  • mr. pc play that stuff boy!

  • If you like this video subcribe to my other channel (yes this is marcus from this video) and there will be much more to come

  • @MarcusWheatMusic bro i went to elsik, thats by far the best trumpet playing i heard in a highschool like that

  • Very good job

  • I'll be looking for your CD soon!....

  • ye good

  • bravo. holy cow.

  • im his sister ^.^

good job marcus..even though you did this is like 9th grade..your getting old college man :]

    see you later bro

  • Ah, the ego of a good trumpet player. That's how I know you'll be great someday! (Just don't let it inflate too much (Mark Gould, for instance))

  • that was great! i know when you get into school you'll be spending more time developing your sound and the jazz language. its great to hear an aspiring jazz musician. what are you doing to practice your improvisation. hope to hear more of you!!

  • sounds great man.

  • yeah elsik in alief i just left

  • @ehstrumpet08 whats up man i just started my fresh man year at ehs and i play trumpet and i was gonaa ask u do u remember the ehs trumpet fanfare??

  • do you know a guy named scott at north texas

  • wow I really enjoyed listening to you. I hope your hard work pays off.

    GL man :)

  • WOAH never quit playing or me and a bunch of other people will hunt you down because now we know what college you are going to and your high school WHAT but really that was awesome except a little more work on those higher notes which is something you have already heard so GOOD JOB!!!

  • elsik highschool in alief?

  • you could be a professional some day. it may be the lighting but it looks like you have embouchure issues--and that would explain your difficulty with the upper register. i also agree that one of your biggest weaknesses in use of air. you'll get much better. i'm just offering some productive criticism. good luck, hope to hear you on the big stage someday.

  • Wow. You're really good, but I think you already know that. Please continue to play the trumpet for the rest of your life.

  • very nice playing, I'm going to have to agree on the more ideas and less streams of notes "in my opinion", unless thats what you were aiming for in which case A+.

  • man good job marcus hope you good luck in collage see you back in houston

  • Not bad, man. The one thing I'd definitely recommend is to listen to some older players like Charlie Shavers,Fats Navarro and some Chet, Miles and Art Farmer. You've got ideas but I think you need to spend some time listening to guys who just don't play a bunch of notes but play ideas. Sometimes, the best solos have lesser notes. Just keep listening to different players and absorbing ideas.

  • good job man. ill be at north texas in 2 years, or somewhere just as good :p

  • fuck you

  • mr PC for the win

  • wow due that is nice im in holub middle about to go to hs

hope to be like u nd make all state

    good luk in high skool

  • This is great. You should sell some of your stuff (if you have any scores and I'm not being sarcastic).

  • pretty decent....i mean not too many ideas just running lines, which is not really indicative of skill just muscle memory of the scale associated with the song, but nice lip trill. I really enjoyed it, just got repetitive.

  • Brilliant Improvisation !! Love it

  • good playing for HS. and nice style, your time will get better at North Texas. props on the berp, hahahaha

  • dude you sat by me at state! you can really improv i am impressed. best of luck at north texas i might be joining you haha. we'll see.

  • This is an all-state player?

    Eh, he's ok. I don't think all-state capable tho.

I admit he's better than some of the trumpet players at my school but I've heard better.

I like how he hit the high notes though. :]

  • he's not faking...

you can see the corners of his cheeks.

He's just pretty good at improve.

  • You are really fakin super great trumpet player man! from Córdoba Argentina. i hope play like that someday. keep playing, you gat jazz in the blood.

  • practice, practice, practice(wait a minute i sound like Allen Iverson)no but seriously i wish you luck in college and if you really want to kick some ass practice is the key!from a trumpet player in Galveston Texas.what dey know bout dem Texas boys huh!!!

  • lol do you know david? hes a all-state trumpet too from la joya

  • Are you from the Pennsylvania area? I'm making that guess from your Jersey, of course you can like the team and live somewhere else. Sounds good man. Are you a Senior currently?

  • my friend is 7th grade in all state and he as good as u XD

  • haha..its marcus

  • Keep doing what you're doing man. I like what I hear. Put in the practice time, and you'll only get better. Best wishes in college. I look to hear more from you in the future!

