I have a theory that those scenes in which the plane lands safely and the passengers go on about their lives are indicative of the future, or rather, the future past. Something will happen will reset events so that the crash never happens. The passengers will have no recollection of what happened yet what they've been through will affect them subconsciously. In this new version of history, Charlie's pissed because he no longer dies a hero and is back to being a drug addict.

This show started out really good, but got stranger and stranger. As it got further along in seasons, it made no sense. Hatches, pushing buttons to keep the world from ending. The show got more disappointing as it went along :(
