If you already like ANDREA BOCELLI check now THE 30 TENORS in my playlist SUPER TENOR ARIAS ( including CLAUDIO SOTELO performing ARIA DEL CIRUJANO as a world première for YOU TUBE ) and tell me which one you prefer.
I have said it before and ill say it again- bocelli is a great singer- but he IS NOT and opera singer. Just because someone sings in italian doesnt mean that its opera.
the last note was amazing never the less, and he is a tenor so its not just because he sings in italian, Eros Ramazzotti sings in italian but no one willever say he is an opera singer, now say wat ever u want, u and the critics have right to ur opinions, however most people desagree with u and that is wat matters
you must be confused- he is not anopera singer and thats not a subject of debate thats a fact. Bocelli is one of my favorite sngers ever. Im sorry to nform you that the majority would dsagree with you. Tenor is a subjectve term as it referes to the range in which you sing- it is used to specfy for a role n an opera so that s where you hear it the most. Celine dion might sing in a soprano range- but she isnt an opera singer.
i know that, dont talk to me as if i dont know opera, i like Andrea's voice when he sings opera but he is by no means my fav opera singer, i like Aragall and Corelli most of all probably and listen to many people that opera ctitics and urself absolutly love but who rnt nearly as famous as Bocelli. Andrea is loved by many and i have to say most people would agree with me because most people dont know opera and dont understand wat makes an opera singer,
Plus many people would only listen to an opera if Bocelli is singing in it, and i used to be one of them, but because of him i learned to love other tenors, then baritons, and Basses, and later sopranos and mezzos so i think he did a lot and is doing a lot for opera
So i dont understand y u say he has never sung in an opera, please informe urself before talking to me, in fact stop talking to me all togheter, the last thing i need is some guy who doesnt know me, talking to me like im some kind of idiot (and please dont criticize my spelling, im french and would use that language, or spanish or even italian if i knew u spoke them)

You dont know anything about opera if you think bocelli does a lot for it. Bocelli does NOT sing in operas. And dont rattle off names you probably just looked up to make it seem like you do. It's not a cut to Bocelli to say he shouldn't be singing opera. It's striking how many people think that putting someone in a recording studio with a 64 channel mixing board makes them an opera singer.
lol this song reminds me of Grand Theft Auto 3. you know where your in a car and you can hear different radio stations, theres one radio station that plays opera music and thats where i head. another song i heard there was Libiamo ne'lieti calici and it was aight
NOOOO WAYY! Hahaha. Dude, I have been looking for that song name for years! (i havent put so much effort in it). Now i just got of work, where i heard La Donna, and i thought this "forum" would be a excelent place to ask; "I wonder if any one know a very famous song, that is like this but more melodical. i heard it on a PC game calles GTA. Please help".... So sick! The world is small sometime! :D Libiamo Rocks!
cant believe you said Andrea Bocelli shouldnt be singing opera! the man is amazing, you cant judge him just because of this performance. sick of people who think they have to be faithfull to pavarotti and him alone
Here, kiddies, is a translation of this song: "Woman is flighty, like a feather in the wind. She changes her voice--and her mind. Always sweet, pretty face, in tears or in laughter, she is always lying."
sorry but he is singing the wrong song and it is playing a different one look at his mouth move I know he is blind and he is good 4 a blind singer that was born blind but htat is un exceptible when he sings a different song then what we are listening to
He is not singing the wrong song, LazyBadger. It's just that -- for whatever reason -- the audio and the visual are a few seconds off. He is, however, singing La Donna e Mobile.
I'm sorry, I hate writing negative reviews, but this is pretty awful. Strained high notes, lack of vocal heft, uncertain pitch, poor phrasing, & a complete lack of the Duke's character. I appreciate that Bocelli is introducing thousands to opera, but it's not really quality opera (sang Manrico without even having the power for a Rodolfo or Cavadarossi!).... I'm sorry for writing such a negative review, but this, IMO, is not very good.
I tottaly agree with vivacallas, he should not be singing opera it's almost the same when Pavarotti tries to sing a popular song. He's sure talanted singer with semiclassic repertoir. I'm realy worried about today's public taste. Watched the guy named Paul singing "nessun dorma" on Britain's talent show.
Bocelli in comparison to him like a Corelli. No voice, no emotions but crowd is ready to tear you apart if you say you don't like him
this was around 1997, about 10 years ago. he was not yet trained that much but you might change your mind once you hear him sing now. he is so overly-criticized!
