  • Lol I thought it was hang on snoopy

  • The guitarist was named Rick Zehringer, later changing his name to Rick Derringer. He wrote and performed Rock And Roll Hootchie Koo. He worked with Edgar Winter, Todd Rundgren, and many others. His brother is the drummer.

  • AHAHAHAHA!!!! When I was a small kid in south texas, I thought the song was about Snoopy the dog. I actually liked it because I thought it was about the dog. Oh well. I like how the drummer stopped "playing" for a brief period in this video to show the world that they were not really playing. YES!!!! I'm a drummer and would've done the same thing. I'm pretty sure he was pissed that they weren't actually going to play the song and did it as a form of protest. Drummers baby! \m/

  • en mi pais la urtaron y le pusieron ''lupe''

jajaja pero la original es la mejor

  • I've never known any girls named Sloopy....have you?

  • @tinman3012 hahaha no...

  • Rick Derringer is only 18 (maybe 17 depending on the month of this recording) in this video--I KNEW he looked young!

  • Who wrote this song? And what other songs did he or she write tha we might have heard of?

  • Someone get the cute drummer a chair!

  • @ilovedatasoong That drummer is Rick Derringer's little brother,

  • @girlmusic2remember So the two cutest members of this band are related? I should have known!

  • bellissimo♥

  • Ever since the 60's - I find it impossible to keep still when I hear this. I must tap my foot, if nothing else.

Now I play these classic rock songs during a long drive or when I need to work around the house. Always makes whatever I need to do a bit more enjoyable and gives me energy.

  • @MsZathras You have that pegged rite ON! I always play The '70s channel, when working in the house, OR whenever I've had ANY kind of unpleasantries in my Day!!Always brings me up!!!

  • This 45 rpm record was part of my sister's collection she gave to me when she "ran away from home" LOL We all run away from home, right? I always thought it was "Hang On, Snoopy" after the Peanuts Cartoon dog. But now that I've grown, I still remember the song as the first time I heard it.

  • Despite I agree with CBeliever, and even the guitars don´t have their cables, I can´t help find myself enjoying this song with such hypnotic sounds.

  • what town u from

  • Thumbs up if you're from O-H-I-O!!!

  • @1bam159 i live in bradford

  • all star band ! :D

  • That Rick Derringer ALways Looks SOOO Happy.... i love this stuff

  • Supermullers, this song, from 1965, pre-dates the Bubblegum music era, which bascially ran 1967-1972. This is just a good old rock n roll song of the period. I remember when it came out.

  • I'll bet this is Top of the Pops they're on, they always record the music beforehand and the players just lip-sync or... instrument-sync, whatever you would call that. occasionally the singer would actually be singing, but I have a feeling none of the players are actually playing. They're goofing about too much.

  • Man, I had no idea the lead singer was that hot! You'd be hard-pressed to find a modern-day song this sexy!

  • Classic! ..and one heck of guitar solo!

  • Growing up,I thought they said hang on snoopy.

  • whooooo issssss sloooooopy

  • Music meant something.

  • DAMN THE DRUMMER IS SO FREAKING CUTE

  • @jordanreilich probably when we noticed that it wasn't easy to use the pedal on both the bass drum and the high hat when standing.

  • That drummer's getting an awful lot of percussive sound by hitting thin air and his own arms.

  • Have no idea how or why this became a staple of the OSU band, but now it just says "Buckeyes" to me! That's fine! The OSU band is of course TBDBITL!!!

  • Rick was born and grew up right down the road from here, pretty cool!

  • Good beat to this song,I think that's the best thing about it and have a good dance to it as well.

  • Geeeezus Christ!

Zerringer looks like he's in 7th grade!

    LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

  • Rick & the Raiders! .....anyone remember?

  • good ole rick derringer.

  • What the hell was that at 1:06?

  • @TheTexasTodd It seems like he spit, didn't he?

