  • I saw them place this during the R30 tour! It was awesome! They are so good live!

  • it would have been awesome to see that live, though if I have one regret, I really preferred the sounds of the OB-X and Minimoog. Something’s kinda missing in this. The sound does not have enough attack for the verses, and I feel something is missing about the solos too, can’t really explain what.

  • Wow! Sensational performance.

  • if i could listen to this song for the rest of my life, on repeat, 24 hours a day I'd be a VERY happy man.

  • Rush is living my dream.

  • 1:51

  • Still a brilliant track from seminal album,( i dont know what that means but people always say it!!!), ha.,, Rush have a massive following and we all like different eras but i love the use of the keyboards on their 80s albims, Signals , Presto, Perm waves, grace etc ...

  • @royseahawks SO SO TRUE

  • It's just so effortless with Rush. I mean they do it so well, none of them are sweating!

  • Rock and roll is not a joke. But that doesnt mean the greats, take themselves too seriously.

  • ive never seen R30. this is my introduction to it. I've attended american concerts of theirs. cant wait for the new album in 2012.

  • they dont have to smile, because they are seriously great.

  • RUSH is under appreciated, not underrated.

  • Show stopper for me. Probably their tightest and best song ever.

Some ya-hoo once tried suggesting they drop this epic single from their setlist to make room for some other newer tracks this last tour. I about shit my pants at that suggestion. Gimme a break. The lyric alone is so true and forward thinking.

  • this song always has and always will give me goosebumps.

  • 3 of the best musicians ever put together!!!!!

  • alex's guitar sounds incredible! how does he get it to sound like that? lookin at his rig he is going through like a million things!

  • dude that got their fans ,and they sold alot of records,i wouldnt call them underated personally

  • Greatest rock band ever?? Quite possibly!

  • Neil Peart never smiles lol.

  • @Necrocide187

He doesn't have to, his job is to make you smile.

  • 4:36 Geddy in all his insane bassist glory, screw YYZ, the bass part during the guitar solo of Subdivisions is what made me want to play bass.

  • Greatest thing about this song and Rush for that matter is it's timeless. Does Peart ever smile? One of these days I'll find a shot of that. Thanks for the upload.

  • @atsstockburn I believe the only time I've seen Neil smile (behind the kit) is when Alex goes off on one of his classic "rants." Hell, he never even smiled when he was on David Letterman's drum solo week. I do believe Freddie Grubber made him smile though...!!

  • GOD DAMMIT I LOVE RUSH!!!!!

  • Tom Hanks, Drums and Percussion.

  • What the hell do Rush sing about?

  • @FirebrandNIRE This song is really obvious. Not sure if trolling, or...

  • @FirebrandNIRE This song is about people like you....

  • @MbdslEst1964

    Meaning?

  • The Rock N' Roll Hall of fame is a joke. Rush isn't in there, BUT MADONNA IS?!? ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME?!?!?!?!?

  • @ThatKrookedVulture neither is Iron Maiden

  • @ThatKrookedVulture WHAT!? MADONNA!? SHE'S NOT EVEN IN THE SAME GENRE (i dont think)

  • @MrNerd314159 I know man!

  • @ThatKrookedVulture Hell, Abba is in there now. I hope to God they don't get in because I'm scared shitless that they may be inducted with the likes of Bananarama or the Go-Go's. While there are some worthy inductees, I hope one day the clueless dipshits who do the voting realize they've had their collective heads up their asses for far too long...

  • @mystikrhythms61 Rush ought to have their own fucking wing at the Hall of Fame, and they best be inducted in a class which only includes them!!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Indeed. I always thought "Big Money" would be a good song for them to play during their induction. A nice little dose of sarcasm (in true Rush style) directed at all the critics who base their selections on mainstream popularity. Big Money got no soul...

  • @mystikrhythms61 Anothe great song about how screwed up the music industry became is "52nd St" by Jack Bruce, from his Shadows in the Air CD. Check it out sometime, great lyrics!!!

  • And they still aren't in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame....

  • hey, rush invented the 3 person powerhouse, before the police, and here it shows back in the '80s.

  • 0:44.....they repair in the face that appears in the video of the left side in the auditorium.....this in ecstasy state....rush only has the capacity to leave people thus.

  • Perfect

  • They FUCKIN" ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GEDDY LEE SUPER-HUMAN

  • three words:

    fuuuuh

    king

    KILLER

  • Have any of you ever seen Neil Peart smile or laugh? Serious question. I think he has the same stoic expression on his face in every video.