  • he blowin

  • wow i bet you are wearing a white hood right now

  • Forget about the All state shit and any other worthless meaningless awards you may have won in high school. You are headed to NTSU. There will be tons of cats that can play circles around your ass. You can catch up. Hard work is the great equalizer. You have a nice feel. Develop YOUR sound on the horn. get more air through the horn. The BEST thing you have going for you is your AGE. You have the basics, NOW the rest is up to you. Good luck man.

  • dang i dont know if i should take offense to that or what lol but yea i know im working

  • @ehstrumpet08 The guy is right that "All-State" means nothing in the scope of your whole career (I was lead in my All-State Jazz band, & it doesn't mean shit to me now) BUT, It is an accolade that sets you apart from other HS players. Just don't congratulate yourself too much & work your ass off. You're off to a great start. Listen & absorb as much as you can so your solos are more varied, and FIND YOUR OWN VOICE. Think "Roy Hargrove", NOT Terrance Blanchard or Wynton.

    Go get 'em, kid.

  • hey =]

    i play trumpet too

    your really good =]

    you inspire me XD

    creepy huh lol

  • hey man you have some nice stuff in there... i really like your sense of time in your solo and i can tell that you are very fluent in technical aspects... keep it up bro! good luck at NT man

  • i tried out for all state but only made district =( but im only 13 so

  • man when u caught the groove i really started to gig what you were doing.

  • Your not letting your air do all the work! Your using all facial tension. That's why your tone starts to get pinched as climb the registers. Relax the face and let the air do the work!

  • dude u got an amazing jazz thing goin on!! keep pursuing that! ur gonna accomplish unbelievable things!

  • love the jazz element. sounds really great. i wish my fingers would move that fast lol

  • hes only pushing fs and ds and es thats all

  • You trumpet players are always focused on range. I wish you focused on this mans chops. He had some interesting lines and for a trumpet player, his licks our pretty clean. A lot of his licks sound like sax lines. I happen to be a sax player and I enjoy listening to other horn players tear up what we are known for. Also some players are known for range and others are known for other strengths. I have to admit, if he developed his higher range, he would be more complete.

  • I co-sign jvargas. As a trumpet player, all I see is folks worrying about the altissimo range and the lower and middle ranges suffer. This cat here is jazzin dis bitch up with style and I like it. Miles Davis didn't give a shit about range. Instead, he was able to play a more lyrical style.

  • is that a stradivarious?

  • yamaha xeno

  • o man...you too? lol

  • You're really good, I like your tone, it's different than alot of players. :)

You've got the flat finger syndrom though. lol, but still, great job.

  • true talent, nice.

  • You appear to press really hard on your C above the staff and higher, but VERY cool and nicely done.

  • im cynthia but im using my sisters account. man i play trumpet and im in 9th grade its so hrad but now im getting used to it. dud ur freakin good. TEACH ME!lol.ur gonna get a scholorship for sure!:]

  • nice job marcus

  • Nice, but range. Your upper notes aren't very strong.

  • You got me jazzed!

  • gj man i play trumpet miii self man i ran miii jazzz band in 8th grade i'm in 9th grade now but damm we won first place in alll these competetions that miii and director never got 1st in in her 12 years but i'm no where close to as good as u man

  • If you want a scholarship you'll need to improve your range. Even then it is somewhat lacking. A good song can only make up for a mediocre player so far.

  • nice solo, great speed and patterns. though the four sixteenths to a quarter note got kinda old. You'll get a scholarship no problem, i haven't heard many highschool trumpet players who solo like you. just stay focused, always thing melodically.

  • Frikin awsome teach me :)

  • You are so gangsta, with the jersey and the classic, i mean jazz tune goin on.....you'd make it to Baylor....anywhere w/flyin colors!

  • Nice job of Mr.PC. Me (trombone) and my dad (saxophone) play this all the time. I like your long solo, and you added a lot of cool grace notes and other stuff to main melody and made it sound pretty cool. Keep up the good work.

  • you're awesome.

  • niiccceeeeee

  • all this talk of mouthpeices. You use what works for you. If you can hook a funnel up to the thing and you get the sound you're lookin for, who cares?

