when you do a run up a scale, do you do 4 notes a string?

i think he uses the '8 note scale'

which is 4 notes in one position for every 2 strings.

like in C major on the E string ull play E, F, G A and you'll play A, B, C, D on the A string, the A on the e and a string being the same note

3 notes per string but also 4 notes per string
