The point of this video was not to debate the call itself or fixed games, etc. I just wanted to show the call from a different angle cause fox neglected to do so. None of us will ever know what the ref was thinking. I saw
i dont like the call bc it was nothing. if you pay any attention to the gunner position u will notice that its alot more physical than a little "hold". anyway the guy was completely oblivious to where the ball was and by the time he realized it johnny knox was gone. sure it was a hold but the ref either thought about if it would affect the play for 3 seconds or he is disabled and not able to pull his flag and throw it when the "hold" occured
But what you don't see here: the ref threw the flag only after the wide open returner catches the ball on the sideline in front of him, 5 seconds after this supposed holding.
It still shouldnt have been called. Bush was no where near even having a play on the ball, especially since he had no idea where it was and was facing the opposite direction.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest You're not getting what I'm saying. Ok so it was holding then why did the ref call it at the 20 instead of where it actually happened? Why didn't they call the obvious PI or IC against GB earlier in the game? Those are obvious calls that the refs screwed up. You have 1 it's a mistake 2 or more and there's a pattern. Like I also said pick any game you want this weekend and watch it for the exact same thing and see if it gets called. If not then the refs were biased.
@lautz73 so ur saying if the flag is thrown and doesnt land near the spot its because the ref is making it up? watch the video. it shows that its undeniably a hold. ur gonna have to be way more specific than "earlier in the game" so even if they made a bad call earlier thats only one and even according to ur biased ass its still just a mistake. dude u lost just like the bears did. accept it.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest Did you watch the video? If you did then you would see exactly where the "hold" occured, the 35. If the return goes past that spot then the penality is enforced from that spot. The "hold" was enforced from the 20. 15 yds difference. Explain that. You can't because it shouldn't have happened. With the PI no call on Hester earlier in the game shows that the refs had a bias against Chi. I have been a Bears fan since 85 so I have seen lousy teams. The refs gave GB the game.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest Like I said you can't explain why the ref was 15 yds off with the placement of the penality. Yes I still doubt it was a hold because I have seen that happen numerous times in all of the games I have watched over the past 25+ years and it was never called before. You still can't say why the refs didn't call the PI against GB. Combined it shows a bias against Chi for the game. GB can't win tough games w/o the refs help.
@lautz73 15seconds late 15 yards away. Try watching the second hand on a clock then tell me how long that is. too loong. The pack are unable to win on their skills because they don't have any. false starts and holding calls are the preffered method of the refs, but they're not against false P.I. calls.
@thmain1 Who said anything about it being 15 seconds late? I said a few as in 2 or 3. The refs were making calls or no calls in GBs favor all night.. Just another example opf the refs trying to decide who wins and who losses games. It's been happening for years now and GBs gotten the short end of it sometimes as well.
@lautz73 Wow ur comments are really pathetic and ignorant u must be 12. refs have been deciding games for the last few years lmfao...... go watch hockey if u don't like it kid and quit crying about how the packers win games
@L4Dzombiegenocidest With the no call of pass interference or illegal contact against Hester earlier in the game it shows a pattern from the officals as to call the game in GBs favor. The late flag and the wrong spot should tell you all you need to know about that ref and what he wanted to do. He admits to touching him and that he shouldn't have done that. Pay attention to the games next week and see just how many times that same thing gets called when it happens and it will happen.
Thanks for showing, (I'm a long time Packers Fan) but during the game it wasnt shown well at all, and yes it was an incredable return- i doubt the hold effected the play, but doubt it would of won the game for the Bears, ( but if I had money on the the spread I'd still be pissed)
Ticky Tack doesn't begin to describe this. NO HORSE COLLAR and amazing considering the action was completely on the other side of the field the Zebra was able to toss a much delayed flag.......hmmmm. Right or wrong if anyone thinks it's tough to fix a game via tossing a yellow hanky....your're living in the land of elves and fairies. I remember when they said the NBA was the pillar of integrity.....NOT. And don't think for one second dude in that sport WAS THE ONLY CROOKED BASTARD.
I think the reason they called it was that #21 did it to slow down jarret bush (#24) so that he couldnt get down the field so its 100% a hold. Even if jarret bush may have been fooled anyway
Flag thrown 4 sec later and in the wrong spot. The ref knew it was going to for a TD and didn't want it to happen. It would have spoiled the spread. I still say check the bank acct of that ref and see if he came into a good amount of money after that game.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest Then you tell me the reason that the ref would screw up so badly? There was no way that a ref would get it so wrong wihtout intentionally calling it wrong.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest You still didn't tell me how the ref got the spot so wrong and threw the flag so late. Yes I did watch the video and the "hold" (this type of "holding" can be seen in just about every kick or punt in every game) occured at the 35 yet the ref said that it happened at the 20. 15 yds difference and the flag 4 secs late, explain that if you can (which I know you can't because it doesn't make any sense unless he's doing it intentionally).
@lautz73 he didnt know if the hold (which was indeed a hold and everyone knows it) would affect the play. he threw the flag when it he realized it did which explains both the delay and the spot difference. now explain how both the player who the penalty was called on and the ref are wrong please.
@L4Dzombiegenocidest It doesn't matter if it affects the play or not it's supposed to be called. if you knew anything about football you'ld know that. He did know it would affect the play because he saw that everybody was faked out by Hester. that's why he threw it so late and made it at the 20 to back up Chi as much as he could get away with. The NFL should issue Chi an appology for this refs intentional screw up and make the final score 27-24.
