You really do have good audio and video...sounds strange, but I have found that Radio Shack - yes, "You have questions, we have more questions...kant spel sailfon but A'll sell yu won" has some of the best cheapest microphones that'll go toe to toe with mics 5 - 10 times their cost. I bought a cardioid with a 15hz ~ 25khz response and low noise reduction for $59.99!! Beat that AKG.
Awesome informative video, Austin! Haha, I like your tip about the iPod ear phones. I've actually done that too! It works surprisingly well. You, my brother, and I should make a video together sometime. It'd be awesome!
Good tip about using headphones for a mic (bear in mind the stereo thing tho) but you can also use speakers if you are really desperate. A speaker and Mic are the same thing, one is just more sensitive than the other (mic). speakers convert from digital to analogue signals so if you shout at them you can invert he process. Tried and tested. Not great, smaller speakers are better than bigger cos its to do with movement in the diaphram, bigger diaphrams are harder to move with higher frequences.
Its worth bearing in mind that mics are either mono or stereo. You can tell by the plug (1 stripe = mono, 2 stripes = stereo). Unless theres been a change in the spec most PCs are mono for Mic input so its all well and good having a cool stereo mic but sometimes you will plug in a stereo mic into your pc and it wont work (cos its mono). Check your specs first. Stereo mics are normally more expensive. A good tip for mics is the weight, the heavier the better, its to do with the magnet & windings.
Hi, Austin. I recorded a project last week using an RCA 44 mic which costs about $4000 if you can find one. Great sound of course. I usually use the mic in my camcorder for each of my videos. For live music I recommend a Shure SM58 or SM57 direct to an amp for bigger rooms. There are some very low cost mics at amazon now, including lapel mics for voice interviews like an Oprah show for under $20. There are also very cheap but good diaphragm and ribbon mics for under$100. Great video.
does that actually work!?
omg
