@brainboob Their occupations are irrelevant. The point I was making with those quotes I posted was that non-religious and anti-religious are completely different things. One can be a non adherent of a particular perspective and still defend it, such as pro-life Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor taking a pro-choice position on abortion.
And since when did anyone have a "responsibility" to defend a label they adhere to, lest their authenticity be called into question?

@TurboDally Well, I'm really happy for you, but that's entirely irrelevant to my point, which is that one's lack of religious belief does not automatically translate to hostility towards religion, and the authenticity of one's atheism should not be the subject of suspicion because they wish that they could be a believer.

@techservant Cold heart? I displayed Fox's willingness to use an "atheist" to demonstrate how social conservatism should be accepted by all even though it makes no sense. It works on "open minded" people like you apparently. Being a social conservative is completely antithetical to being an atheist. Hell you thought she was a liberal, and with all you're open mindedness you assumed most atheists are closed minded? Clearly I am speaking to the master in open mindedness right?

@brpowerful I was a bit harsh by judging your heart. I don't like it when people do that to me, so I'll back off a bit and rephrase. What I mean is...you seem to be able to read her mind and are telling us all here that what she says is all a lie and with an impressive clairvoyant gift you can see her real motivations.
I think when you do that, you go around judging based everyone based on feelings. In my exp. people who do that all the time are pretty cold hearted. You might be different.

@techservant Fair enough. However I am not claiming to read her mind. When a person is an atheist they really CAN NOT be a social conservative, think about it. Plus look at the way she presents herself as an atheist in interviews. Sean Hannity once said to her " you're an atheist; how can you claim to know that there isn't a god?" she of course dodged the question. More importantly she didn't inform Sean that Athiests do not claim to KNOW there's no God. The position is rarely nostic.

Nonsense. I hear this tripe from atheists all the time. Even when I was an atheist, I understood this to be a cope out on the part of atheists who were incapable of defending their view. When you assert that "There is no God," you are making a claim to KNOW. Both theism and atheism make claims to knowledge. Agnosticism makes no claim.

@bossdrive525 Do you consider Richard Dawkins an atheist? in his book the god delusion he says that on a scale of 1 to 7 regarding certainty he says that he would be a 6. Also you pulled the clique of "i used to be an atheist" which means you were probably never an atheist but you decided to use that as a prosthetic for not being able to defend you beliefs. And no agnostic is not a position it is an adejective to describe the level of certainty regarding a theism or atheism. read a book.

@bossdrive525 BTW you said you hear atheists say they don't claim to know there is a god. well my dear boy if all these atheists are saying that they don't know that there isn't a god then either they are not atheists or you don't know the definition of atheism. Also if I am 90% there is not a god and another person is 90% certain that there is a god are we both agnostic? The answer to that riddle is NO. Atheism and Theism CAN be knowledge claims but that is if they take the nostic approach.

@techservant When she goes on Bill Maher her fake atheism is like a gigantic elephant in the room. When atheists go on Bill's show, he at some point will mention their beliefs. I am not really basing this on feeling. I have alot more examples of discrepancies in what she says on TV that makes her "atheism" seems even less credible if you would like me to continue. There is a reason that the highest rated comments on all her videos mention her fake atheism, just like the top comments on this vid.

This idiot claims to be an atheist but she uses phrases such as 'I believe we came from nothing' and 'I'm not angry at god'. These are not things a real atheist would say she's just out to make a buck. Her next book will be called 'How I found God'. Or something along those lines.

@TheSturdyWall it's not that she's stupid, although she is, it's that the language she uses suggests that she doesn't really believe there is no God. Saying everything came from nothing is what religious people say atheist say but few do. And of course no atheist is angry at God because none believe he exists.

I think the point she is trying to make is that atheists, such as Hitchens, seem to have a personal, and ignorant, vendetta against religion. At least it seems that way to me... Further more, she is saying she has an OPEN MIND about religion. Meaning if she is provided with the proper argument, she will convert. Keeping a closed mind about religion and God makes you just as ignorant and closed minded as theists.

@TheSturdyWall Ok, after watching other interviews of her it appears to me that she is really a theist. I think that she is probably doing it to make money and try and undermine atheism. These are my opinions and I admit I could be wrong. It seems very odd an atheist has written a book about how losing religion is a bad thing. If a good enough argument was made for any religion with evidence backing it up then atheists would convert but no religion ever has made such an argument..

How can anyone respect a woman who writes a book that consists of nothing more than red meat for the carnivores on the religious right. Her book is a bunch of made up bullshit meant to inflame the tempers of conservative christians which is a good way to make money these days apparently. I hear Glann Beck and Bill O'Reilly did very well with their books. I suppose S.E. Cupp heard the same and decided to follow suit.
