@MaryLiberaDaSempre She says: "Vincent, I care about you so deeply" (deeply, meaning a lot ). Then she tells him: "but a part of me is unhappy and we both know why". Meaning they both know that they can never be together because of the different lives they lead and because his unusual looks would never allow them any peace from a world full of cruel and curious people. This is all Catharine's fault. If Vincent had never met her, he wouldn't be above ground so much. He's always there for her at the exact time she needs him, but she's always late to help him.

I know Vincent loves her, but it's killing him in more ways than one.

love the parts when vincent argues with father and brings him down a peg or two , father was so resentful of Catherine for such a long time, jealous of his closeness to someone else and not him i've always thought . love this episode , didn't Ron Perlman direct it??

I think father was meddlesome and a little overprotective, like many parents. Also I think he overestimated the importance of his counsel. He always had to offer something and there are times when, as parents, we need to just keep quiet when it comes to our adult children. I can relate to father.

Yeah,I love those parts,too!Yes,Ron directed this episode.He did a good job!Yes,father was resentful of Catherine!Like alot of parents,he did'nt always make the right choices,but,he always had Vincent's best intrests at heart.

I checked the credits and it was Thomas Wright who directed this episode. Ron Perman co-wrote the story though.

RP did direct one of the Season 3 episodes, which was Chimes at Midnight.