I like opera, I am not a huge Bocelli fan, but I think he sounds better. I just listened to a bunch of different singers singing this song and I don't care who you snobs think are the best singer "technically" because it all comes down to a difference of opinion. It doesn't matter if a singer is the best technically, if you don't like their voice. To me Bocelli has the most pleasant and diverse voice to listen to. Don't speak on behalf of others, you don't know if only his fans likes his opera.
I like Opera, am a Bocelli fan and don't understand anything of techniques and stuff. However, let me tell you my opinion: no way Bocelly is even close to Pavarotti's skills and talent. Just compare this video to Pavarotti's rendition of the same aria on youtube. No way Bocelli's voice is as diverse, powerful and utterly beautiful as LP's. I think it's pretty evident to most people. Pavarotti is a unique talent, one of those that comes to this world once a century. His singing is just heavenly
Well, not really. Sometimes art is such high quality it becomes absolute beauty. You cannot really say Picasso is less good than Dali or some random Spanish unknown painter: when an artist is incredibly talented it's no longer a matter of opinion. You can say you don't like his works but you cannot say he's inferior to other artists. Pavarotti is a classic of opera. He's like Shakespeare in poetry, Ionesco in theatre or Manzoni in literature. Bocelli, we like it or not, hasn't reached that top.
Yeah, I can say it actually. I am not a sheep, I don't buy the "expert opinion". You can go to school, study art and music your whole life - it doesn't change the fact it's always a matter of opinion. And it's also pointless. If a singer can reach so and so many octaves - it doesn't mean they are necessarily good at singing, have a nice voice, good songs or anything. It just means nothing.
"if a singer can reach so and so many octaves -it doesn't mean they are necessarily good at singing, have a nice voice, good songs or anything": I'm not quite sure you realise you are talking about Luciano Pavarotti. You are talking about somebody that has been often compared to Caruso. Has Bocelli ever been compared to Caruso? I'm sorry, I don't know you and I don't mean to judge you, but you sound compltetely clueless to me.
Actually, Pavarotti has never really been likened to Caruso from a purely vocal standpoint. They have been likened from a historical standpoint, considering that they were both immensely popular, but their voices were completely different.
LOL Spice Girls were popular but have never been likened to any talented performers. Besides, Pavarotti's and Caruso's voices r of course different. So? Do voice similarities matter? P. and C. r often compared because of their immense talent, the power n beauty of their voices n what they gave to opera. They have been 2 of the best opera singers ever in history. If you think the comparison was made from a mere historical standpoint u r so looking down on Pavarotti and so undervalueing his talent
yes, but you cannot say Pavarotti's comparison to Caruso is only due to popularity! Just because Pavaraotti was immensely popular it doesn't mean his talent was not that huge. I mean, sometimes big talents are not hidden and appreciated by a few experts. Pavarotti is a rare case where extraordinary talent goes together with huge international popularity. And by the way, our discussion was about Bocelli in the first place. Can you honestly say Bocelli is more talented than Pavarotti? Come ooon
also, sorry my bad language but what you said: "Pavarotti was one the greatest tenors of the last 50 years, but, before that, I can name many who equal (and surpass) his talents" is big BOLLOCKS. How the hec could you listen to opera performances which are older than 50 years? Where did you get the records from? LOOOOOL ... or are you some kind of immortal ghost, that has been around for thousands of years and has got a fan-fucking-tastic memory? :D
Yes, Caruso is one, and how MANY others who "equal and surpass Pavarotti's talents"? We don't have such a huge collection of pre-50s records, do we? And what is the sound quality of such records? Don't you think you made a bit of an overstatement there?
The singers you listed are all-time classics and, although I don't remember listening to Alessandro Valente, their huge talent and importance in the "opera world" cannot be overlooked. However, two things I don't understand: 1) why Pavarotti should not be part of them (it's still early, by the way, and I'm positive history will put P. in the right place right with them); 2) how could Bocelly be even compared to any of them or Pavarotti. Here we are in the olympus of opera singers... Bocelli??
