Oh, and to add to my last comment, some of the other female characters are Pi from ".hack//GU", Mitsurugi (Koubuin) Yuuhi from "Muv Luv", and Shana from "Shakugan no Shana".
@Upup2211 I think what he's implying is that if this were a 100% literal translation without American censorship, they'd be saying "fuck, ass, dipshit, jackass, bastard". Along with Japan's extreme need of being perverted, they don't care too much about keeping curse words out of the picture.
....This voice acting isn't even that bad?! Seriously people, have you even played some of the worse J-RPGs, I have heard a lot worse than this! :S Also, YES the game seems a bit weird but that doesn't automatically mean it's bad? I loved the first 2 Ar Tonelico games and I bet I'd love this one for the story as well :)
I USED to like JRPGs -once upon a time.... but now the Western audiances (the majority) are looking forward to Western RPGs such as Fallout, the Elder Scrolls and the ilk... and I guess im one of them too. The japanese role playing games lost some huge amounts of popularity in recent years IMO and their developers need to get their act together if they ever wanna make a ''come-back''.
All those recent Jrpgs are just too wierd, even for my taste...
i am not that big fan of the ar tonelico series but i am a huge JRPG fan so i played the game and i loved the story it was beautiful, the gameplay was decent it was action-based so i kinda enjoyed it for being action-based, the characters were impressive good design, the voice acting like everybody is saying that is bad, well it wasn't that bad it was OK. also i love the soundtrack they have on the game, i dont know but it made me feel more in to the game.
Would you noobs stop dissing the voice acting? Sure its not that great, but who gives a fuck? Its a game, not a muscial. Play with your hands, not your ears.
@wulf02 Ironic that you say this about a game (series) that is very much based on music and within a genre where music and sound is a very big deal. i agree the voice acting sucks and i personally feel that scenes with speech bubbles should not be voice acted but simply read, voice acting should be reserved for the scenes imo
@wulf02 You're really telling me bad voice acting doesn't impact a game? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure most people are put off by awful noises while they play. It's part of the gameplay, why wouldn't it effect it?
I have bought the limited version of this game w/ the artbook, ost cd, and the game. I first watched this video before buying the game, and I can say that, after actually playing instead of watching it here is better, in my opinion.
Overall the dubbing isn't that bad, unless you are a real sub lover, w/ original voices. This game does have the option to choose English or Japanese voices. I got a little farther in the game than this video and it reminds me of Tales kinda, in my opinion. :)
Otherwise the game looks good. What are all these weeaboos crying about?
It gets a little old listening to weeaboos reject their native language. Guess what kids, you can't understand japanese...you don't have a clue if the VA is better or not. The only difference is "ignorance is bliss". But in this case, the dubs aren't even slightly bad.
@Upup2211 What are you saying!? I completely agree with them!

Personally, I admit that this series isn't even close to the upper echelons of the JRPG, but it doesn't try to be. It's satisfied being a fantasy-scifi-visual novel-rpg mesh experience. That's what it does well. It feels a lot more humble and relaxed than other rpg series, too, which is always pleasant.
I do miss the heyday of great JRPGs, though; it's been a while since we've had a truly great one.

