  • this lecturer is goood :)

  • lol presidents coming from poor families lol.... CEOs ruined the environement and repress clean renewable energy techologies, CEO's of the private military industries are mass murderers. hahaha Most athletes are glorified rat racers, They are under tremendous physical and mental pressure.

If you all care you about is riches, the material life, well then, you are no better then a common thug. The only difference between you and say al capone is that he has balls.

  • @jystyle Last sentence wins so hard.

  • @Crustanarchy lol thanks you

  • Yeah, look at all these presidents who came from poor places!! woot woot!

Try to get out of your bubble some day, okay? :)

  • Some did. Look at Obama's childhood for an example and Abraham Lincoln.

  • @Hannibal

    Capitalism... perfect? Really??

You demonstrate a serious lack of understanding of how our world/society works. Ever since the DAWN of civilization there has been a minority upper-class and the majority in lower/underclass. So long as we have hierarchy/nation-states/centralized markets, we will have people living in "ghettos" so to speak. Keep in mind, studies show that for the VAST majority of people, the economic bracket they're born into is going to be the one they die in as well.

  • Glad you bring up history. Most people fail to put our current civilization into context. Much of it is a step in the same direction of ensuring the interests of powerful minority and exploiting the majority.

  • @Simbelmyne13

Indeed... and the tragedy may be that the only way freedom/sustainability is ensured is if civilization itself goes bye-bye to a great extent.

  • @Hannibal

    continued...

You also fail to realize that for every 'rags-to-riches' success story, there are a THOUSAND failures. The entire game is rigged, it's a gamble, becoming successful/wealthy requires rare statistical anomalies to be in one's favor, for instance, being lucky enough to be born into wealth, win the lotto, or slide up through the narrow cracks from poverty to riches by just happening to bump into the right opportunities. It's guaranteed that SOME will, but not most.

  • @Hannibal

    continued...

The fact that there is a poor underclass is absolutely no mistake. These poor people didn't make mistakes, they're living the only life they can, making do with what they've got. Capitalism does not reward people for working hard, otherwise the single mother working 3 jobs busting her ass would be a trillionaire, no? Also... even in an ideal capitalist world where everybody "pulled themselves up by their bootstraps" and became rich, the system would collapse if we did.

  • "Capitalism = waste. Other than that it is perfect."

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Tell that to the Haitians, arsehole. No building regulations. No "government interference".

    "People are inherently good. "

Right, yet people "put themselves" in ghettos. Grow a brain already.

  • @cayetanoluis There were building regulations in Haiti. Unfortunately, they were built to withstand hurricanes, not earthquakes.

  • @mikemat3307 So those tin shacks would have withstood hurricanes. Yeah, okay. Finish your joint.

  • @HannibalAdPortas1 Let's say I want to put myself in a rich place. Let's say I work 80 hours a week in unsanitary conditions for minimal pay. Let's say I'm the hardest, smartest worker at my company. Why aren't I in a rich place yet?

Oh yeah. Capitalism doesn't reward effort nor sacrifice.

  • Excellent video! thanks for the upload.

  • What strawmen?? No, he did not mention violently enforced expropriations, and he is not conflating those. Where did you hear that? Get a clue.

  • you're not even arguing against parecon. you're arguing against central planning. understandable since you only listened to the first minute.

  • please we need to spread this ideas in southamerica!!!! i think its important , please translate to spanish!!!!!!!!

  • Nature and capitalism & communism. Are coming to the end of their productive limits. we as humans must curtail Productive inputs into the environment. We have to stop growth or nature will do this for us. There are six billion of us. Oh.. you can go an crunch all the Friedman numbers on productivity you want. At the end of the day the only numbers that will work on the environment are balanced ones. And capital the most productive system, Cant have regulation. It wont stand for limiting growth.

  • Furthermore to regulate a capital economy, is disastrous for a capital based economy capital seeks to deregulate! to free up! to allow! the flow of product and service. capital requires "no hindrance to it's will."

This is all fine till "social concern" impedes it. Then Capital attacks that impediment. And balance to the force, if you will, Plays out. We have reached the end thow nature is a system of ballances. Capital never wanted to play that game.

  • Advocate1234 loves ECONOMY but has never studied it. He likes to think that all the world is benefiting from Capital. Yet he has a limited view, do to the fact he is not well traveled. He cant comprehend balance. for him capitalism is the pinnacle of human Production And he is right. The problem lies with growth a mainstay of capitalism. Reduce growth and Capital dies. so what are we then left with? a smaller managed society a grotesque notion for advocate1234, mere talk of it makes him shutter.

  • I'm convinced that no matter how many people are taught the "zero-sum game fallacy," which takes less than 5 minutes to convince someone of its merits, there will still be people like this who have no understanding of basic economics acting like a pseudo intellectual.

Capitalism has brought more prosperity to the greatest number of poor people than any other source. One cannot force others into solidarity.

Also, Capitalism has allowed people to specialize and use their uniqueness to prosper.

  • omg do u live in a parallel world?

take a second look at the number of ppl below poverty line, without education etc...

capitalism doesn´t work, it s doomed to fail

just like communism or so called "real-socialism"

i think tha fact that we dont have INFINITE RESOURCES is the best arguement against market economy PERIOD

  • You didn't even make an argument. You stated your own personal incredulity and ignored that the number of people below the poverty line in America are wealthier than most wealthy in the rest of the world.

The have all the food they need to provide their families. Real Wages have increased even since 1975.

We are the only civilization in the history of the world where people can be called poor and obese at the same time.

  • "You didn't even make an argument"

Neither didn´t you. The statistics that indciate the increase of real wages have very doubtful significance for a single person or a family who need to make a living.

I dont know how many pills u took to observe the state of the world the way you do, but i actually have a slight idea how national economiy works.

And all the current measures be taken are BAD for national economy and therefore bad for the people

  • "We are the only civilization in the history of the world where people can be called poor and obese at the same time"

Dude you just throw some statements in and call them arguements.

First of all wealth means more than having one meal a day. There are decent housing, proper education, health care and so on....and those are HUMAN RIGHTS and not some luxury wants!

  • Just stop your nonsense. Nobody starves in America. Everyone, including the poor have plenty to eat.

  • If all that is nonsense to you, why do you even bother to watch this clip or write comments?

Hope I won´t hear from you again.

  • advocate1234- go to your city downtown and tell that to the homeless. come to the ghettos and tell that to any randomn persons face and see what happens to you. about 5 percent of americans own like 50 percent of the countries income. the rest share the other 50. The majority, (60 percent) the working class making minimum wage and other poor families share the crumbs, cant afford for their health care (medical, dental, vision) and can barley afford paying rent.

  • Second, now it wasn´t like that capitalsim per se offered those prosperities to a braoder public but it´s been the efforts of laws, struggles between unions and employers, social movements and civil rights movements, so that we have minimum standards for a dignified life.

  • look again

  • Wow - Great stuff. Interesting and surprising thoughts. Thanks very much for uploading.

  • Thanks for posting! Very informative.

  • how do you define onerous condition..

moreover who would get to define this?

  • Saw this before on ZNet, good intro to parecon. Thanks for posting this.
