@overkillcharlie as a metal guitarist, learning classical and jazz guitar arrangements will definitely help in the metal genre as well. Always keep an open mind musically, it can only help you.
@laylonieiskewl .....his Strat has his voice, it screams, weeps, whispers and wails as well as any singer could add emotion to the songs.....In My Opinion, of course....How many others that read this AGREE WITH ME? Give it a "thumbs-up" for all doubters of Beck's prowess to chew on ! Beck's STILL the best and gets better with each year !
@nowisfine Yes, I can really think of no other musician who truly kept up a level of progression in his technique. As such, he is definitely an inspiration to all of us aging musicians.
I recorded an hour long TV show from the Ronnie Scott's performance. Truly amazing and perhaps his best performance caught on film. This was obviously an important event for him with guys like Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in the audience. Mr Beck delivered a performance that both displayed his incredible technique but had some of that uncanny improvisational mind-bending he is famous for. Throughout, the tone was just unbeliveable. Truly the king!
your name is familiar. even if it' Japan, it looks like the Citidella in Spandau, Berlin. I was at that concert with the same band, same weather, but it looks the same. regardless, Jeff Beck is fantastic wherever he is. He's the star of the E-Guitar hands down. Go get 'em Jeff.
Truly he seemed reluctant. He asked me "Is this YOUR guitar." I think he just doesn't want to be taken advantage of. These days, people get things signed and then sell them on ebay. Its on my prize '73 Strat so I don't think I will ebyay it any time soon! I really don't get it though. Even its on ebay, its most likely to be bought by a Jeff Beck fan anyhow. Beck has the strangest hand shake too.I guess he doesn't want his hand injured.
Yeah. Just saw him in LA in April. A friend & I had photos from an earlier show. We waited for him to arrive at the El Rey theater. When he got there, we asked him to sign. He said. "Can't do it mate. Don't wanna see it on ebay." Congrats on the Strat! No doubt a PRIZE possession
He plays "3rd stone from the sun"by Jimi at 2:36 ...8)... that's one of the few times you can hear Jeff quote someone like that...Awesome version, not as heavy as on Guitar shop but really smokin :D
Vinnie is Amazing. I like the live vs from Crossroads much better. More defined musical direction plus Tal and Vinne sound tighter although it might just be the recording quality?
The recording quality on the crossroads is better. This is an outdoor concert so that doesn't surprise me. This version is great too. Lots of interesting musical sections. Maybe a little more rock energy with this bass player. I agree with you though...Vinnie is pretty sick. Jeff Beck found a musician that can match his energy and musicality.
google search "10 things you gotta do to play like jeff beck". there's a lesson at guitarplayer(dot)com and there are several tabs off to the right, one of which is for this song.
Best used a pick in early 70's.... he switched to the thumb technique claiming it was more comfortable and versatile.
Probably a good way to go. The sooner you drop the pick and head toward all fingers (Flamenco/Classical) the better you become. Paco De Lucia is a good example.
this is good, but not killer like crossroads 2007, same band but with a girl bass player Tal, wow what a dif a bass player makes, I am looking for that here, someone tell me where the crossroads one is, it will blow your mind, same song.
Agreed. No offense to Tal but she is slightly weak on the heavy rock stuff despite the obvious virtuosity. HOWEVER, on the soft stuff, the band sounds as good or better than ever.
theres isnt a dvd but there is a cd and you can get it on his website. its call "the official bootleg". It this set wtih this band but not the exact show. It uncut and realy rough.
Jeff Beck belongs to the best guitarists in the world, there's NEVER a doubt about it!!!

Not just Jeff, but also Vinnie is at his best in this performance. Truly amazing drums, like at Montreux 2009, where I saw them - so much power!
