To all of you who say this is a touhou ripoff, you are fools. I being a touhou fan can without a doubt say that this game is a welcome addition to the genre but is no more a touhou ripoff than it is a shikigami no shiro ripoff.

Also this game is WAY easier than touhou. By far.

@masterofall66 This game crushes Touhou in difficulty when it comes to bullet patterns. There's a reason so many people do no-death/no-bomb runs in most touhou games, they're easy compared to most shmups.

If you really to compare that Hitogata to Touhou, you'll find out that they are totally differents. Touhou is mostly about slow bullets making beautiful patterns, while Hitogata has mostly fast bullets. While Touhou is about Japanese mythology, Gundemonium is about underground organisations with german names, and doll with tea names.

TL;DR: saying Hitogata and Touhou are the same is like saying that Team Fortress 2 is like Modern Warfare 2. It's retarded, and you'll be looked down if you do it.

@Rayquaza895 Technically, if you would claim that Hitogata Happa is a "ripoff", I'd give a lot more credit to the storylines of Xenosaga and Suikoden and the gameplay features of Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. The only things really reminiscent of Touhou are the gorgeous bullet patterns and the fact that you play as flying characters (which was done by Parodius, Cho Aniki, and Ordyne ages ago).

I love Touhou, but this is a whole other type of shmup, though equally beautiful and frustrating.

DOJ was first time cleared 9.5 months after release of the game by a Japanese superplayer. He had practised pretty whole time.

It was released 9 years ago, and are only 5-7 people who can clear both loops.

That, and the fandom tends to be so rabid and haughty about it that they don't even want to try anything that isn't Touhou related. They accept no alternatives, and for them, every shmup is a ripoff of their beloved Touhou. With time, you grow fed up of that.

I'm myself a touhou player, and, while I'm not the best player around, I still like to try other shmup, and I never made the mistake to consider all other shmup as touhou rip-off. I recently acquired the Gundemonium collection, and I never though, even once "that's ripped from touhou". Just too many differences, in art style, music, and even gameplay. And this is why I suck at Hitogata.

Also, now that I have the game, I can say that many shoot'em'ups are harder than this game. I just cleared Doomsday ( without TLB ) quite easily. Game at the time was 10 hours.

Then again, TLB is very major point and Doomsday clear with TLB will be challenging.

@MasterOfBastards Firstly: the player is from Taiwan, not Japan. Secondly: just because you can't beat it doesn't mean the entirety of the USA can't beat it. The proof that Doomsday is possible is right in this video. You just need to practice a lot and have determination. And the enemies don't cheat, they just have large danmaku patterns. As you can see there are more than enough gaps to dodge the bullets, and when there are not you just use invincibility attacks/bombs and your remaining lives.