  • @ladistar Actually I have, sometimes he and Alex will goof around on stage a bit. Look at some of the clips on here where Alex goes into a strange rant. you'll see Neil crack a smile.

  • @ladistar Rush - La Villa Strangiato Rant 10-15-02

  • @ladistar he's concentrated on his flawless performances......damn perfectionist! :D

  • that is SO fantastic

  • 5:04 That's what SHE said!

  • Wow... these guys can put on a damn show.

  • these band is the living proof that music critics are a bunch of deaf wankers.

  • love umm whoop!!!!

  • one person was RUSHing to get to the like button and missed.

  • Do the Germans even know what a subdivision is???

  • @muzzmatrix sub, is latin

    division is latin too

  • @muzzmatrix dont` even have to check. You are american, aren`t you?

  • This video would be so much better without the Rush Limbaugh ads at the bottom :(

  • @JustinC721 so tragic, so ironic

  • @JustinC721 Rush Limbaugh is another Rush that rules.

  • @swsb40 I'd argue against that right now, but Rush is playing.

  • be cool or be cast out

  • @kess721 Maybe critically under-rated, but these guys are loved by millions around the world, one of the most successful bands of all time, and they are rich as fuck. I guarantee you these guys don't give a shit what critics say. haha.

  • Only a damn Obama voter would 'dislike' this song/vid

  • R.I.P. Mark Dailey

  • 4:36 - best part of the video

  • Look at that drum set!

  • R30 is the best DVD they released...it's a classic no doubt!

  • Geddy using his full rig here...drier AND snack machine! What a sound!

  • @1968mjh Yeah I wonder what tuning they use on the dryers? I leave "Wrinkle Shield" on with mine but I don't sound that good... maybe I need to turn off "Delicates?"

  • perfection

  • In any case, the TENOR of the lyrics IMHO has changed (for the better) since Mr. Peart's tragedies...

  • Sounds like you've all made a point that they're all involved in the music. That's what makes them a band. Peace and let's have some more RUSH!!!

  • Neil Peart is the Shakespere of ours and futures time without a doubt his words are deep inspiring and just plain KICKS ASS plus the best drummer of all times past present and future long live RUSH

  • good sound quality. thanks

  • epic beginning... love them and this song as well

  • This is my favorite RUSH tune, so I thank you for the Christmas present of posting it on YT!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • Neil is their main songwriter -- aside from being one hell of a drummer!

  • ...Lyric writer more specifically. Geddy was the primary songwriter until the 00s when Alex started writing more.

  • Lyricist or lyrics writer or songwriter -- same thing: A person who writes the words for song, and since 1975 the main songwriter has been Neil Peart, despite who's been writing more lately. Look it up -- it's Neil ... it's everywhere.

  • "Lyricist or lyrics writer or songwriter -- same thing"

No, not the same thing. Lyrics without music is just poetry... Generally speaking, in Rush, Alex and Geddy have historically written the music while Neil hangs back at the house smoking cigarettes writing words. Geddy being more of the actual "songwriter" taking Neil's words and altering them and fitting them to the music written for himself to sing...

  • Neil says he took on the role of writing lyrics when he first joined Rush, "because neither Alex nor Geddy were very interested in doing it" and "it seemed to me that it would be fun."

Neil also often draws upon his vast literary knowledge in his lyrics, and has included references to the works of Ayn Rand, J.R.R. Tolkien, T.S. Eliot, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Samuel Coleridge, Shakespeare, the Bible, Greek mythology, and other great works.

  • "...since 1975 the main songwriter has been Neil Peart, despite who's been writing more lately..."

Right, exactly my point. This is precisely why I was clarifying your answer. Obviously if somebody knows enough to mention the writing process of Rush wouldn't it then be redundant to point out the "point" that they are trying to correct you on? Jeesh! ;)

    Anyway, Cheers!

  • @TheMilford ok look both of you.. there is a difference between your definitions of song writer. Let me define for you, Songwriter is Music with notes. Lyricist, well...lyrics. Neil Peart writes LYRICS along with Geddy writing a few amount (very few amount). Neither Geddy or Alex enjoy lyric writing, so Peart does it while (Typicly) Geddy and Alex work on songs- Note Wise. Then add Neil's lyrics

  • ...isn't that what I just said? DOH! Hehe...

Thanks for posting the great vid... and thanks for refereeing. ;)

  • awsome songggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • @haimperets not enough g's ;)
