@xsaradriver1 it is mainly because on very crappy days where instrument navigation is crucial, we do not want any extra electrical waves shooting throughout the airplane which could mess up the navigation even just a bit, which in aviation, is A LOT! also, think about, one person using their phone, whatever thats fine the airplane could take that, but imagine what it would be like if half the people on a 747 had their cell phones on, that's 250 phones, that's a lot of signals!!

I can't make out what aircraft it is, panel looks like B737-300/400/500 generation but the annunciators on the left side of the engine gauges are a bit comfusing it could be an MD80