  • This video sounds just like when I heard the tune for the very first time as a teenager...and that was "when it hit the airwaves and the charts" in the late 60's!

    Great post! Thanks!

  • OHIOIAN 4 LIFE!

  • And Rick is from my hometown in Ohio

  • O-H-I-O!!!!!

  • And I thought it was Snoopy.

  • I saw them at North Side Coliseum in Fort Worth, Tx along with the Beau Brummels and Freddy and the Dreamers. I thought he was great back then on guitar.

  • This is the offical rock and roll song of the state of Ohio!!!!!

  • @lumpisola GO BUCKEYES!!!

  • @lumpisola O. H!

  • i always thought they were saying hang on snoopy

  • Didn't Bubblegum rock come out in the late 60s?

  • I always thought they were singing, Snoopy! ahahahahah. #Epicfail

  • Like the hat and 'the stare' from the bass player.

  • I'm black and I love this music

  • @LoveEducateLearn92 Are you 4 years old?

  • I saw Rick today singing this song with Ringo's All Star Band. It was sooo great! I remembered of this one, love it!

  • I lover

  • Good old american rock and roll!

  • CLASSIC!

  • i love this one but i thought it was SNOOPY instead of sloopy....DAMN!!! :)

  • @123jojogurl You're not the only one, I thought it was Snoopy too :-P

  • i love this

  • are they saying "Hey hang on stupid hang on" hmmmmm

  • oldies...... HS days!

  • 2:33, FUNNIEST PART EVER!

  • Playback ! they are not even used to it yet !! the drummer is the only one who can make a sound thats why he laugh !!

  • Playback ! they are not even used to it yet !!

  • Love this video! OMG the drummer keeps making faces. You can tell Rick and him are brothers!

  • @2madlia2 thanx 4 the vid of me member 2 put it on my account

  • @2madlia2 They are so young and cute. Looks like they were having a lot of fun.

  • When I was little, I thought they were saying "hang on, Stupid."

  • @narutoyugi15 They were...

  • @narutoyugi15 That's funny. haha. Now that you mention it, it does sound like Stupid. That's called a mondegren. When you think the words to a song are different than what they really are. When I was young, Sam Cooke had a song called, "Twistin' the Night Away." I didn't understand why he sang, "Here's another chicken slacks." I asked my older cousin and she said he was singing, "Here's another chick in slacks." haha.

  • @narutoyugi15 I always thought it was Snoopy!

  • @narutoyugi15 thought i was the only 1

  • @narutoyugi15 huhuhuhuhuhh!!! i almost peed when i read your post, it really made me laugh. from now i can no longer hear the song without laughing out loud

  • @narutoyugi15 sooooooo funny - me too!!!!!

  • @narutoyugi15 Hahahaha

  • @narutoyugi15 lol, thats funny

  • Rick D looks about 14 years old here

  • Maybe I'm imagining things, but doesn't this song actually sound similar to "You've lost that loving feeling" by the righteous brothers? Listen after the 2 minute mark of the Righteous brothers song when instruments are added into the song, similar chords and progression. Just an observation, anyone agree?

  • Rick Derringer is a very under-rated guitar player from the 60s. He really was great. Google him.

  • @golyg thanx for the info

  • I have no idea.

  • What is a sloopy, I always thought they said snoopy...lmao

  • @tricianfred Is named for singer Dorothy Sloop, who used te name

    "Sloopy" on stage.

  • the drummer is probably one of the best "lip-syncers" ever haha

  • used to listen to this on vinyl

  • We used to sing this all day playing baseball or playing in the woods or hanging out in the creek.. Back then we thought it was Snoopy, but we were little dumb kids..what did we know?

  • Nothing is plugged in and there are no microphones. The drummer isn't even hitting the drum heads.

  • anyone notice the drummer ain't hittin' nuthin'. gotta love those Sixties "live appearances". fantastic song, for sure....