  • dude! mouth pieces are so important, this guy is awesome

  • Dude, you shouldn't have a problem getting a scholarship, especially if you go to a public university

  • cool, youre really good

  • You play well can you play some techincal exercises so we can get a feel of how your techique. You play good no matter how old you are. Use more dynamics, and just keep practicing.

  • You have a good foundation. Try to use more air when you get into the upper register, it'll help you aim at the "center" of the pitch more consistently. Also, I'd lose the BERP when you're performing; it suppresses the lower harmonics in your sound. Good work, though!

  • how in the world is something that goes on the outside of your trumpet going to suppress his sound?

  • i hate the way the video camera picks up trumpet's sound...it sounds completely different

  • pretty nice

  • Wonder what size mouth piece he used

  • I use a 1c

  • Wow thats crazy ... must be hard, how old are you

  • no jazzer uses a mp that big.

  • Wayne Bergeron uses a custom MP that is equivalent to a 1.25C. Jazzers do use mouthpieces that big. If you are good, you use a larger MP most of the time.

  • lol no he doesn't.

  • lol yes he does, my friend has the Parke Wayne Bergeron mouthpiece, it is modular with a bronze backbore and a cup size a little smaller than a 1C but larger than a 1.5C. This is what Wayne uses himself. Do a little research.

  • its a medium cup size, i have one lol. it's no where close to a 1c.

  • sorry, I meant to respond to your "no jazzer uses a mouthpiece that big" comment. I find it hard to believe that at the age of 16 you know ever jazz player in the world and the exact equipment they use.

  • i was being sarcastic. my point is that a massive mouth piece like that is not used in jazz very often. I wasn't trying to come off as a know it all, because I'm not, no where close. but in my jazz studies I have never herd, read or seen anyone with a 1c.

  • I have a 1c, but i have big lips.

  • how would you know? your only 16 you moron.

  • The fact that you are insulting me on a forum about saying anything to anyone just is a testimony as to who the real "moron" is. I am simply defending myself against a conflict you presented to me so please do not try to reverse this.

  • wtf. so because I'm 16 I know nothing about mouthpieces?? that doesn't make any sence dude. I've played for 5 years and trumpet playing is my life.

    you're really stupid man lol.

  • that is the wonderful thing about jazz, you can use whatever equipment you like, just as long as it gets you the sound you want.

  • yo man nice job i dont care how old u are u sound good keep it up man later

  • hello

  • um guys i was 15 when I did this I am sixteen now and i improved im going to put two videos up here in a little bit

  • cool! keep up the good work.

  • There are a lot of jazz schools that would take you up in a second, not becuase you are the best highschool trumpet player in the country but because there is obviously a lot of talent to work with in your playing. Dirtysaski is a little kid who does not know what he is talking about. go and audition because the scholarships will be waiting.

  • I just said this wasn't scholarship worthy. You seem to have a big problem with logic, maybe you should read more

  • this kids definatly "scholarship worthy". at 16 years old he's still got another 2 years before uni. as jmm said there's a lot of talent to work with. The kid also has a lot of passion for music... he's put video's on youtube to help him study music in uni.

  • I didn't know he was 15/14 in the video. I thought he was already a university student.

  • How old are you man? have you graduated high school yet? If not I would say that your playing is very good for your age. If anybody says that your playing is not scholarship worthy don't listen them because they don't fuckin know anything.

  • you have a nice sound there man, but if you want a scholarship try adding more dynamically such as when you have phrases that are going upwards put a slight cresendo on them, as well as long tones, put a slight cresendo on them to, and opposite for phrases that are going downward, also a bit better articulation too. trust me you are a better player than I am but these are things that will make music more musical. keep at it and good luck with that scholarship man!

  • be careful comment givers! make sure you are actually worthy of giving people comments. Any one who likes to critique should have their own clips up for other people to see. you don't really sound like you should be saying anything about this guy....

  • That seemed like helpful advice to me ^^

players who may not be as great at playing can still give good advice... After all everyone has ears and most people can hear what sounds right and what sounds wrong and how to improve

  • nice...try to repeat yourself a little less....open up on thirds (with half step scoop) and fourths (root progressions) as opposed to leaning on scales...keep tryin to put it on em big fella!!!love it

  • You sound real good i play the clarinet but i want to play the trumpet tho

  • pretty good i use to play trumpet moved to sax

  • Not to be rude or anything but idk if that is scholarship worthy, its pretty good haha but definately not worthy of a sship.

