Did you try looking at the area using google earth? You may be able to recognize old structures, among all the trees & go check them out, maybe one of them would turn out to be the shrine.
Haha! That's what I was thinking! But I like watching these videos where he's exploring old Japan. I like exploring the woods in my neighborhood, too, but there isn't much to explore. I've gone through the whole thing ;( It's not even big enough to get lost in.