  • Not Bubble Gum at All!1 They Rocked up an R&B Classic.'My Girl Sloopy' was the original tile. Check out a young Rick Derringer!!!

  • I like sloopy...I don't know where it came from but I like it! It just fits!

  • #269 KHJ top 300 songs of the 60s

  • "Haaaaang on stupid, stupid, hang on"! XD Don't get me wrong, despite the unfortunate similarity to the word "stupid", this song is AWESOME! (Although I can't really figure out why they chose to name the girl "Sloopy"...

  • @charlies86angel They didn't do this originally, they didn't write it. In music it all goes; 'Rama Lama Ding dong' was also a girls name,& later on 'Sussudio'!!

  • ohhhh, i sooooooooooo misssssssssss the 60ssssssssssss

  • oh wat a song....good tune yeh........

  • Saw Rick along with his band.He brought the house down with this classic.Still knows how to jam.

  • Great song... but really sloopy, why sloopy of all possible nicknames?

  • @AuntieDeirdre The name Sloopy is used because the songwriters (Wes Farrell and Bert Russell) admired jazz singer Dorothy Sloop (stage name: Sloopy) so they featured her nickname in their little ditty, and the rest is history!

  • so much better than the rap shiite that we get today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In my all time top 5 peggypie04's words more eloquent

  • muito lindo

  • When I was six in 1966, my older sister would get pissed whenever we would mess with her collection of 45's. This was one song she would play all the time.

  • I'm confused. They're not actually playing their instruments in the video. Is that normal? I assume they actually played in their concerts right?

  • @zzshorty2 It was the norm for bands to fake playing their instruments back then. Alot of artists refused to appear on tv because of that. Believe me Rick Derringer played his guitar when they played live

  • Amazing that the teenagers of that generation were the originators, driving force and innovators of rock and roll. Hard to imagine the Justin Biebers and Miley Cyrus's being leaders in the music industry now.

  • I saw Tom Petty do this live Perfectly executed..He asked the sensors if it was okay to play it..remember the controversy over this ( and a few others>> BULLY BULLY) on the radio stations.. lol great song

  • dam they did even really play back then either. the drumer needs to learn how to fake it better lol

  • what the hell happened to music? we went from this... to what, LADY GAGA? ugh,

  • ahhhh yes, Derringer had to be about 18 or 19 here ...#1 hit back in '65. Amazing! That became a "Rock" standard.

  • Reminds me of the 7th grade in 1965!!

  • swing time..

  • Oh, I LOVE this song! China Beach.... sweetness! Why aren't there songs like this anymore? I was totally born in the wrong decade!

  • Thumbs up if you thought they were singing "Hang on SNOOPY"

  • @kryptonitebullet179 Haha..I did when I was real little..good one!!!

  • @lemonadehippie1978: Thanks. :-)

  • awesome era

    with awesome music

    awesome singers

and the guys were way cuter than today they actually looked like men

    not like 12 yrs old.

  • MASTERPIECE !

  • Classic! Thanks Jeanette (LVEMEDO) for the share!

  • go buckeyes

  • snoopy or sloopy :D who gives

    SUCH an awesome track :)

  • I saw them when they were Rick and the Raiders, playing High School sock hops in Dayton, Ohio. They had to change their name bacause of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Man I miss those days and the music of the 60's.

  • Whoohoo Ohio! :3

  • Yes! Rock & roll has soul, real rhythmn. I hate synthetic music! I even love garage rock. The 60's music is the best ever produced---classic. Today's music is so.......angry! Why??

  • Classic..... the roots of rock and roll.... in the beginning.... thanks fior sharing.

  • This is music!!! ROCK&ROLL RULES!!! regueton sucks!!!!

  • i just learned something i never knew. rick derringer fronted the mccoy's. i first became familiar with his work when he was with edgar winter.

  • @fidoshark It is the official song of the state of Ohio i believe. That aint no punk b*tch.