damn you gust..nis..whoever..you guys are seriously the master of putting out MEDIOCRE rpg's at best, arent you? seriously, step up your game. tired of buying some of this shit and it turns out below average.
@geddoe316 Hilariously enough, they're better than your average Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts/Whatever Square Enix develops.
Flaws? Sure. Enjoyable and fun? You bet your ass these games are.
On another side-note, as well, did you ever need to point out you were "a girl"? No, it wasn't necessary regarding your argument, and you only did it for the sake of "HURR GUISE IM A GURL LOL".
I was so excited when I had heard that there was to be another Ar Tonelico installment. I watched all of the Japanese videos, but the English voice actingg just kills it. Most Japanese games are killed now BECAUSE of the English voice actors. Something needs to change, either have better voice actors for a good game/series OR add the option of Japanese audio. It's just ridiculous! :p
@KomodoNoJoe This time around, supposedly the game doesn't have any game-breaking glitches nor any of that. So, rejoice, though Raki's glitch was easy to get through.
lolwtf is happening... ? Seriously what the fuck is wrong with the japanese rpg genre? Since the release of the PS3 it's all been a pile of wank. THIS is a prime example of why I still have my PS2 setup to my TV. The PS2 is THE shit.
@Madrox87 Hello, sire. I felt like pointing out one of your logical fallacies: ATQ is the third game in the series regarding the towers of Ar Tonelico, which started in the PS2. Many would agree, as well, it is a worthy sequel to said games.
Too long; didn't read? You're an idiot, as the game keeps the same mechanics and appeal its predecessors had back in the PS2 days.
@Madrox87 AT3, after playing an import, is AT1 in real time.
No, seriously. Aside from the saddening lack of different Song Magic, it really feels like AT1, just now in real time. You still have the basics of syncrhonization and harmonics, as well as the "customize the song magic for your own benefit" and whatnot.
Aside from the SM, however? The same. Skill variation, higher levels unlock more attacks, etc. You're judging the game by only seeing 30 seconds of the combat, however. So, yeah.
You see, there's a beat graph on the lower part of the screen, right? That's the beat of the song. You have to attack an enemy while keeping rythm of said song, and doing it correctly will earn you a "Beat Up". After you dive in your Reyvateil, you unlock a Purge "level", which is exactly what you perform when you can Purge. That nets the Reyvateil a stronger SM, and the Vanguard some stronger skills and attacks. I'll continue in next post....
@killerricardo94@Madrox87 Aha, so, enough Beat Ups, and your Reyvateil Purges. The deeper you purge, the stronger your Vanguard gets. Think of it as the Harmonic Levels in AT1. You also have the same number of characters, a Reyvateil and three Vanguards. You see, you usually HAVE to protect your Reyvateil. She's kind of weak, like in the other games. Enemies get close to her, she loses HP. Enemies attack her, she's dead.
@killerricardo94@Madrox87 To avoid having her die, you have a certain attack, "Blow", that will kick away enemies that are close to the Reyvateil. Of course, you can't spam this, so you have to do your own part, too. Protect her and attack the enemies alike, and the victory is yours.
Honestly, as I said, it's AT1 with a hint of Star Ocean. The only complaint I have regarding the Battle System is that the partner A.I. is retarded, but that's about it. Everything else is the same. The. Same.
@TranceAnton Leaving aside your horrible way of typing, and a my week-late response, yes, that is the gameplay. However, as someone mentioned, it isn't the "full" gameplay, as a whole. You see, Ar Tonelico games usually have you focusing on protecting your "Reyvateil", a girl, in the game while she sings, charging up her magic, which is hilariously overpowered. Your main goal in the game is synchronize with the songs of battle, and protect your Reyvateil.
@theonik2006 I hope so. That'll be a deal breaker for me. I'm pretty sure AT2 included a Japanese dub, although it was incomplete (I assume because of disc space).
Ar Tonelico = Most underrated RPG series ever localized in the US. AR 1 and 2 were amazing. Can't wait to see how the dive and Reyvateil system works in this.
English dub sounds fine, so good job Nis. Some people need to stop complaining about the voices. If it makes you feel better I am pretty sure it has dual audio since neptunia has it.
Also, for everyone else who's harping on the gameplay: what can you comment on the battle system if the true mechanics on it (Reyvateils, Purges, Hymmas, Harmography, Blows, Skills, Deathblows, etc.) haven't even been introduced yet? It's the same as trying to judge the battle systems of the previous two games when there aren't any Reyvateils in the party, in which case they aren't even a 5% of what they truly are.
@YouRunForReal If you think about it objectively, the word of "Lyrics" might encompass simple songs and prayers for the goddess. Hymmn and Hymmnos in Ar Tonelico usually refer to the language, not songs nor prayers.
And besides, for the 10 minutes we've seen, the translation looks pretty well done- the script flows pretty good in English, while avoiding to come off as bland or simply retarded, as many English-to-Japanese direct translations tend to do.
@killerricardo94@YouRunForReal Actually, and having seen the original JP introduction, the words said in there are exactly the same, word by word, as the words we can see in the OP video for Melody of Elemia, but maybe they changed how they were said in Qoga for more dramatic effect, although personally I've preferred if they had left "Songs" in there instead of "Lyrics". That aside, the translation and editing quality look top-notch so far, and I hope it doesn't fall behind later on.
why they changed the "Hymmnos" word for "Lyrics" ? I remember that in AT1 the songs were called Hymmnos in both. Japanese and English translation too no? And AT1 was better traduction than the second one in terms of the Hymmnos language translations i think
@manywelps haha that's not what i meant, actually i think the ENG voices are not bad and the story looks promising, but... the gameplay part is kinda disapointing....well Maybe cus it is the first battle idk
@polloNOOBkiter The gameplay is much better than that tutorial. The only avaible in that battle is attacking and running. The other ATs were boring without the Reyvateils too :D
Seems like another niche game (not surprising though, since the first one was too). At least the voice acting isn't quite as wooden as previous installments.
@alza3em17294 Those are quite shallow and empty statements, my friend.
Moreover, I actually found the blend of 2D and 3D to be quite appealing, at least visually- the only drawback was the battle scene, on where textures looked bland. On the plus side, however, character models still looked quite good.
However, can you comment on gameplay simply by looking at what, 30 seconds of it?
You aren't even trying to properly troll, sire. Grow up.
@shadowthehedgehog181 It's true. While most English speakers are like "ew, English, give us Japanese voices", there are several Japanese people I know that are like "ew, Japanese, give us English voices."
In any case, here's hoping an option to select between both is available.
As I said, ignorance is a bliss. People who like Japanese things, but don't speak the language generally tend to like it better. But if you speak it or at least had exposure to it, you'll start to see the flaws some of the speakers have. Japanese actors are not better, mostly because they tend to 'overact' their parts and most of them sound TOO similar to one another. I tried playing Eternal Sonata in Japanese and it irritated the hell out of me.
I'm talking about exposure as far as speaking/learning the language and interacting with the Japanese. And if you see those flaws, it should be apparent that neither language is better than the other when it comes to subs and dubs.
@shadowthehedgehog181 i know what you mean by exposure like i said i lived there for a while
ok all im saying is bad english voices piss me off bad japanese voices dont bother me and just are unnoticable if im watching anime or playing a game in public
so ok i was wrong to say its better i just prefer it
is this game fun? im thinking of getting it.. along with those other NIS games lol

