  • Happen to know how much the old Fairbanks are worth? We have one and have been trying to find out some information about it but having a hard time..

  • @King91810 Sorry I don't know what it is worth. This one is shown at the Florida Flywheelers...Try (Smokstak.com)

  • @pileofiron As my stepfather said; a thing is worth what a man will pay you for it. It's a stupid question. Put it on sale on line, and you'll find out, "what its worth". You should keep this in mind; there is no "authority" who determines what things are worth; the market determines what things are worth.

  • I love these old Fairbanks engines, they have a sound all their own! With proper care, and maintenance, these will last another 100 years, and longer! Made in America, with virtually indestructible quality.

  • I could sit and listen to this all day.

  • How loud is it exactly?

  • @celesteraez Not that loud, but you can feel it run...

  • @celesteraez As 'pileofiron' said, it's not that loud, but the sound is deeeeeep, and it goes right through to your soul!!!!! Do yourself a favor, and go to one of these shows!! You will never forget the sound!!!!

  • i every get one of these type of engines i think i will turn it in to a power generator if the power ever goes out :)

  • What a strong engine, I love all the Fairbanks Morse 2stroke hot bulbs, they are so well shaped, seem to be build to last for ever. Also they allways somehow do have the charisma of a "working hero".

  • @XELA2T I do believe this is not a hot bulb engine.. I think this is a YA model and it is a true diesel that starts on compression alone... I have another movie called "Air starting the 80 H.P. Fairbanks" it does not have hot bulbs. I agree they are built to last forever and I love the sound.

  • @pileofiron

Yes, thank you, I think you are right considering that this is a true diesel engine.

These engines look like beeing able to be 24h / 7d runners, is it so?

  • @XELA2T Yes, they are made to run 24/7. Only shut down to do regular scheduled maintenance.. Thanks you for your comments...

  • @pileofiron

Thanks for your answer, my next question would have been whether these engines were on duty on ships too, but instead I "google and wiki " Fairbanks Morse, and there I saw their imprerssive history and the whole bunch of their stuff... this is amazing..., and they are still in charge...

So it should not be a big headache to get spareparts or?

    Best regards

  • @XELA2T Thanks for your questions. Yes Fairbanks Morse started in the scale business, got into refrigeration, air conditioners engines both gas and diesel. Power generator (dynamos). Even farm tractors, windmills, cars and several other ventures. We buy small cart wheels from them and 2 years ago had them install weight scales for semi's that haul away our processed metal shavings...

Thanks again for your conversation.. Fred

  • @XELA2T I was mistaken.. This is a Fairbanks "Y" Model "VA".. I have attached a video of the 80 H.P. at Franklin County Fairgrounds. Also another true diesel that is hooked to a D.C. Generator.

  • Nice motor shed. Lemme guess, three gallons to the mile? lol.

  • i thought that the three cylinder versions were rated at 150 hp and the two cylinder's were at 100 hp?

  • I don't know how they rate the H.P. of theses engines. I have some movies of a 2 cylinder diesel that is 80 H.P.

  • I think that one is a 32E14, made in 2-6 cylinder versions. 75 horse per cylinder.

    The four was 300 horse.

  • I love it!!

  • At 0.14 someones phone rings!

    Great engine!
