I dunno, I don't think using a few third-party characters is all that bad as long as they're VERY well-known--i.e. using mascots such as Sonic (Sega) and Snake (Konami) isn't too bad, so Mega Man (Capcom) wouldn't be either. It's once you start throwing secondary characters such as Knuckles, Raiden, or Proto Man that you start having a problem...

Not really. I mean, it's all about the spirit of the game. I mean, Capcom and Nintendo have a really good relationship, and Mega Man is part of Nintendo's history. It's almost as if he WAS a Nintendo character.

I think that the essence of Smash Bros is characters that are part of Nintendo's HISTORY, like Mario, Ness, and Kirby. Metal Gear got it's start on the NES, Sonic's nearly pledged allegiance to Nintendo, and Megaman and X are key parts of the company's history.

What I'm trying to explain is that Smash Brothers seems like it has moved out of the Nintendo-exclusive department and into the Nintendo history department. It's a wise move, as well, since you can only go so far with a single company. Brawl would have been a good deal less popular if they hadn't announced the third-party characters. The controversy of Snake and Sonic gave the game fuel after everyone settled down and realized it was a good decision. History is the future, if that makes sense.

Not everyone thought that it was good to put Sonic and Snake in Brawl, i think that they could have put some better characters that i think would be better, like Isaac(Golden Sun), Ridley, Little Mac, Stafy(hehe) Lyn, they could have made some assist trophies into real playable characters instead!

Sonic and Sega was the rival throughout the SNES era. As any person who remembers that time about who the two biggest mascots were and you'd likely come up with the blue hedgehog and the red plumber.

Then in 1997 game the solid series on psx.

For all I care, as long as it's on the Nintendo and no other system, I consider it a Nintendo franchise. I understand it's Capcom, but the MegaMan series was primarily NES, Gameboy, and SNES until it spread to the playstation.

When people think MegaMan, they usually think Nintendo. That's more than enough reasons for MM to be involved with SSB.