On another side-note, as well, did you ever need to point out you were "a girl"? No, it wasn't necessary regarding your argument, and you only did it for the sake of "HURR GUISE IM A GURL LOL".
I hate people like you, let us make this clear.

ShootingPandas 1 year ago
@ShootingPandas There IS the option for Jap Subs, silly.
It's been said to hell and back the game WILL have the option.

@killerricardo94 "Subs"? Meant dubs there.

can you choose japanese voice in the english version?
TurkishHegemony 1 year ago
@TurkishHegemony Yes, yes you can.
@KomodoNoJoe This time around, supposedly the game doesn't have any game-breaking glitches nor any of that. So, rejoice, though Raki's glitch was easy to get through.
@ipamocrono
Very funny, sire.
killerricardo94 1 year ago
lolwtf is happening... ? Seriously what the fuck is wrong with the japanese rpg genre? Since the release of the PS3 it's all been a pile of wank. THIS is a prime example of why I still have my PS2 setup to my TV. The PS2 is THE shit.
Madrox87 1 year ago 5
@Madrox87 Hello, sire. I felt like pointing out one of your logical fallacies: ATQ is the third game in the series regarding the towers of Ar Tonelico, which started in the PS2. Many would agree, as well, it is a worthy sequel to said games.
Too long; didn't read? You're an idiot, as the game keeps the same mechanics and appeal its predecessors had back in the PS2 days.
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@killerricardo94
I sense troll. Either way, I'm going to reply.
How in the fuck does this game keep the same mechanics? Look at the fucking battles. Have you even played Ar Tonelico 1&2?
There has clearly been a lack of effort .
Madrox87 1 year ago
@Madrox87 AT3, after playing an import, is AT1 in real time.
No, seriously. Aside from the saddening lack of different Song Magic, it really feels like AT1, just now in real time. You still have the basics of syncrhonization and harmonics, as well as the "customize the song magic for your own benefit" and whatnot.
Aside from the SM, however? The same. Skill variation, higher levels unlock more attacks, etc. You're judging the game by only seeing 30 seconds of the combat, however. So, yeah.
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@Madrox87 Alright, to explain the combat...
I'll continue in next post....
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@killerricardo94 @Madrox87 Aha, so, enough Beat Ups, and your Reyvateil Purges.
Continued Next Post. Goddamn.
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@killerricardo94 @Madrox87 To avoid having her die, you have a certain attack, "Blow", that will kick away enemies that are close to the Reyvateil.
The. Same.

