Why are there women among the Cavalry Scouts? It is a combat role, so women are not allowed, for good reason. Surely, they are some support MOS and they happened to be among the Scouts.
That's a shame. I heard Green Berets do backflips while throwing axes at targets. I figured horse riding would be a good side to the Cav Scout training.

@trevorhirby an overall 50 on your asvab is enough to get all the good MOS still and qualify for some decent bonuses. i enlisted in 2006 for a 4 year contract and got 26,000 bonus for a 13f without airborne in the contract
@trevorhirby i had bct at fort jackson and ait at fort sill. jackson was easy because you have females in your platoons and sill was easy bc the MOS is very boring. they description says a full list of things you MOS does... well those are things you "might" do for that MOS. our of 10 of those things that MOS does you may do 2 of them and that is it your whole career unless you become and training NCO or something like that. if you re-enlist after that always negotiate a higher rank
@trevorhirby why not get that in your enlistment contract? fire support is air support ... its a pretty hard transition into a combat arms selection course like Ranger School and SF. might as well get airborne and option 40 ranger in your contract that way if you fail ranger you will already have your airborne done and you will know whether rangers or sf interest you later down the road. u dont want to spend all that time training and getting selected to find out you hate it
@trevorhirby not to mention Ranger is i think a 2 year enlistment in ranger batt. so you will have to extend your enlistment if you have less than 2 years left inf your original contract so you will probably have to wait until the end of your 1st term and try to get ranger option 40 in your 2nd contract if you wait that long.

@trevorhirby fire support is always a critical MOS so they push it on people with big bonus... the longer you enlist the bigger and bigger the bonus goes for this MOS

Also, when you go back to MEPS to sign your final active duty transition contract read that damn thing first because it can be different than the DEP contract you signed. that means you can miss out on MOS, duty stations, Bonuses, training areas all that stuff.

IM about to reclass into cav scouts, I believe we should be the first ones in a war, once neutralized and major targets are taken out, we need to move back out, leave the small fighting to the infantry, quartermaster etc.
The Infantry does the main fighting. Scouts technically arent supposed to shoot at all. An LP/OP is for exactly that, observing and Listening. Not fighting. Iraq is a different story all together, I know Mechanics who have been in more firefights than some infantry or Scouts. Simply because they position they were in.

I have family that dates back to Custer's time. ALL cav scouts. Except my father. But my mother remarried and guess what. She married a cav scout. I spent the last 18 years 19Delta. Yea I heard that in '09 or '10 US Armor Center is being moved to Fort Benning. So i assume that all 19K's and 19D's will go to BCT and AIT in Benning.

19D is an enlisted MOS, but that doesn't mean that you cannot do the training. Officers just go by the MOS 19A. Think though, a cout platoon is run by an LT, and that LT has to be able to do the job as well as any of his subordinates.

Its not the same at the Point. Females are allowed to participate in any training available to male cadets. Hell, I'd even prefer to serve a few of the females I've met in basic and at the academy over 90% of the guys I've served with.
I've had a few ring knocker Lts. I have NOTHING good to say about them. I prefer a mustang Lt. anyday over some ring knocker who doesnt listen to his Sgt. and gets good men killed.

I thought if you were an officer you weren't able to be a 19D. Is my information incorrect or can an officer not be a 19D?

19D is an enlisted MOS, but that doesn't mean that you cannot do the training. Officers just go by the MOS 19A. Think though, a cout platoon is run by an LT, and that LT has to be able to do the job as well as any of his subordinates.

for prior service it wont be to bad the ones that were there when i went through got a little bit of priveleges like you could smoke and go to the px whenever you want. scout school is still tuff you will get crushed everyday to. good to hear people wanting to be scouts good luck man we need more out there

I am a 19D stationed out of Ft. Hood. You will definitely see action as a scout because we are the eyes and ears of the Army. Don't let any other POG son's of bitches tell you that they are better, No one works without us. Stupid tankers don't do shit, they wait for us to tell them where to go. (For all who don't know, tanker and scout is a huge rivalry. Not that is really matters it's just how we were trained.) And for those asking, Remember this. Agony, Misery, and Heartbreak.

Its not the same at the Point. Females are allowed to participate in any training available to male cadets. Hell, I'd even prefer to serve a few of the females I've met in basic and at the academy over 90% of the guys I've served with.

I'd say 19D because you get to train on more weapon systems than 11B. I'm 11B myself but my brother is a 19D with the 2nd ID. I'm with the 2/505 PIR.
