The coils work "independently" untill you throw a layer on top of it then it's just like any coil spring mattress. Mine sagged really bad in the center of it after 6 months and I would roll and lean towards the center. If there is two of you DO NOT buy the mattress. You will lean and sag towards the middle. I weigh 155 and my gf weighs about the same maybe 145-150. NECK AND BACK PAINS!!!!
