I haven't heard anyone doing a better job than Paul Rodgers when singing the old Queen songs. Except for Freddie, that is. But he's not coming back. I don't need a hearing aid. I can recognize true chemistry when I hear it. Paul is great. And the new album is great. Stop being prejudiced. Stop comparing Paul to Freddie. As I said before, he's not coming back. Stop living in the past. Enjoy the present. And if you don't wanna hear it: just don't listen to it! It's that easy...
Once again, I can't stress that enough... Paul Rodgers, Brian May and Roger Taylor are all TITANS. I believe they should have simply started a new project, instead of trying to continue in the path of Queen. I totally agree with VIUDOJOVEN there, not saying it's bad, but it's just like Dire Straits without Mark Knopfler or The Police without Sting. Just not good enough.
Well, excuse me folks, but I'm STILL not sure if this Paul Rodgers thing is really a good idea. He's got a great voice, no doubt, it's just not a voice which sounds good when singing the vocal parts of the "old" Queen songs. I'm not saying he has to fill anyone's shoes, but dammit, Freddie's gone, Deacon's not there, this is no more than 50% Queen, so... If they wanted to continue playing together, why didn't Mr May and Mr Taylor simply start a new band with Rodgers!?!
I wish people would stop complaining, notice they call themselves "Queen + Paul Rogers". Two titans of their eras! Its sad that Freddie has gone, but Free aren't about now, and that is sad too! At least we all get to see a bit of both :D relax and enjoy, if you dont like then pop in a Queen Greatest hits tape and enjoy that.
Outstanding for Pop Idol you mean! come on! R u seriously saying he there isnt anyone else who could do a hell of alot better than him! Put your glasses on and put a hearing aid on! I disagree %
Saw them live 2 years ago in the Sheffield DVD concert. Some them live 2 days ago on the 5th in Manchester.
Im to young sadly to have seen Freddie live but my god don't they do the music justice. Its been mind blowing both times and the MOMENT they announce another tour if they do I will have tickets to see them again, and even if it cost me £200 Id consider it money well spent.
ok he isn't Freddie, but he is still great, And it's a little harsh comparing him to Freddie coz Freddies the best there ever was, and at will remain the best there ever was for some time yet.
As lipemay said you shouldn't think of them as Queen without Freddie in but a band with Paul Rodgers Brian May and Roger Taylor who are three of the best musicians around at the moment and for the last 40 years.
Paul is great. and... for the love of God...STOP comparing because he does something admirable. he takes the song and makes his own way of singing. Of course he is not Freddie..he is Paul Rodgers...
I think that the problem is in the name of the group... that makes every people go crazy comparing. maybe another name for the group could be a solution. but I still thinking.. Paul is a really great Singer i´ve seen them live.. and they sounded amazing.
I thought it was okay, but I rather hear Paul do the old bad Co. tunes. He should patch it up with his old mates and do what he is good at, good old three cord rock. Thyme
Some honesty is overdue here. I admire them for going on, But a new name and material is what they should do. Lay the 'Queen' name to rest, as this is not Queen anymore. Justice cannot be done to these songs anymore and Paul just doesn't have the range or the impact. This was a voice under strain. Move on and don't trade on an old memory. PEACE :)
Paul isnt trying to replace Freddy, no one can, no one will. I notice your name "fleeting glance" tell me, when a love one gets older, will you too " move on"???
Whats with that Jamzal? i made a reasonable point, albeit calling queen hideously overrated was OTT but that is my opinion. queen were a 'rock' band with a pop singer. i like a lot of their songs but some of them are ridiculous i.e i want to break free and fat bottomed girls.
Look...I'm a fan of Paul Rodgers...but...it is pretty clear that Queen died with Freddie. Is it too much to ask these people to come up with a new band name? You're just asking people to not like it. This is a new band...they should be called something else...and if they want to play Queen songs...that's fine...but don't pose as Queen...because Queen cannot be Queen...without THE QUEEN! The fact that these shows draw people, shows how much the world really misses Freddie.
i saw them in nottingham on friday, they were amazing! Paul Rogers is actually the best to choose after freddie mercury. I reckon you'll have a great time, it was amazing!!
Its obvious that no one will replace Freddie but the thing that I like about Paul is that he sings in his own good old fashion rockin style, he is not a wanna be, like many other singers that had replace the original one in many bands, and of course, he is definetely a better option than George Michael or Robbie Williams.....Long Live Queen!!!
Paul Rodgers is a rock icon, noone can touch him in style and stage presence, met him a few years back, is also very sweet and down to earth to his fans..anyone who wants to be totaslly blown away. listen to his first band Free, totally raw, wild and unmatched....
I love Freddie, I love Queen, I love Paul Rodgers, I love Free and I love Bad Co. This is an epic win, but with a touch of sadness that Freddie won't be coming back.
I've seen Queen and Queen with Paul Rodgers and am seeing them next week and I think Paul does a superb job, he has a great voice and he has enabled Brian and Roger to keep doing what they love and we can go and hear Queen songs as well as PR songs!
As a Queen Fan from day one, i cant say that this is nearly good, nobody ever can replace Freddy, point basta, Brian and Roger should get a own thing goin and leave the memorys in our heads. Queen for ever but not with this singer!
anyone wants the truth? It (the "new" Queen) sounds like Gospel music with Mr. Rodgers. Nothing against him, but some memories should stay om DVD only...
omg they are musicians and their job is to do music and concerts so stop complaining about paul rodgers, he is not freddie and never will be but he is doing his job very very god, i cannot imagine myself singing instead of freddie, at least he tries and succeds
It should be Queen plus Chuck Norris