  • I can't believe how many people covered "My Girl Sloopy".

  • I'm glad that my last name is McCoy.

  • O-H !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @filmit50 -I-O!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @filmit50

    I O!

  • Rick Derringer vocals.

  • I just got home from seeing Rick Derringer in concert tonight, and he and his band did this, it was totally amazing to hear him perform this song 45 years after he performed it on this show.

  • :D makes me dance

  • damn... this is just too corny for me. the screaming, random ass guitar solo... i don't mind pop, but this just isn't catchy enough, in my opinion.

  • @pimpsonparade Why, because its not Beiber?

  • @FanOfPopCulture oh noooooo! personally, i can't stand Bieber. this is 1000x better any day of the week. actually, i watched this video again, and i guess i was a little harsh at first. not really cheesy to a ridiculous level, just a little too 60's pop rock band-ish for me, i guess? i prefer hard rock, metal, and a bit of grunge.

  • I always enjoyed listening to this song on the radio.

  • Derringer...!!! (as a youth)

  • OH! (reply with IO if ur a true ohio state fan)

  • @Savvyboy15 I-O BABYYYYYY!!!!!!! =)

  • i always thought it was hang on snoopy lol

  • @papiiuenvy186 I always thought it was "Hay yon stupid stupid hang-a hong" xD

  • It's funny seeing this as just a regular song, before being linked to OSU. How did that happen anyway?

  • GO BUCKS MICHIGAN SUCKS WE GOT THE RIGHT TO THEIR BUTTS!!!

  • Go Buckeye's!!!!!!!!!!!! WoooooooHHHHHHHHoooooooooooo!!!!

  • The singer is so cute, and I love this song :)

  • love it forever!

  • yeah baby

  • @Bargle5: Of course the clowning around is only possible since they are lip syncing like 90% of acts on TV at the time.

  • @Bargle5: Of the clowning around is only possible since they are lip syncing like 90% of acts on TV at the time.

  • go ohio

  • American High Schools band love plays this song. Big smash hit all over the world. In Brazil was recorded bay LENO & LILIAN by the tittle POBRE MENINA ( POOR GIRL).

  • GO OHIO WHOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • How many times did I hear this in Pasquale's (Johnny's Bar) in Vicenza, Italy 1964-66. Even got to go back in '93 to say hello

  • another one of my oldtime favs

  • O-H-I-O

  • I just saw good ol' Rick there playing Hang On Sloopy with good ol' Ringo in concert. And a bunch of other old farts in skinny jeans.

You never lose rock n' roll, do you?

  • @fweeness I saw Rick yesterday on stage with Ringo. Rick did the most amazing guitar solo. An incredible concert.

  • @fweeness i was at the same concert!

  • @fweeness you need fluoxatine

  • good song

  • ES LUPE, LUPITA MI AMOR!!!

  • I used to play this over and over when I was 8. My mom gave me all her vinyl, so thanks to this little 45, Im crazy about rock n roll. Thanks for posting this video!

  • Great song. Great band. A great time in history. Timeless. Where did our innocence go?

  • @peggypie04 america was never innocent sweety :(

  • @peggypie04

    Vietnam......

  • @peggypie04 yes, and the talent as well? Every one of those guys could sing, derringers guitar licks are perfectly thought out and timed. Drummer is the definition of a POCKET. Bass player is interacting with the crowd and the keyboardist. They nailed it and they never moved. Nowadays its always just smoke and mirrors, synthesizers and sex.

  • @peggypie04 It was a great time in history, we shouldn't yearn for the past, but appreciate it for what it was and find our own happiness :)

  • @peggypie04 Well, they invented FM radio, sold tons of records & concert tickets, filled stadiums, and awarded platinum records. When you make it a commercial enterprise to this degree, there goes the innocence. That's capitalism. Ask Led Zeppelin.

  • @peggypie04 the innocence was never there in the first place
