it did but after you beat the forest temple there will be a great deku tree sprout, which takes the place of the deku tree, appears and tells link about who he is.

to my knowledge, that is the second deku tree (he apparess somewhere in OoT as adult link) and the hollowed island is the dead deku tree and the kokiri forest, and the koroks look like human deku hybrids... my opionion...

I think the Great Deku Tree in this game is actualy the sprout from the realy old Deku Tree in the Ocarina of Time.