As a lifelong Bears fan, I gotta admit, great job pointing out the holding call. That's what holding is, no question. Thanks for posting the vid. We'll get you at Lambeau :)
I agree with the holding penalty but DON'T ever rule out miracle plays to win the game at the end. Have you already forgotten about the Music City Miracle?
@Bloozmann they are talking about football and you attack him personally. Thats crap dude. And im sure you have done extensive research on home schooled intelligence as opposed to public schooling?
im pretty mad about this but even though this still wasnt a hold beacuase he barley put his hand on him and he didnt pullthe bears still wouldnt have lost
Or, maybe on a punt return it just nulifies the return. Knox eventually catches the ball around the 10 yard line. The truth is I don't know. I searched on google for an explanation of the rules but couldn't find one. Regardless of the spot, there is definitly holding on that play.
As for the spot of the foul, I don't pretend to be a rules expert but assuming it is ten yards from the spot of the foul, maybe the ref thought the foul occured at the 20 since that is where the flag ended up. Certainly not a great job done by him but still a lot better than what everyone thought was no foul at all.
I don't know what the ref was thinking so I can't say with any certainty...but, the only explanation I have for why he waited is that he wanted to see how it played out. Maybe he was thinking that it was ticky tack enough so that if it was a fair catch, he wasn't going to throw the flag. When he saw that the result was a touchdown, he had to throw the flag. I think they do this from time to time because they can't always tell right away if the illegal action had any bearing on the play.
problem is that the flag was thrown after knox took off running. so if the holding was to be called on the grab the flag would have been thrown sooner. he knew knox was gone when he threw it. this call held the betting line. the nfl and vegas are in bed!!! i remember a game last year where a polomalu TD was called back by a horrendous call which saved the betting line.
Therefore I don't think the holding call in question is the one that you show in this video. If it was the official didn't apply the rule correctly which is almost just as bad as making a bad call on purpose. officials should know what the hell they are doing and ignorance or negligence is not an excuse
Third why did they place the ball on the ten yard line? The play did not end up as a touchback, it ended as a touchdown, so the ball wasn't set to be on the 20 prior to the penalty.
So ten yards from where? the 20? why? usually in a holding call AFTER the ball is punted, the ball is placed 10 yard from the spot of the foul. However the ball was placed on the 10 yard line and the foul occurred on the 35. explain that one.
the rules don't change because it is a punt. Both start of as a 4 and 4 packers ball. The punt rules don't take affect until after the kicked. The hold you are showing however takes place prior to the kick
Why throw the flag 10 seconds later? A hold of that nature would result in a 1st and ten, packers, since it was not a kickoff. The packer that was fouled upon was an offensive player and an eligible receiver down field until the ball is kicked.
Think of it like this. Let's say the packers went for it. They passed a long pass and it resulted in the defense interception. However the defense held the receiver similar fashion. What happens? first and ten packers
Good job with this man. I lost money on the Bears and was furious (and YES it had a huge consequence on them covering the spread or not). I see the hold now. Yes it is weak, but indeed a hold. As for the flag being late - that is very easy to determine. It was a marginal penalty and the Ref was going to let it go until he realized what was happening and determined that it might have an outcome on the play. They do that all of the time. Thanks again.
@MrSaintlyWon You're welcome. And I agree 100% with everything you said. Not a strong hold, but the ref decided after the result that it hindered the play. IMO, if this ends as a fair catch, the flag doesn't get thrown.
Isn't a horse collar when you grab the back of the neck collar area of the player and pull him to the ground while also falling to the ground? This was definitely not a horse collar foul. This was a ticky tack call that shouldnt have been called at this time in the game. These kind of "holds" happen all the time and are not called on kickoffs. If you call this one, then every "hold" call should be made and they weren't.
i am a bears fan, i hate the packers, it is holding, ya everyone is pissed about it, but the refs call what they see. the game isnt fixed, the refs didnt have it in for the bears, the freakin packers beat us. the refs dont always get it right but they are paid professionals. ya gotta admit though, that was an awesome play, it even faked the camera guy. its along season and i am placing bad juju on aaron rogers. chicago will get revenge. GO BEARS, down with the packers.
@bearswin35 I agree. It really is too bad that it got called back because it is one of the best plays ever. And, now, they probably won't be able to use it again.
@bearswin35 man finally an honest fan!! hey man ur a legit fan when u can admit what u said. After all we all route for our teams and sometimes it just doesnt work out.. Everyone wants a scapegoat. Refs are always a good one to go for.
sorry man. I love the attempt at defending a ref on this one. And I see where your going, but even if that was the call the ref made (Even though he threw the flag like 5 seconds later), its still not a hold. This happens all the time, he let go right away, and its as weak as a hold can come. I see what your seeing, but I can't say this is still a legit call, but a lot better than what it seemed before.
@Kartkid024 No doubt that holding happens on every play. But, I think the refs use their discretion when it might or might not have an impact on the play. I think in this case, the ref wasn't sure so he didn't throw the flag. But he was forced to throw the flag when the result of the play is a touchdown.
Well 2 things then, 1-the flag was thrown when he caught the ball (so maybe it was he knew the TD would happen) 2- The hold never impacted the play since that player eventually just ran past everyone including Hester to try and down the ball on the 1 or what ever.
I saw something on the replay so I posted MY thoughts...you will have to find the ref and ask him what he was thinking