Personally, I hate Bocelli. I got to this page by accident. On that we agree. However I think that Pavarotti's best work is earlier in his career, before he started clenching his jaw.
did I miss something then? I thought the point you were trying to make is that Bocelli is more talented than Pavarotti and the latter is kind of overestimated. I agree about P., btw, I think he sung too much in his life. I love his 70's and 80's work. Personally, I get a little bored with old records (like from before the 50s). I prefer to listen to modern performances, especially when on DVD so I can also see the acting and talent on stage. I don't mind some Beniamino Gigli at times, though
I did not mean Dali was a crap painter, btw. I just meant Picasso cannot be considered to be inferior to any painters, either really talented and massive ones, like Dali, or unknown and small artists. Again, I do not mean an unknown artist is in fact not talented. Talent doesn't always go together with popularity. Bocelli, for example, is really famous but not such a talented genius, not as much as Pavarotti anyway. It's not only me who says that, but most critics, sholars and experts :)
u c, the problem is when you judge works of art you need 2 ground your theories. U can't just say Michelangelo was crap but you also need 2 say why. Unfortunately, in order to do so u need huge knowledge and expertise. If u think Pavarotti is inferior to Bocelli, u should go more in depth, give details, n show a major knowledge in the field. Otherwise, in my opinion, your comments are just superficial and meaningless. We all wish we didn't need to study hard to properly understand art!
wrong phrasing? are you actually kidding? uncertain pitch? strained high notes? i think you're actaully expecting him to sing like a spintor tenor when hes just a light lyric tenor!
I think he should stick to popera

cant believe you said Andrea Bocelli shouldnt be singing opera! the man is amazing, you cant judge him just because of this performance. sick of people who think they have to be faithfull to pavarotti and him alone

Here, kiddies, is a translation of this song: "Woman is flighty, like a feather in the wind. She changes her voice--and her mind. Always sweet, pretty face, in tears or in laughter, she is always lying."

sorry but he is singing the wrong song and it is playing a different one look at his mouth move I know he is blind and he is good 4 a blind singer that was born blind but htat is un exceptible when he sings a different song then what we are listening to
LazyBadgerHC715 4 years ago

They should've had Pavarotti singing it instead.

Yeesh, can't just sit back relax and enjoy it huh?
Roscieto 4 years ago
I tottaly agree with vivacallas, he should not be singing opera it's almost the same when Pavarotti tries to sing a popular song. He's sure talanted singer with semiclassic repertoir. I'm realy worried about today's public taste. Watched the guy named Paul singing "nessun dorma" on Britain's talent show.
Bocelli in comparison to him like a Corelli. No voice, no emotions but crowd is ready to tear you apart if you say you don't like him
carusohimself 4 years ago
this was around 1997, about 10 years ago. he was not yet trained that much but you might change your mind once you hear him sing now. he is so overly-criticized!
libetta 4 years ago
don't get me wrong, Bocelli is very talanted but in Opera he would be an average tenor.
Who likes Bocelli in Opera-only his fans,
ask any opera fan, he will share this opinion
Pavarotti was also very average in songs but great in opera
carusohimself 3 years ago
I like opera, I am not a huge Bocelli fan, but I think he sounds better. I just listened to a bunch of different singers singing this song and I don't care who you snobs think are the best singer "technically" because it all comes down to a difference of opinion. It doesn't matter if a singer is the best technically, if you don't like their voice. To me Bocelli has the most pleasant and diverse voice to listen to. Don't speak on behalf of others, you don't know if only his fans likes his opera.
Zeetana 3 years ago
I like Opera, am a Bocelli fan and don't understand anything of techniques and stuff. However, let me tell you my opinion: no way Bocelly is even close to Pavarotti's skills and talent. Just compare this video to Pavarotti's rendition of the same aria on youtube. No way Bocelli's voice is as diverse, powerful and utterly beautiful as LP's. I think it's pretty evident to most people. Pavarotti is a unique talent, one of those that comes to this world once a century. His singing is just heavenly
DXP322 3 years ago
And again, it all comes down to difference of opinion. Even if the majority prefer one over the other, doesn't make it a fact or true.
Zeetana 3 years ago
Well, not really. Sometimes art is such high quality it becomes absolute beauty. You cannot really say Picasso is less good than Dali or some random Spanish unknown painter: when an artist is incredibly talented it's no longer a matter of opinion. You can say you don't like his works but you cannot say he's inferior to other artists. Pavarotti is a classic of opera. He's like Shakespeare in poetry, Ionesco in theatre or Manzoni in literature. Bocelli, we like it or not, hasn't reached that top.
DXP322 3 years ago
Yeah, I can say it actually. I am not a sheep, I don't buy the "expert opinion". You can go to school, study art and music your whole life - it doesn't change the fact it's always a matter of opinion. And it's also pointless. If a singer can reach so and so many octaves - it doesn't mean they are necessarily good at singing, have a nice voice, good songs or anything. It just means nothing.
