  • This isn't even her best performance, but it is amazing compared to many other guitarists.

  • Eight people are deaf!

  • Makes me remember of Preston Reed...

  • Gimmicky and repetitive if you ask me. A full album of that tapping would drive anyone mad. Tommy Emmanuel is a zillion times better, he doesn't just tap the guitar, he plays it Chet Atkins style and can do mad scale runs and arpeggios....this chick isn't doing anything that complex.

  • @rpeggio LOL. Let's see you come anywhere near what she does here.

  • @rpeggio I totally disagree, but that is why music is so subjective. Don't get me wrong, I think you are spot on and this is defiantely the area where she needs to work. I LOVE TE's music but my wife hates it. She does like Mckee, Dufour and Hedges (favs of mine too) but doesn't like Tommy! WTH? Anyway, listen to the cool Hedgesisck thing from 1:26 to around 1:45, that's pretty dang good variation!

  • How old is she?

  • @F91yzg 52 years young.

  • I remember reading an interview where a sax and trumpet were playing unison lines...tuned one a few cents sharp to make it stand out , and to avoid masking. Brilliant concept , and your guitar playing is also brilliant. Forever a fan!

  • Where is ur mask Buckethead?

  • So amazing to watch, I'm imagining the fingers of steal you must have and the precision strikes made to the strings. Nimble isn't even close, more like rapid fire!

I enjoyed myself eminsely at your performance in Wentworth on the 28th October 2010. I wish you the best!

  • instantly a fan

  • bravo

  • Wow, this is super awesome guitar work and a great and fun composition. Thanks for sharing! Recording issues aside, this is probably the best percussive and harmonic playing I've ever heard. Inspiring, is all the picking being done with bear hands???

Where did you learn to play??

  • This is some of the best guitar playing I have herd in the last 30 years. Too bad there are so many tanlentless bums out there that couldn't play their way out of a paper bag if their life depended on it.

  • ...first off you probly cant even play anything close to that. She deserved it. Havent heard anyone play like this except for Tuck.

  • Amazing amazing musician! Guys who have been saying abt the string thats out of tune, read her comment down there... First off you probsbly

  • out of tune!!!

  • hmm, thought these kind of contests were for undiscovered, amateur players? I saw Vick at the Newport folk fest a wile back, she was a sponsored artist from Gibson guitars. Her playing is ok, she's kind of an average Kaki King, Hedges knock off with to many gadget techniques. how she won this?? Sponsors must need more exposure for her.

  • @b66docos By knowing her personally I know that she doesn't get much sponsoring except her association with Luna guitar, and I would not call anything she does "too many gadget techniques."

  • superb, good girl!

  • This is pretty damn good, but I feel Makana should've won. Was a cleaner performance.

  • this is one of my favorite pieces by Vicki....shes phenominal

  • Thats a nice Fbass on her left side there.

  • Hedgeian as all-get-out with a dose of Willy Porter thrown in for good measure, but that doesn't change the fact that she's a monster player.

  • Here's the deal about the tuning. It's definitely out of tune. I'm taking a 56 gauge string normally tuned to E and dropping it down to Bb. Most of the time it stays pretty close, but it was out this time, no doubt. The prob is that this recording is only giving you the direct out from the console - you're not hearing any of the 'live' room sound. Really makes the out of tune string stand out. Can't stop and retune in a competition like this guys....what more can I say?

    Peace Out, Vicki G.

  • I love that personally responded Vicki- you are a class act.

Congrats on the well earned title. I love your style and enjoy the way you mix up! Lord Bless you!

  • @vickigenfan EPIC! U go Girl!!!!!!!! I want to marry you!! x3

  • @vickigenfan However still absolutely amazing!

  • @vickigenfan I'm usually very unforgiving when someone plays a detuned instrument, but they usually don't play this well... so screw that!

  • She is good, but really, the low E IS out of tune, it's obvious and you are tone deaf if you can't hear that.

  • umm well its not obvious, and i dont think the e sounds bad at all, I dont think pros go on stage without a tuned instrument.

  • 10 different songs thrown together.

  • Bad asss playing, but boring song

  • WOW! Crazy good! Almost reminds me of Michael Hedges. Congratulations!

  • What would you know? I believe it is intended to sound that way! I think you are just jealous because you can't play guitar like she can!

  • More than you obviouslty since you can't tell. If I claim that it is out of tune, I think I have a reason for it. Fine, of course I can't play like that. But I have the ear to tell when things are out of tune, and the intonation sounds like crap with the E-string like that.

  • to me it sounds more like shes in drop d maybe. the e string sounds too low to be in standard

  • She's actually dropped it to Bb. But it's the string itself I refer to as "the low E-string". I mean she plays excellent, love it. BUT that low E-string is way out. Sorry if people get upset, but that's just the way it is.

  • Idiot. She tunes it that way on purpose. If she tuned to a regular E, It wouldn't sound as good. The sound wouldn't really fit... Just because you can tell it's out of tune, doesn't mean you're right. If you think it would sound better in a regular E, why don't you tune your guitar "right" and play it yourself?

  • My GOD you are stupid. If that intonation doesn't sound bad to you, then you just can't tell. Don't come bitching about me having to play it myself even after I've said that I obviously can't play like that. I just think that she should be able to tune an E-string down to a proper Bb. I know that she has dropped it, you moron. I just think that it's a bit out of tune, which makes it annoying to listen to for more than one minute.

  • Trust me. If she tuned it regularly, you would be whining, and complaining how it sounds tuned weird. You can't do anything about how it sounds, so stop complaining about it please.

We should stop flaming, since there's too much of it on YouTube already.

  • Yeah, you're right, sorry man. Yeahyeah I think I know what you're getting at, but either way, I still think that she should be able to turn the string just a teeny little bit further down in order to get a clean note that goes along better with the rest of the open chord, if you get what I mean? Or is that impossible in drop Bb? I have never dropped the E string that much so I don't know :)

  • She is an incredible player but I personally didn't care much for the song... just a little too "out there" for me...

  • Far out! Sonic flubber my head is bouncing inside after hearing that. My senses are like warped whapa whapa doinka doinka whooee!!!!

  • Wow, sorry I didn't spell check the word rhythmically.. It still doesn't negate my initial

    comment about slap players/playing. Congrats'

on winning, but I'm not a fan.

  • so refreshing to watch and listen to a female play guitar this good!

  • i take it back, i just watched the other videos...are you kidding me? there are better guitarists in essex let alone america...wtv, talk about lower the bar, especially considering who the judges are.

  • i cant believe she won for that.. cool player, but yawn, justin king? preston reed? atleast do something other than relying on a drop tuning and a funky slap, done to death, however kudos for winning, shes a great player and i cant wait to hear some more of her stuff!

  • Insane!

  • AWESOME!

  • Great Playing Vicki! Congratulations!

  • She's the female Tommy Emmanuel.

  • @robibm2003 I was thinking more like Michael Hedges, & I bet so was Steve Vai...

  • @robibm2003 Also Andy MacGee..

  • yawn... All these slap players do pretty much the same thing. Tune their guitars to and open chord tuning and hit their guitars with their hands rhymically.

  • I'm not yawning....but I'm really interested in hearing your guitar playing evolutionmb. is it on the web?

  • would be nice if you did spell check....yawn.

  • this dope didnt even deserve a response from you, congrats on winning