TranceAnton 1 year ago
@TranceAnton Leaving aside your horrible way of typing, and a my week-late response, yes, that is the gameplay. However, as someone mentioned, it isn't the "full" gameplay, as a whole. You see, Ar Tonelico games usually have you focusing on protecting your "Reyvateil", a girl, in the game while she sings, charging up her magic, which is hilariously overpowered. Your main goal in the game is synchronize with the songs of battle, and protect your Reyvateil.
But yeah, keep runnin' off yer mouth.

@theonik2006 I hope so. That'll be a deal breaker for me. I'm pretty sure AT2 included a Japanese dub, although it was incomplete (I assume because of disc space).

Also, for everyone else who's harping on the gameplay: what can you comment on the battle system if the true mechanics on it (Reyvateils, Purges, Hymmas, Harmography, Blows, Skills, Deathblows, etc.) haven't even been introduced yet? It's the same as trying to judge the battle systems of the previous two games when there aren't any Reyvateils in the party, in which case they aren't even a 5% of what they truly are.
suiryuukishi 1 year ago
It's Hymm(or Hymmnos) not Lyric. Gah. It seem NIS America do things wrong like Ar tonelico 2 again.
But honesty, it better than nothing.
YouRunForReal 1 year ago
@YouRunForReal If you think about it objectively, the word of "Lyrics" might encompass simple songs and prayers for the goddess. Hymmn and Hymmnos in Ar Tonelico usually refer to the language, not songs nor prayers.
And besides, for the 10 minutes we've seen, the translation looks pretty well done- the script flows pretty good in English, while avoiding to come off as bland or simply retarded, as many English-to-Japanese direct translations tend to do.
Just saying, though.
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@killerricardo94 @YouRunForReal Actually, and having seen the original JP introduction, the words said in there are exactly the same, word by word, as the words we can see in the OP video for Melody of Elemia, but maybe they changed how they were said in Qoga for more dramatic effect, although personally I've preferred if they had left "Songs" in there instead of "Lyrics". That aside, the translation and editing quality look top-notch so far, and I hope it doesn't fall behind later on.
suiryuukishi 1 year ago
why they changed the "Hymmnos" word for "Lyrics" ? I remember that in AT1 the songs were called Hymmnos in both. Japanese and English translation too no? And AT1 was better traduction than the second one in terms of the Hymmnos language translations i think

@alza3em17294 Hilariously enough, there are people that would pay 60$ and MORE for this game.
Moreover, may I ask the reasons of why you'd make such a comment?
killerricardo94 1 year ago
@killerricardo94 simple,, worst voice acting, graphics, animations and gameplay I eva seen in my life
alza3em17294 1 year ago
@alza3em17294 you haven't seen Chaos War, that has even far worse of the 3 you mention.
Other than that i actually had fun playing the jpn version, although i probably won't get the english version because i got the jpn version.
Byuukai 1 year ago

@chosenone234
I tried playing Eternal Sonata in Japanese and it irritated the hell out of me.
shadowthehedgehog181 1 year ago
@shadowthehedgehog181 i have had alot of exposure to japanese by visiting and watching japanese tv online
i see the flaws and 3yes it is probably because im english but it just doesnt bother be
chosenone234 1 year ago
@chosenone234
I'm talking about exposure as far as speaking/learning the language and interacting with the Japanese. And if you see those flaws, it should be apparent that neither language is better than the other when it comes to subs and dubs.
shadowthehedgehog181 1 year ago
@shadowthehedgehog181 i know what you mean by exposure like i said i lived there for a while
ok all im saying is bad english voices piss me off bad japanese voices dont bother me and just are unnoticable if im watching anime or playing a game in public
so ok i was wrong to say its better i just prefer it