Zeetana 3 years ago
"if a singer can reach so and so many octaves -it doesn't mean they are necessarily good at singing, have a nice voice, good songs or anything": I'm not quite sure you realise you are talking about Luciano Pavarotti. You are talking about somebody that has been often compared to Caruso. Has Bocelli ever been compared to Caruso? I'm sorry, I don't know you and I don't mean to judge you, but you sound compltetely clueless to me.
DXP322 3 years ago
Actually, Pavarotti has never really been likened to Caruso from a purely vocal standpoint. They have been likened from a historical standpoint, considering that they were both immensely popular, but their voices were completely different.
phantom4087 3 years ago
LOL Spice Girls were popular but have never been likened to any talented performers. Besides, Pavarotti's and Caruso's voices r of course different. So? Do voice similarities matter? P. and C. r often compared because of their immense talent, the power n beauty of their voices n what they gave to opera. They have been 2 of the best opera singers ever in history. If you think the comparison was made from a mere historical standpoint u r so looking down on Pavarotti and so undervalueing his talent
DXP322 3 years ago
The reason that popularity matters is because there are few operatic performers who attain popularity.
Pavarotti was one the greatest tenors of the last 50 years, but, before that, I can name many who equal (and surpass) his talents.
phantom4087 3 years ago
yes, but you cannot say Pavarotti's comparison to Caruso is only due to popularity! Come ooon
DXP322 3 years ago
also, sorry my bad language but what you said: "Pavarotti was one the greatest tenors of the last 50 years, but, before that, I can name many who equal (and surpass) his talents" is big BOLLOCKS. How the hec could you listen to opera performances which are older than 50 years? Where did you get the records from? LOOOOOL ... or are you some kind of immortal ghost, that has been around for thousands of years and has got a fan-fucking-tastic memory? :D
DXP322 3 years ago
Caruso recorded from 1902-1920.
phantom4087 3 years ago
Yes, Caruso is one, and how MANY others who "equal and surpass Pavarotti's talents"? We don't have such a huge collection of pre-50s records, do we? And what is the sound quality of such records? Don't you think you made a bit of an overstatement there?
DXP322 3 years ago
Well, there's Beniamino Gigli, Jussi Bjorling, Alessandro Valente, Fritz Wunderlich, Francesco Tamagno (who created Otello in Verdi's Otello), etc.
phantom4087 3 years ago
The singers you listed are all-time classics and, although I don't remember listening to Alessandro Valente, their huge talent and importance in the "opera world" cannot be overlooked. However, two things I don't understand: 1) why Pavarotti should not be part of them (it's still early, by the way, and I'm positive history will put P. in the right place right with them); 2) how could Bocelly be even compared to any of them or Pavarotti. Here we are in the olympus of opera singers... Bocelli??
DXP322 3 years ago
Personally, I hate Bocelli. I got to this page by accident. On that we agree. However I think that Pavarotti's best work is earlier in his career, before he started clenching his jaw.
phantom4087 3 years ago
did I miss something then? I thought the point you were trying to make is that Bocelli is more talented than Pavarotti and the latter is kind of overestimated. I agree about P., btw, I think he sung too much in his life. I love his 70's and 80's work. Personally, I get a little bored with old records (like from before the 50s). I prefer to listen to modern performances, especially when on DVD so I can also see the acting and talent on stage. I don't mind some Beniamino Gigli at times, though
DXP322 3 years ago
I did not mean Dali was a crap painter, btw. I just meant Picasso cannot be considered to be inferior to any painters, either really talented and massive ones, like Dali, or unknown and small artists. Again, I do not mean an unknown artist is in fact not talented. Talent doesn't always go together with popularity. Bocelli, for example, is really famous but not such a talented genius, not as much as Pavarotti anyway. It's not only me who says that, but most critics, sholars and experts :)
DXP322 3 years ago
"experts" are all taught and told what's "correct". Everyone's a critic.
Zeetana 3 years ago
u c, the problem is when you judge works of art you need 2 ground your theories.
DXP322 3 years ago
I hope I was clear and was not misunderstood, btw, as English is not my native language.
DXP322 3 years ago
he was still young here. 10 years ago, watch him right now!
libetta 4 years ago
wrong phrasing? are you actually kidding? uncertain pitch? strained high notes? i think you're actaully expecting him to sing like a spintor tenor when hes just a light lyric tenor!
luixander19 4 years ago
