  • Carolina did win in Chapel Hill later that year, but it wasn't in Carmichael, it was in Woolen Gym. They didn't start playing in Carmichael until the 65-66 season.

  • Proof that Dook players were pieces of shit way back to the 60s. They have always been the team with the least amount of class in the ACC and love to take cheap shots. I hope the Heels lay a huge smackdown on your over-rated, powdered mamma's boy asses.

  • Lol!!! Dook!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahhah!!!!!!!!!! U mean duke???? Lol... When I first read that I thought it rhymed with book!!!! Lolololol

  • HAHAHAHAHAH Dook!!!!! LOL!

  • Dook lol

  • d00k has always been a coven of cheap shot geeks.

  • The good ol days. When men fought like men.

  • i know art heyman he is my friends uncle

  • How did anybody know about these schools before Wal-Mart?

  • probably cause they were successful at least UNC was anyway

  • this sparked the greatest rivalry in sports history. GO HEELS!!!!!

  • truly. somewhat strange considering the the close proximity of the 2 schools to each other

  • at 00:26 seconds i think thats larry brown going postal at midcourt

  • fOR REAL???

  • actually no its not

  • Not a single black guy in this vid.

Oh how the times have changed

  • at :26 seconds at midcourt, that might be larry brown going postal

  • I just wish we could fight like that now. Because I'd loooove to see Copeland, or Hansbrough return the favor to hendersonofabitch!! Go to hell Dook, go to hell.....

  • beat dook.

  • Way to go Larry Brown, whip some dook ass!!

  • Hell yeah Larry Brown, whoop some dookie ass!

  • duke still has those same white players and still plays in that high school gym!

  • dook

  • the protagonists were art heyman, the famous duke nuthead alumni, and hall of fame coach, larry brown...his other famous teamate include if i'm not mistaken, doug moe.

  • my grandpa's in this vid and he hit a dook fan no kidding!!!

  • so what started it? looks like the guys in black were creeping onto the court - so did the defender hit the attacker? then everyone else laid into the puncher and his team?

  • DOOK

  • A dumb private school? What?

  • Who is dook?

  • A dumb private school in Durham North Carolina. Most often misspelled "Duke", dook's lack of a decent basketball player has resulted in their recent poor performance against their rivals 8 miles away, the North Carolina Tar Heels, who won the national championship in 2005. Their only win has come in the splendid Tar Heel point guard, Ty Lawson's, absence.

  • GO UNC

  • at least they knew how to punch back then. i see some of the fights now days, and they punch likes girls. open-handed, slow looping swings will get you nowhere in a fight.

  • Those that say that Carolina won in Carmichael in 1960 are very young or have a poor memory. Carolina was playing it's games in Woollen gymn during the 1960-1961 season. Carmichael did not open until the 1966-1967 season.

  • I need to make a correction in my own post. I was in the new UNC basketball museum last week and one of the exhibits brought to my attention that the first game in Carmichael was at the start of the 1965-1966 basketball season. This does not change the fact that Carolina played it's home game in Woollen gym prior to the 1965-1966 season.

  • my papaw is in this vid and he hit a dook fan

    no kidding

  • lol that footage is ancient

  • they said it was this fight that set off the rivalry. by the way, hrh0313 spelled it the way it should be spelled. besides, this shows who's better in the rivalry: UNC 76 dook 68. Tar Heels, baby. Tar Heels.

  • HAHAHA Thats the way Carolina fans spell Duke! Obviously you're not from basketball country. HAHA

  • Funny that you'd know how long it took before order was restored but you didn't know how to spell Duke.

  • webbey22 obviously is not directly associated with the rivalry, nor does he have a good understanding of it. To any born and bred Heel, our rival is dook

  • OLD SCHOOL lol

  • Awesome..........GO DUKE!!!

  • LOL back at you. Anyone who doesn't go to the Univ of NJ @ Durham knows that the correct rivalry spelling is d-o-o-k

  • LOLi thnk he meant Duke

  • Fighting in suits and ties. LOL!!

  • if you see my Comment below, i noted that dook won this game and UNC won in OT in regular-season ending game in Chapel Hill.

But you're wrong about dook winning two of the three. The third game they played (which was the first time they met that season) was in the Dixie Classic in Raleigh on Dec 31, 1960, and UNC won 76-71. Dook won this fight game at dook on 2/4/61 81-77. UNC won the third game in Carmichael on Feb 25 1961 69-66 in overtime.

  • Carmichael? Carmichael wasn't played in until 1966. Carolina played in Woollen Gymn prior to Carmichael opening.

  • The two teams played each other 3 times in 1961. Duke won it's two home games and Carolina won in overtime in Carmichael, so this has to be one of Duke's wins in Cameron! Thanks Wikipedia! Now how about the GWU Runnin Bulldogs!! haha!

  • Typical 1960s college basketball game:

Two handed chest pass. Two handed chest pass. Breakaway layup. Fistfight. Two handed chest pass.

  • who won: the fight or the game?

    Fight: both players ejected

Game: dook won this one, 81-77

Rematch in Chapel Hill: UNC won 69-66 in OT

Season: UNC won the ACC Regular Season with a 12-2 conference record

  • Who won? lol

  • Go Heels!!!!!!!!!!!!