Also you pinch a lot when you go into a higher register (not good)

  • What the fuck do you know man! I'd like ot hear you play and see what I have to say about your sound. He isn't Freddie but he is a really good young player and there are plenty of schools who would give this kid a scholarship. You are an arrogant asshole and i bet you probably play like shit!

  • I know enough to say this isn't scholarship worthy... If schools give this guy a scholarship than why not give every guy who can improv in the slightest a scholarship?

I have won scholarships so don't even talk shit to me. MJK Festival (2 sships totaling 550) and have been invited to the SMFA provincials and the Highlight concert in the RMF. I was posting helpful advice, obviously something you don't know about

  • correct me if i'm wrong here but aren't you only 16 dirtysaski? and by the way $550 dollars isn't a lot of scholarship money. If you like to talk about amounts i've been awarded over 30,000 dollars in scholarship money to attend a private school because of my playing. I'm sure there are many more kids who have gotten way more than that also.

  • Look for the irony in your own post...

well since you probably can't judging by the fact that you posted it I will point it out for you:

    aren't you only 16 dirtysaski

550 dollars isn't a lot of scholarship money

I am only 16 and I am winning scholarships. I won my scholarships while I was 15. I aged one more year. So, whilst I am only 16 currently, I am winning scholarships.

  • i'm 17

  • lol so you being 17 gives you the right to critisize me/him/anyone too? Do you know what, stop being a hypocrite and get a clue.

  • actually I was just criticizing your attitude that you are so great by showing you that there are plenty of other kids out there that are as good or better. Note that I didn't criticize anybody's PLAYING and if I did by some chance, it was not intentional. Hopefully you will see that nobody as young as you OR I should give advice on playing because neither of us really have enough knowledge about music that it allows to teach others. I am also done arguing.

  • I'm pretty sure you critisized my playing... and even worse when you haven't heard me play.

truthfully, I couldn't care if a three year old critisized me. Anyone with ears can critisize. It is like saying wow that sounded bad. You might not know why if you are an average joe, but you can still hear. Get what I mean?

  • yes I do, but if you don't know why it sounds that way how can you give advice on how to fix it. anyway, i'm done posting on this .

p.s. if you can show me where I criticized your playing I will apologize. And remember when I said that a lot of kids are as good or better wasn't saying that you were bad, I was just pointing out the fact that there are many talented kids out there, you are not the only one.

  • "tons of kids win scholarships at your age... I don't know why you think that means that you are so good. the worst trumpet player in my high school got a 450 dollar scholarship for a fine arts camp. It's really not that hard"

You compare me to the worst player in your school, whom you think is not good judging by your "its really not that hard" comment. So even if you didn't directly say I'm bad thats what that means.

  • I'm sure there are plenty of other kids who win more than I do, but this whole argument is because my credibility is in doubt of whether or not I should be giving advice. The fact that I won ANY scholarships at my age should be a testimony to the fact that I am able to give advice. Perhaps you should go back and use some of that money for an extra english class, you should have been able to identify the point behind it. Who the hell gives people like you scholarships?

  • tons of kids win scholarships at your age... I don't know why you think that means that you are so good. the worst trumpet player in my high school got a 450 dollar scholarship for a fine arts camp. It's really not that hard.

  • If you read back that was a city scholarship. Provincials are actually on the 22nd. Anyone who got accepted to provincials is guaranteed another scholarship and more possibly. I am done arguing though, I never said this meant I was "so good" I said this meant I was good enough to give advice/tell other people what/how to improve. What makes you so special as to tell other people off?

  • oh and since you want to be such an asshole to me I might as well mention I have been pre accepted to university at the age of 16. You can think whatever you want lol, I'll just be the one getting jazz and classical gigs.

    For the player:

Get Arban's technical studies, Clarke's Technical studies for the cornet and trumpet, Iron's lip slurs, Sigmund hering's etudes and record that. Anyone with an ear can improv, but the technicals of the trumpet are what universities look for first.