He's good, I'll give him that. I just wish they'd left it as it was-it's not the same without Freddie imo, and I still haven't forgiven them for letting 5ive do one of their songs, that was a tragedy.

and how about all the Queen songs that Rodgers learned so quickly and delivered so well? I still have trouble believing it.

None of you know what you're talking about. Paul Rodgers is the best rock singer ever, too good to be with Queen but hey never mind.
Saw them live last month and again this month, they were brilliant. There's no comparison between Paul Rodgers and Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers wins every time.
garnitia 3 years ago
Nobody is too good to sing with Queen. I agree that Paul Rodgers is a great singer, but you can't say he beats Freddie Mercury, simply because he doesn't
chriswatson1892 3 years ago 3
freddie mercury was one of the best singers the world has ever seen. no one will ever be able to compare to him, queen will never sound the same. but, i still would like to go see this band. i think its better that they are still getting out and rocking with this singer (who is good) then quitting altogether.

Freddy is revolving in his grave :S

Bleh I definitely admire Paul Rodgers for not trying to sound like Freddie (Like every Journey singer after Steve Perry), but it's still not the same. Eh idk with some time, I think I can come to appreciate him more.

Queen-freddie murkury=?
when i heard about this album that is the quesiton that raced through my mind. after listning to the album the awnsure is: queen-freddie murkury= a decent rock band with queen-like guitar riffs, but nothing else that sounds like the old queen.
so its just, another band. they should change there name because this just isnt queen, its not awefull, but it sounds like a completely different band. also, obviously, the music dosnt even compare to the old queens.
longlivethesixties 3 years ago
I still don't know whether i like Queen with Paul Rodgers... I know Freddie's gone but Queen + Paul Rodgers just isn't Queen without Freddie.. I think i'm like most fans, missing Freddie like crazy but this just isn't the same, no John and no Freddie, its really only half.. Maybe a new band name would fit them better.. I love you Freddie xx

I don't know who's better at 60 Paul Rogders or Sammy Hagar.

i think its funny when people complain about Paul Rodgers, Brian May and Roger Taylor. Its not about trying to better freddie, its about having a good time and playing for their many fans again
bhm1712 3 years ago 3
i was waiting 19 years to see Brian may and Taylor playing live and Q+PR has given me that chance and im sure there are many like me around the world.

gngerlove5: No, I haven't heard anyone doing a better job than Paul Rodgers when singing the old Queen songs.
Queen19751986 3 years ago 4
I agree to Queen 19751986
sylvitarodgers 3 years ago
Once again, I can't stress that enough... Paul Rodgers, Brian May and Roger Taylor are all TITANS. I believe they should have simply started a new project, instead of trying to continue in the path of Queen. I totally agree with VIUDOJOVEN there, not saying it's bad, but it's just like Dire Straits without Mark Knopfler or The Police without Sting. Just not good enough.
Me7roiD 3 years ago
The train has left the station, and Freddie is not on it :)
Sholden121 3 years ago
Well, excuse me folks, but I'm STILL not sure if this Paul Rodgers thing is really a good idea. He's got a great voice, no doubt, it's just not a voice which sounds good when singing the vocal parts of the "old" Queen songs. I'm not saying he has to fill anyone's shoes, but dammit, Freddie's gone, Deacon's not there, this is no more than 50% Queen, so... If they wanted to continue playing together, why didn't Mr May and Mr Taylor simply start a new band with Rodgers!?!
Me7roiD 3 years ago
I wish people would stop complaining, notice they call themselves "Queen + Paul Rogers". Two titans of their eras! Its sad that Freddie has gone, but Free aren't about now, and that is sad too! At least we all get to see a bit of both :D relax and enjoy, if you dont like then pop in a Queen Greatest hits tape and enjoy that.
bennlloyd12 3 years ago

