He's 100% correct, they were not prepared properly for the 94 riot, so they knew the atmosphere was the same as before. Our society in Canada is just as victim to being brought up brain washed as in the US. Wow. These 2 idiots don't have any idea of what they're talking about. Conspiracy theories? C'mon, I was there - I know EXACTLY what happened. There were over 100,000 people packed in the downtown core. There were only a few hundred cops - majorly outnumbered! Yes, they were a little late, but that's because they had to devise a plan based on the locations and severity of the various acts taking place. Other cops from jurisdictions up to an hour away were called in to help contain the situation.

(continued) Yes, there were fears that a riot might break out. Yes, the police were prepared. This happened in 1994 when the Canucks didn't win the Cup, so a repeat was imminent. A few minutes before the game ended, families with their children left early because they KNEW this would happen! The big TV's set up at the "fan zones" were shut down before the Cup was even presented to Boston due to the immediate response from the crowd. The rioters weren't even hockey fans.

The police retaliation, while a little slow at first, was handled quite well. Once their presence was known, the worst of the riot was already done.

(continued) The police simply wanted the crowd to disperse. Many of them (while not all) only decided to stay just to see what would happen, which actually escalated the situation in the sense of force being used. The actual rioters were finished for the most part within the first 45 minutes. It took a couple hours longer just to clear the downtown area, which was the main goal of the police at the time. Several arrests could have been made, but weren't - they only wanted to restore peace.