  • anything i guess. And what universities have you been accepted to because that happens to a lot of people. You are nothing special man and you need to realize that. put up a recording and lets see how you sound. Fucking kids..... so god damn ignorant.... why dont you look that word up before you respond.

  • You are age 22 lol... you can stop your age comparisons since it is at them that you base your whole argument on which is quite weak and pathetic really.

  • Ignorant.... tell me what is wrong with being twenty two my friend. I am not sixty five but I do know enough to tell you that you are a little kid trying to tell kids older than you how to play their instrument. the whole priciple of that concept is arrogant and uncalled for. I can hear through bad recording equiment. I am still waiting for that recording.... Don't be shy. Let hear this 16 year old prodigy.

  • What then is wrong with being 16? what distinguishes you from I good sir? Btw ever played any mozart? he wrote some famous pieces younger than 10... do you think that is wrong too? I have seen kids better than adults, should I not then give him advice and just leave him the way he is?

I never said I was a prodigy, simply that I was better than the average player. BTA players can give advice too...

  • well now we know that he actually 15 in this recording. If you are playing a lot better than that right now I would certainly like to hear it. please let me know when you get some recordings up.

  • You assume kids such as myself know nothing about music (and vocabulary too tbh) and that is where your fall is. I don't have a camera, I would upload myself on the mic and add backgrounds but it is shitty quality to begin with. I don't have a problem with you but you seem to have a problem with me telling a musician to get off his lazy ass and work for his scholarships... life isn't handed to people on a silver platter and served with tea

  • alright dude you are dumb..... grow up and stop making excuses.

  • What by this recording makes you think he is lazy??? you are too funny. Please tell me I want to know.

  • lazy as in idk if he went out and applied for scholarships or just stuck one video of himself on youtube hoping for someone to come a knockin'

  • UofA and UofR. You are saying I am nothing special constantly with never hearing me play, you are a sad loser even trying to talk shit. GG buddy

and for the record I never said he couldn't get into university, I know nothing about him. I said this was not scholarship worthy

  • I never said you were nothing special. I just said you are in no position to tell anybody how to play and that their recordings are not scholarship worthy. The reason for this is simple. You have no fucking clue!!!!! That is not talking shit. Thats just me telling a little shit whats up! you'll learn one day.

  • quote: "You are nothing special man "

you are an arrogant bastard, don't even try it.

I do know that I have seen better players than this get turned down for scholarships... what makes this guy so special, please say?

  • lets call a truce man! I never intended for us to go back and forth for so long. I don't think you suck I just don't like what you said. The guy has a lot of technique (good use of double time) especially for a fifteen your old as he was in the recording. and even though you say he pinches in the upper register he still moves around the horn very well. The first half of the recording is very good but ONLY lacks a bit of emothion.

  • truce it is mate. He does have a lot of technique and potential. I will never deny it. But he needs to work on the pinching. It was good and especially for a 15 year old... you look like you are like 19/20

  • Something I am sure he will figure out when it comes time for him to be auditioning for different colleges. anyways I am done arguing....

  • You show some true talent, but definate room to improve--the sort of improvement that studying music professionally at college could bring you. I'm sure you'll do fine. Oh, and if Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Young are still teaching at Elsik, tell them Mr. Gidley says hello.

  • way to go my friend..lol nice man..

  • great technical skills, not very musical though, and be careful on the higher range stuff, you don't want to pinch, and it kind of sounds like you are...

  • im not a fan of jazz but it sounds alright....oh texas all state..i made it too.

  • young trumpet players are so ridiculously arrogant!

  • Nope not arrogant, just talented

  • If you made the all-state band I'm pretty sure you'll get a scholarship to somewhere haha no matter where you finished

  • dang you suck.

KIDDING. best friend. =] im proud of you!

  • don't listen to Boardndave and Lee they're just jealous lol :p it's me Gomez

  • Yeah... Pretty damn bland. Good lines, but there's no musicality in your playing really.

  • very monotone. Bad vibrato

  • Great playing whats your set up?

  • wooo

    go marcus!

    :]

  • damn dude u r good

  • your good marcus

    its sergio