Talshere88 3 years ago
ok he isn't Freddie, but he is still great, And it's a little harsh comparing him to Freddie coz Freddies the best there ever was, and at will remain the best there ever was for some time yet.
As lipemay said you shouldn't think of them as Queen without Freddie in but a band with Paul Rodgers Brian May and Roger Taylor who are three of the best musicians around at the moment and for the last 40 years.
P.S IM GOING TO SEE THEM!!!!
polkmn126 3 years ago
Paul is great. and... for the love of God...STOP comparing because he does something admirable. he takes the song and makes his own way of singing. Of course he is not Freddie..he is Paul Rodgers...
I think that the problem is in the name of the group... that makes every people go crazy comparing. maybe another name for the group could be a solution. but I still thinking.. Paul is a really great Singer i´ve seen them live.. and they sounded amazing.

Much LARGER than this performance.
And you can hear the Rodgers has given Queen a harder edge.

My initial comment wasn't a dislike of Paul Rodgers. It was an observation and a opinion, that's all. lets me put this another way.
Do you think Velvet Revolver would have been better calling themselves 'Guns N' Roses + Scott Weiland' ??? I don't think so.
fleetinglance 3 years ago
Wow , I just got cold chills watching this video. I love it that they can still revamp the old rock/pop tunes of Queen and make them new again.
Did any of you naysayers notice that Freddie is dead and that Paul Rodgers is doing Paul Rodgers versions of the old songs not Freddies.
I think Paul Rodgers is kick ass. I saw Freddie with Queen in there hayday live and I will never forget it, but this is new and different.
barrybrandon 3 years ago 3
Some honesty is overdue here. I admire them for going on, But a new name and material is what they should do. Lay the 'Queen' name to rest, as this is not Queen anymore. Justice cannot be done to these songs anymore and Paul just doesn't have the range or the impact. This was a voice under strain. Move on and don't trade on an old memory. PEACE :)
fleetinglance 3 years ago
Paul isnt trying to replace Freddy, no one can, no one will. I notice your name "fleeting glance" tell me, when a love one gets older, will you too " move on"???

freddy was a popstar in a rock band, paul rodgers is the best rock vocalist ever. but nobody could perform like freddy.
Paul rodgers is a rock icon, queen, a hideaously overrated band, are lucky to have him
jamesthebruff 3 years ago
and that's your opinion, you cunt
jamzal 3 years ago
Whats with that Jamzal? i made a reasonable point, albeit calling queen hideously overrated was OTT but that is my opinion. queen were a 'rock' band with a pop singer. i like a lot of their songs but some of them are ridiculous i.e i want to break free and fat bottomed girls.
You have to lighten up mate, its music...
"you cunt"...fuckin arsehole mate

dontstopmenow1111 3 years ago
Look...I'm a fan of Paul Rodgers...but...it is pretty clear that Queen died with Freddie. Is it too much to ask these people to come up with a new band name? You're just asking people to not like it. This is a new band...they should be called something else...and if they want to play Queen songs...that's fine...but don't pose as Queen...because Queen cannot be Queen...without THE QUEEN! The fact that these shows draw people, shows how much the world really misses Freddie.

Going to see them tonight. i think its going to be pretty good :)
punked0up0angel 3 years ago 3
Its obvious that no one will replace Freddie but the thing that I like about Paul is that he sings in his own good old fashion rockin style, he is not a wanna be, like many other singers that had replace the original one in many bands, and of course, he is definetely a better option than George Michael or Robbie Williams.....Long Live Queen!!!

Paul Rodgers is a rock icon, noone can touch him in style and stage presence, met him a few years back, is also very sweet and down to earth to his fans..anyone who wants to be totaslly blown away. listen to his first band Free, totally raw, wild and unmatched....
