  • It looks like NOLA's 9th ward.

  • i grow up on pilgrem nd hamiton

  • Brilliant analysis. Don't get mad, get even.

  • this is my city

  • I grew up on Geneva between second and third st. White Flight is the reason this has happened to Detroit and Highland Park. We fled the area 3 years after the race riots in 1967.

  • Education is key... Its no longer cool to be dumb... this is what you get when you have one industry and a poor education system in a large city.

  • This is the city that I was raised and graduated in. And now I am Tommie Green, lol. I will do ANYTHING I can to give back to the city that made me the man that I am. It's all a matter of time. I Love You, HP, The Worst Is Over :)

  • as someone who grew up in detroit in its hayday, I am 69 now, it saddens me to see what has happened to detroit. I moved to europe in 1990 and live near munich with my wife. In the 50s, detroit was very middle class. no its no class. the blacks suffered the most because most of the low paying jobs moved to china. Herry ford brought prosperity to americas middle class. now we are just a 3 rd world country

  • Real estate developers trying to make big $ helped ruin Highland Park before white flight. They developed communities outside of the city and needed residents so they used some shady tactics to do so.

  • @McOddz313 Realtors were/are a big part of the problem here, also; they get "incentives" in many ways for taking "nice" neighborhoods and moving in people very socialized into the new Welfare-Warfare Statist Mentality put into the U.S. after the WWII. All the people are socialized as Dependents (welfare or warfare). As they "grow their own way" of seeing the world, they reproduce themselves. They eat the creative people alive.

  • this is crazy

  • Good Job! I have added this video to my channel for the benefit of my Urban Economics students at Wayne State University. --John Sase

  • On an unrelated note - My God! You've got real socialists!

We've only got George Galloway :-(

  • Mad Max beyond the highland park. Max this time around must fight his way out of the decayed setting of Michigan.

  • i graduted fr HPCHS in 96 however i have now moved out of state, When i do visit home it maks me want to cry. I would have never imagined it would look like this now. HP was a very nice city once upon a time!!

  • i used to live in highland park.

  • I know highland Park I LIVED IN A CITY RIGHT BY Highland Park called Hamtramck...It aint all nice over there either

  • Mayor Yopp needs a job description.

  • lived next to HP in Palmer Woods and..... UGH!

  • The downfall of Detroit and Highland Park was after the riots. I lived in HP and remember it was a safe city prior to the riots. In 1968 my mother got mugged. By 1970 it was a combat zone. All this was done by my fellow sole brothers. Not a safe place to live in HP or Detroit.

  • white flight

  • I grew up in HP and went to HP high in '84. A lot of horror stories I remember as a kid, but I had some good times with my family.

  • Born at HP general, and left in 1986. America needs to know the story of H.P.

  • I was born and raised in HP. My grandparents were the first black family to live on the East Side of Woodward and their home was destroyed before they could even move in. I blame it all on poor leadership. My grandma got the first Blackwell out of office. It's time to get the second one out.

  • how did I know I would find you here.

  • LONG LIVE H.P. I believe in you and I know that THIS, TOO, SHALL PASS. The best is yet to come! "keep hope alive

     -Mangia J. Robinson.

  • I lived in HP from 1941 to 1965 and was a cop there too. I've seen it all!

    Doug Kalish

  • Doug You didn't see it all. After the riots, Highland Park and Detroit was a combat zone by 1970.

  • @jimbobm3121 The deterioration started but it wasn't bad until the late 70s, going into the '80s. I use to get equipment from a local merchant up until 1974.

  • i live here

  • I grew up there! 1964 to 1976 soooo sad!
